View Full Version : A Few
Crawler 04-01-2009, 08:36 PM New to the Forums... been reading like hell on em these past few days...
So here it goes.. im about to purchase an RX-8... now I have 2 choices..
a 2007 AT or a 2006 ST.
First question...
Have these cars have had any problems with the AT Trans?
I dont race.. i know its has less HP, St is better blah blah etc etc... but I've had some people
tell me that the rx-8's AT trans could give me problems in the future...
any thing ya can say about this?
2nd-
The 2006 one (my favorite atm) has only 13,000 miles on it...
I find it a bit odd.. and I noticed the vendor a bit... hm... twitchy about the car...
I did test drive it and ohh man it was a dream... my question...
You guys ever heard anything on people messing with the millage on rx-8's?
Like I said.. it has only 13,000 miles on it and I find it very odd...
speacially here in Puerto Rico where people tend to.. umm.. kill cars.. hehe
Thank you.
Transam kid 01 04-01-2009, 09:09 PM Check car fax or any other records (repair history), and see if the mileage corresponds.
PSTNLSS 04-01-2009, 10:54 PM Do what Transam said to
shazy 04-01-2009, 10:58 PM ST? Nvm standard Transmission.... Anyway use carfax and go to the dealer to see if the car needs any updates and stuff.
The 06/\ At's are much better than the 04 versions as the newer ones have a 6 speed transmission.
Crawler 04-02-2009, 12:27 AM Carfax worked like a charm. thx guys...
turns out this car was a lease vehicle...
and the millage was correct.
Tomorow im going to see it with a friend who is a rotary engine mecanic...
the guy has been talking to be about "wankel" since we where kids.. and I was always
like WTF???
he has totalled 3 RX-7 Turbo II's cause he's a speed demon... hehe
so.. if he tells me to buy... I will
and will post some pics here also :)
again.
thanx
CarAndDriver 04-02-2009, 07:23 PM No AT.
shazy 04-02-2009, 07:27 PM Seriously just try them both out, see what you prefer... some like autos, because they mostly cruise around, and many like Manuals because sports cars are made to be manual :)

i dunno if it's odd. my 07 has 14k on it. i drive a pretty good bit. maybe it's a second car.
but get it checked out to make sure the odometer is accurate. and go with the manual transmission. more power.
chancejat 04-02-2009, 09:09 PM get the st.....you will be disappointed with the AT....
rx-7ames 04-05-2009, 12:13 AM My '06 has 8k miles, and definitely go with the standard tranny. You couldn't give me an automatic transmission 8.
shallow whits 04-05-2009, 12:52 AM wow my 08 has 11,000
Razz1 04-05-2009, 01:20 AM Crap... i haven't hit 30k yet in my 2004. :beer05:
shazy 04-05-2009, 01:22 AM My 2004 has 26k :)
jones75254 04-05-2009, 01:34 AM GET THE MANUAL, period. No explanation needed just do it. End of thread:)
I think i got yall beat , my 04 had 15k miles. Are you buying the auto because you cant find a good manual trans? Or maybe you dont know how to drive yet?
Tamas 04-05-2009, 02:02 AM ^^ not all... mine is also a '04 (received in November 2003) and as of now, it has 15,218 miles :)
^^ omfg DRIVE THAT THING LOL.
Tamas 04-05-2009, 02:04 AM I'd have to change jobs and not be traveling all the damn time for that...
jangle 04-06-2009, 09:08 AM i have an 04 auto...68,000 miles...no problems with the tranny thus far
everybody has opinions...bottom line is the get what you want...i got the auto because my drive to work is always bumper to bumper...plus i have the auto-stick feature to play when i want to
