Smoker 03-19-2003, 10:46 AM I have seen photos of the Side Blinker just beside front wheel having a yellow cover and some having a clear cover.
Anyone know which version our production model will be getting ?
pmacwill 03-19-2003, 10:58 AM orange us-spec, clear everywhere else
Smoker 03-19-2003, 11:04 AM Thanks Mac
93RedX7 03-19-2003, 04:52 PM Well, I guess I'll be getting my clears from everywhere else then.
RX-Nut 04-20-2003, 06:48 PM if you find where you can get the clears from, please post here... I'd like to get me some of those too..... when I have my 8 of course.. heehee :D
wakeech 04-21-2003, 12:51 AM uh, Canada??? ...guessin' 'cause we basically get Euro-spec 8's... right??
pmacwill 07-08-2003, 08:31 PM So has anyone in the US (and I guess canada now too) found a source for clear side indicators? I'd really like to get mine as soon as possible. Just wondering if anyone has put any research into it...

Efini 8 07-15-2003, 03:35 PM I'll pass on those if you are selling for $200! crap they are just clear corners not even headlights... usually clear corners go for $30....

You're new to the RX scene aren't you? These aren't honda parts.
Heck, those are OEM replacements, what do you expect? If you have a Mazdaspeed membership you can probably get them cheaper, that is if they have these.
Clear corners for my FC cost $80, yes I know its outragous, I paid $20 for my old prelude ones, but thats the way it is, till someone else makes an alternative.
brothervoodoo 07-15-2003, 03:42 PM For $200 bucks I'll pass too. I will bet somebody on here will pay for them..... Why no credit card??

ELX13 07-15-2003, 06:40 PM i gotta have my clears one way or another...
but, i wasn't expecting to pay that much more than i did for my avenger ones (about $50).
i'll wait and see if someone else offers them cheaper in a month or so. $120 just sounds very steep to me.
TreknMazda 07-15-2003, 07:24 PM Clear Side Markers ................ $200

pmacwill 07-15-2003, 10:24 PM anyone that has already received their cars know what the bulb number on the side indicators is? does it say in the manual?
Trekn - anyway you can check it out at the tech session tomorrow if nobody answers before then? I don't think I'm going to be able to make it :(

I could probably go for them at that price. I'm hoping we'll be able to get them for less before too long. Do you think the price will come down once Australia starts receiving their cars? (They're getting the clear side markers, right?)
tpryor 07-16-2003, 12:24 PM I'm in at either $100 or $120. Please let us know if you get enough to actually order these (and timeframes, etc.)

RX-8 Zoomster 07-16-2003, 10:19 PM I'd be in for $120, if we can 30+ buyers.
I assume you need to get the yellow bulb replacements since you are going with the clear marker, correct?
Efini 8 07-18-2003, 02:24 PM that is freaking ridiculous.... $120 for clear corners!!! I work for an import performance shop and thats a huge ass price. Usually at most they are $50.

Do you have them for the RX-8? If so, THEN provide us a link and we'll all buy them from YOU. Sounds simple enough.
Rotary Extreme 07-19-2003, 04:21 AM Hello guys, we just picked up our Project RX-8 tonight and we put on the clear sidemarkers right away. The installation is very simple. All you need is a philips screw driver and a socket ratchet.
1. Use the philip screw driver to take off the pop-in plastic rivets. You can only need to take the top two off.
http://www.rotaryextreme.com/projectrx8/rx8-9.JPG
2. You can see the 8mm head bolt that secures the sidemarker
http://www.rotaryextreme.com/projectrx8/rx8-8.JPG
http://www.rotaryextreme.com/projectrx8/rx8-10.JPG
3. Take off the bolt and slide the sidemarker backward
4. Unscrew the light bolt socket
5. Screw the light bolt socket into the clear sidemarker and put it back the reverse way.
The reflector pattern inside the clear sidemarker is different from the stock one. It looks a lot better.
http://www.rotaryextreme.com/projectrx8/rx8-11.JPG
http://www.rotaryextreme.com/projectrx8/rx8-18.JPG
If you trade in your stock ones, I will give you $20 off, as long as your stock ones are in brand new condition.
Chuck Huang
Rotary Extreme 07-19-2003, 04:27 AM I know in some States, it's not legal to have other color of lights than orange so you might have to get the tinted orange bulbs to replace the stock one.
Check with your local authority to see if this is necessary. Ask a police office and he might know since he is the one that gives ticket for that.

i'm in although i paid about the same for my 3000GT ones and those were damn near impossible to find and also a lot more plastic involved...
but my X-8 is black and it would be a crime to drive with the orange ones...
ELX13 07-21-2003, 04:12 PM i guess i'm in too...at $120 to boot! dammit!
i'm gonna keep my orange lenses just in case i sell the 8 at some point and the buyer wants them. (why that would be the case...i have no idea.)
how many so far extreme?
mantisflie 07-22-2003, 01:10 PM Well guys... based on your posts, we have 11 who have expressed interest if we can get them for $100 - $120. Perhaps the moderators can put up a sign up sheet or something. Here's a list of those interested so far. (By the way, I am getting this list from the previous posts. If your name is on here, it's just becasue you expressed interest. I'm not claiming that you are 100% agreed. I am sure you can find an orange one at your local autoparts store. I will find the exact part number for you guys ASAP.
I can't post any advertising/commercial info on the forum at this time. I am sure everything will work out very soon.

i just want to make sure, these arent OEM clears right? u had these made, correct?
Rotary Extreme 07-25-2003, 06:12 PM They are made by the same company Koito in Japan that makes the US spec stock ones.
Chuck Huang
RX-Nut 07-25-2003, 06:16 PM So what are the orange bulbs and where could we find them..
Is the group buy any cheaper than doing the $120 and sending in the stocks for $20 back?
Rotary Extreme 07-25-2003, 06:24 PM Here is the picture of the bulb:
http://www.rotaryextreme.com/projectrx8/bulb.jpg
You can find the orange one from your local autoparts store.
$120 is the cheapest it will go and if you trade in yours, you get the $20 back so it's $100 which is already 50% off list price. Pretty good deal if you ask me. I am trying to make this as cheap for you guys as possible.
Chuck
RX-Nut 07-25-2003, 06:28 PM Cool.. Do you know the part number or equivalent of the bulb for orange?
I'm game.. do we just go to your site and order via Paypal?
Rotary Extreme 07-25-2003, 06:32 PM I am sorry. I was busy for the whole week so I haven't got time to check on the exact part number for the bulb. I will do that today.
Just go to the website and you will see all the info.

RXhusker 07-25-2003, 09:03 PM I remember an earlier post for a silver bulb that flashed amber -- perfect for the clear side markers -- I think the website was:
http://www.stealthauto.com
The Fear Factor 8 guy posted this a while back.
frogzapper 07-26-2003, 12:23 AM So...how and when are we going to do the group buy?
MaRX8 07-26-2003, 12:53 AM I'm interested in the clears also...
PM me if you have the ability to supply at a fare price.
RX-Nut 07-26-2003, 01:11 AM He's already said the lowest he will go is $120. Then if you send in your orange stock, he will give you $20 back. Apparently he's marked them down as low as he possibly can.
The way I see it is if you dont wanna pay $120 now, you can wait for others brands to come out that may be cheaper. He did say however, these clears were made by the same company that makes the stock orange. FWIW.
Sorry if I offended, just repeating what he said...
brothervoodoo 07-26-2003, 02:09 AM Hello Chuck Huang,
It seems we already have a sizeable group, I would recommend we do it now before others lose interest. As time goes by you may gain some and then lose some.
So it seems the deal is $120 and if we return "unmarked - like new" yellows markers, we get a $20 rebate back.
So, how do you want us to do this? Do we go to your website and indicate we are from rx8forum.com?
Let us know the process to order, thanks.

Chuck, I see the web page now, thanks.
One question, it seems we are required to submit a certain amount of non-refundable money without really knowing what the final price "will be". It should be an easy thing to post how many orders you have received thus far. At least, this way we will now the most we will pay at the time of submittal with the possibility that the price will go down as additional orders are submitted. I hope you take my suggestion, I don't think I would order without having an idea of what I might pay..
Rotary Extreme 07-26-2003, 05:01 PM Once your put down a deposit, your name will be posted on that group buy page. Just first name with last name initial for privacy purpose. If you want your full name or your rx8forum screen name to be posted on there, I will do so as well.
So you know so far I have ZERO people putting down the deposit.
If you are new to rotary, you probalby don't know about my company. Some of you might be worried but you can go to either www.rx7club.com or www.nopistons.com and do a search on Rotary Extreme. You will find out I have been hosting many successful group buys and people are happy with my product quality and service. Thank you.

Elara 07-26-2003, 08:53 PM Guys, could you please take this discussion to PMs? If you want to buy the clear indicators, that's great, but this discussion is really pushing the advertising boundaries. Please don't force me to close it. I've left it open as long as I could, but it's getting a little much now. I should have closed it to begin with, but I didn't notice as soon as I should have so I tried to give it a chance to die off, which it hasn't. And don't send me PMs complaining about this, as I am just following forum rules.
Rotary Extreme 07-26-2003, 09:32 PM I have permission from Jason (owner of this forum). You can PM him to confirm. Thank you.
For those of you who is interested, please just go to my website or email me regarding this. Elara is just doing her job but I guess there is some miscommunication going on.

stangkilla 08-05-2003, 01:21 PM Just picked up my black RX-8 last week and Im already on the prowl for mods. 1 of which is clear side marker lenses. I saw some on http://www.rotaryextreme.com/rx8index.html
for the astronomical price of $200 for the pair. Anybody know where I can pick a pair up for a reasonable price?
In addition, Im looking for an exhaust & headers for future purchasing. Any suggestions?

You could try stealth auto (http://www.stealthauto.com/). You can also give the bulbs a light coat of spray paint. I'm not sure exactly how to do this, but have heard about it in a few forums.
stangkilla 08-05-2003, 02:39 PM Thanks for the link. $200 was just out of line.
On a similar note...
Anyone know what size bulbs are in the high beam housing and the other frosted light housing closest to the mazda emblem. Not sure how to describe this one. I cant seem to find the size anywhere.
I wanted to swap them out for some bright white bulbs so that when all the headlights are lit they look more uniform. The yellowish hallogens are lame next to the HIDs
ELX13 08-05-2003, 02:50 PM the chronology:
- they quote $200 per set
- they offer a group buy rate as low as $120/set depending on number of orders
- competitor offers sets for ~$85
- competitor receives orders for his first 20 sets yesterday. (with many more people showing interest)
- "original" retailer offers them for $55-70 (depending on number ordered) today
honest mistake or capitalism at work? whatever.
the consolation being that those of us who bought from "the competitor" will have our markers a few days from now whereas everyone else will be waiting for a bit.
*by the way, this is by no means a knock on rotary extreme. i don't know them and i'll most likely be ordering stuff from them in the future. i'm merely pointing out the chronology for those that don't know the history on this forum. after all...i was the first to start a thread (http://www.rx8forum.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2884) about them. ;)
one more edit: u can expect this thread to be closed soon as the mods have already closed a few related to this topic that spun out of control into the abyss of self-promotion (read: advertising). ain't that right elara? ;)

Hey bubba, chill a bit. Look at the time of his post and look at the time of mine. All of 20 minutes. So I assumed he saw the price at 200, they noticed they put the wrong price up and changed it to the correct one, then when I stopped by to look at them saw the new price and though I'd let him know. I had until this point never heard nor commented on any thread dealing with this item.

Why is that? We have one board member that paid full price ($200) and has had his for the last couple weeks. Others that have pre-ordered from jt-imports tentatively could have there's in a couple weeks as it sounds JT managed to get a few pair before the Japanese holidays. Anyway, we will find out soon enough.
PlanMan 08-05-2003, 03:54 PM I just received a $65 refund from Rotaryextreme.com. He stated that his Japanese supplier had given him a wrong price on the clear sidemarkers. The group buy price is $55 and the retail price is $70. I went ahead and purchased them at $70 to get them now. By the way, for the last week, I was the only deposit at $120 on his site.

I'm glad that you got a reasonable price. The reason you where the only one that pre-ordered through RotaryExtreme was due to their over the top pricing and their quote of "your non-refundable deposited of $120", which eluded to the possibility of paying more if insufficient pre-orders where generated. Anyway, they changed their tune quick and now have more realistic pricing.
Rotary Extreme 08-07-2003, 05:42 AM For those of you who are bashing me here, I already explained it many times that it was my Japanese contact's mistake. I ordered those sidemarkers with the Mazdaspeed RX-8 bodykits and I was told they were Mazdaspeed parts. I don't live in Japan so I have no way of knowing. The car just came out in Japan 2 months ago so no one has any pricing. I had no pricing for reference until JT Imports is selling it and then I found out I might have paid too much and I did. The group buy prices I posted were instructed by my Japanese contact. He gave me the prices on how many I order and what kind of price break I get and I just followed it.
Everyone who have purchased them or have put down a deposit all got their refunds, even people who didn't know about this forum. They didn't even ask for refund but I just did it because I think it's the right thing to do.
It was my mistake for hurrying to get whatever JDM parts I can get so I can offer them to you. It's my mistake for not to wait until other people are selling them so I know if I am paying the right price.
Whatever the case is, no one got ripped off, especially those who did not purchase.
I have a good reputation among the rx7 people. Why don't you go to the rx7forum or nopistons and check it out yourself. Give me a reason why I want to ruin my reputation just over some clear sidemarkers so I will lose all the customers.

PlanMan 08-07-2003, 03:13 PM Ordered through Rotaryextreme. $70 including shipping.
brothervoodoo 08-07-2003, 03:28 PM mikeb, you can email Jason at jt-imports, but according to their website it will take 5-8 days from the time THEY ship them, not including any possible time it may take for them to get the part (assuming the have none in stock). I would give it a week.
planman, I'm sure Rotary Extreme has some that probably didn't sell the 1st time around, and they are in the US so you'll probably get them sooner assuming they have 'clear-corners' in stock.
PlanMan 08-07-2003, 03:40 PM Actually, just got a confirmation e-mail that they were mailed via US priority mail and should be here in 2-3 days. Looks like I'll be putting them on early next week. One of Chuck's e-mails stated he only has 3 more of them in stock.
tribal azn2 08-07-2003, 05:23 PM i ordered from JT also. i asked how long it would take and he told me this on 8/5 at 4:07AM
"A lot of stuff comes into Cali and im getting them from Mazda tomorrow so I would say at the max 4-5 days"
so thats like 2-3 more days
Jt-Imports 08-08-2003, 02:47 AM Yeah I posted before on the old thread that was deleted. For WEST coast it usually takes 4-5 days, and EAST coast is usually 5-6 days, 8 days being the max. Sometimes is takes 8 in Canada and some places in the middle of no where in the states too.

Did they come with installation instructions? I guess my main question is how to take the current yellow plastic marker off.

...A SHORT BLUNT PHILLIPS HEAD DRIVER FOR THE PLASTIC SNAP-INS THAT SECURE THE WHEEL WELL LINING. MARKER ITSELF COMES OFF WITH A SMALLER PHILLIPS HEAD DRIVER. JUST ONE SCREW AND UNPLUG IT, AND IT'S OFF!

tribal azn2 08-08-2003, 06:16 PM so mine should be arriving in 1-2 days...?
Jt-Imports 08-08-2003, 08:14 PM What Im going to do is everyone will have a $10 discount off anything in JTs store. I would just paypal it, but you and I would lose some of it to PAYPAL.
So I figured this would be best.
The people getting them are are as follows..

Noble
Earle
Huang
Chapman
Kee
Ortega
Carrillio
PC( you know)
Reichert
Johnson
Mackin
Pryor
Cordes
Ramas
Miller
Mutz
Barto

Only one person didnt make it and Im sorry to say and they have been contacted already.
I would give tracking numbers here, but thats too much info.
I did check a couple of them and Im assuming since the Typhoon is attacking the main land right now, that maybe why they are all still here in Japan. We will call an see directly.
The rest of you good luck with your parts and depending on if your on the WEST or EAST coast will depend on when you get your parts. WEST usually 3-4 days, EAST 4-5 days. Inland away from the rest of the world is usually 6-8 days, and Canada is 4-6 days. Thanks it was a pleasure.

wait so everyone that ordered is getting 10$ back?
and the clears havnt left japan yet?
Jt-Imports 08-08-2003, 08:29 PM Yeah I put it out on the last thread that got delted, I will give $10 discount on any item we sell since if I do it by PAYPAL I and U will lose some of it to PAYPAL.
They havent left Japan according the the tracking I assume because of the TYPHOON--We are checking
OK for a recap- I didnt have them in stock on the 4th, I said I ordered 20 sets then, and I hope I can get them by the 8th before Mazda Part centers go on vacation. I did just barely get them in time and picked them up packed them and shipped them all on the same day which was the 7th since we got a little lucky, because they are CLOSED the 8th. So its been only 1 day.
Nothing I can do or say when someone else has them in stock, some times they are some times they arent, just depends on what it is.
I know a few more companies put up the clear markers and prices I think after me, and they dont have them in stock either due to the Japanese HOLIDAY and the TYPHOON thats blowing down my house now hehe
JT
tribal azn2 08-08-2003, 08:37 PM have u given the discount yet? cause i just checked my paypal and its not in there
Jt-Imports 08-08-2003, 08:47 PM PLEASE READ THIS, I think I have put this out 3 times now...
Yeah I put it out on the last thread that got delted, I will give $10 discount on any item we sell since if I do it by PAYPAL I and U will lose some of it to PAYPAL.
If you really want the money threw paypal I will do it, but you wont get $10 since they will take some.
This was from my last post too....
JT
tribal azn2 08-08-2003, 09:08 PM o so your saying u dont want to send it thru paypal because they take some money. so what other ways can u send it?

no thats not what his saying. his saying everyone gets a 10$ refund. but he doesn't want to send it thru paypal because they charge commission
Jt-Imports 08-09-2003, 05:43 AM Tribal Azn2---Actually thats exactly what Im saying. I wanted to just give the money back threw PAYPAL, but you cant just refund part of the money FEE FREE, so I decided I will just give $10 any further purchases, this means off ANYTHING in our store.
Even if you want to get a couple spare keys or something it would be FREE!! This is just an EXAMPLE
I Just checked a couple orders and the WINKERS are leaving for the US tonight, they have flight times of tonight WOOHOOO!! The TYPHOON slowed them a little.. Now depending on where you are give it a few days. The further you are from International airports, the longer it takes but I have NEVER seen it go over 8 days, except for someone that wasnt home for a few weeks HEHE

brothervoodoo 08-09-2003, 10:51 AM JT, thanks for taking the time to keep us informed (even though as hard as you try some people still don't get it :D ) Well, the blinkers are on the way, I'm tinting today, I guess it will be time for a few more pictures!

mikeb 08-11-2003, 05:11 PM I ordered from jt on 8-5-03 and I traced package today and it hit San Francisco yesterday and I should have them in 2-3 days.
highspeed8 08-11-2003, 05:19 PM Mine arrived today, but I wasn't home to sign for them. :( So tomorrow is the day, but that was fast shipping!
RodsterinFL 08-11-2003, 06:14 PM I ordered yesterday from Rotary Extreme listed for $55 as a group. THere are 3 people of 10. The owner e-mailed me saying that he had 100 pair on order but I would be 2 weeks before shipping.
tripwire 08-11-2003, 06:41 PM Got my clears today - got em installed. Pretty sweet. The shape of them is slightly different than the colored ones - different for the better. It's slightly more aerodynamic looking.
It was a biach getting the little connectors off!!!
tripwire 08-11-2003, 06:44 PM ps: they're not blinkers - right? Call me an idiot, but I haven't been in from of my RX-8 while turning, and I didn't test them out before swapping them out, and I have only ever seen one other RX-8 on the road -- and it wasn't turning...
I just assumed that those were the blinkers, but after I swapped out my colored ones for the clear ones, I hit the blinker and nothing happened, hazard lights - nothing. Turning on the parking lights illuminates the clears with the amber light inside.
The clear looks much better with the Titanium than the amber ones did.

mikeb 08-11-2003, 07:58 PM They are not blinkers youre right, they are running lights. Is the light bulb they use a small wedge bulb.
tripwire 08-11-2003, 08:27 PM it's a small rounded bulb - amber in color vs the white light in the US spec.
tribal azn2 08-11-2003, 08:51 PM what the hell? how does the east coast get them before cali?
Jt-Imports 08-11-2003, 10:50 PM looking good... Im liking the pics hehe

KOITO 3M
194

Sorry for the questions Tripwire, I guess I will find out myself when I get my clears, but is installing the bulb harness necessary? Will the clear markers fit over the existing bulb harness, Yes or No? Or is the bulb harness necessary because the japanese 'yellow' bulb does not fit in the US spec harness.
Just got mine today, will be installing later this afternoon...

Hopefully, the postal carrier will leave them on my porch today (or tomorrow). The post office is WAY out of my way.

Please don't feel sorry for asking questions, I hope I was able to help you out a bit and I certainly don't mind helping someone out if I can. And I hope I gave you the correct numbers you were concerned about. This is how it works though: You shoudn't have to worry about bulb replacements.
The "orange" markers that are already in the car contain a clear light bulb.
The "clear" markers that we're getting from JT come with the connector and bulb already affixed to the marker with an amber bulb.
It's all included, but I see what you're saying, and had I been as insightful as you I would have saved myself a lot of pain by trying to get the electrical connector off -- it took a while the first time -- when I could have just removed the bulb holder from the marker and swapped out the bulbs. I'm a moron - I should have though of that earlier. oh well.
The bulb assembly looks exactly the same. The only differences are the color, and the clear markers are more aerodynamically shaped.
tpryor 08-12-2003, 12:01 PM My son called and told me he just signed for mine! Even included stickers, and you KNOW how us SCCA boys LOVE stickers...........
brothervoodoo 08-12-2003, 12:02 PM Thanks Tripwire,
Now to go one step further if you guys want to replace the yellow bulb with one of these clear one's at www.stealthauto.com . This is just an aesthetic choice but will make the car look cleaner since it will be totally white instead of seeing a yellow bulb showing through the clear side marker. Go to to the webpage to understand what I am trying to say.
The part number is 194 according to Trip's post above.
mikeb 08-12-2003, 12:29 PM ordered jt 080403 got them today. those stealthbulbs are nice. I'm changing all the front lights exept the HID of course to hyper white

tribal azn2 08-12-2003, 06:19 PM no help?
tripwire 08-12-2003, 06:48 PM Unscrew the black screws from the wheel wells. when you're doing the front right tire, turn your steering wheel to the left. peel back the black plastic a bit, there should be a single screw, get a philips head and unscrew it, push out the parking light. you can leave it connected - as it was a nightmare for me to get off - then you unscrew the lamp from the parking light.
extract the bulb and swap it with the amber bulb, pop in the clear marker, screw it down, and twist-lock the bulb holder into place.
and yer done.
hope that helps.
Jt-Imports 08-12-2003, 07:31 PM Good to hear it guys.

I did mine yesterday, took about 15 minutes total. BUT, 5 minutes of that was trying to find the connector release to undo the harness! Once I figured it out (mine was on the side facing the bodywork), it unclipped with no issue. The other side took less than 5 minutes.
You'll love the new look.
By the way, the clip is released from the very back of the connector receptacle (a small grooved pad that pushes down to release). Finding this first will save you a lot of time and trouble.
Jamie 08-14-2003, 10:20 AM I received mine. It took about one week. They are easy to install. I looked in the owner's manual to find out how to access the bulbs. Turn the wheels to gain access to the wheel wells. There are approx. 5 plastic 1/4 turn Philips screws to remove. The top screw is a little tricky because you have to apply pressure to the outer ring to keep the whole assembly from spinning. Once the screws are removed, pull back the wheel well plastic a little bit to gain access to the one screw that keeps the light assembly in place. Remove the screw with either a Philips screwdriver or a nut driver (not sure what size). Pull the side of the light nearest the wheel well. A plastic tab keeps it held in. Then just slide the light assembly towards the wheel well.
The clear light assemblys come with a light cable and orange lamp. I found it is easier to to not install the new cable. Just swamp lamps.
Jt-Imports 08-14-2003, 07:34 PM Did anyone use the harness?
I was just curious, these were being sold as an assy from
Mazda, but I can see if we can get it from them without the
harness, and if possible we might just do that for the future
damn that sucks..

o_town_racer 09-09-2003, 04:20 PM blink blink
o_town_racer 09-09-2003, 04:21 PM Orange in the US, clear in Europe. You can buy the clear ones to make your car look more "European".....personally I like mine just the way it came from the factory.
dcfc3s 09-09-2003, 04:39 PM The clear blinkers are also standard in Japan. Rotary Extreme sells them, BTW.
Personally, I like the clear markers - looks a lot sharper and cleaner.

RX-8 Zoomster 09-10-2003, 01:23 AM Be aware that you can buy the clear side markers to replace your yellow markers, however when you do this, you must replace the clear bulb with a yellow bulb. It is the law that states your side turn signals must be yellow. So clear side marker = yellow bulb. Yellow side marker = clear bulb.

not in cali they dont. front blinkers can be any color in cali. but rears must be amber or red.
dont know about other states.
Rev It Up 09-10-2003, 07:53 AM Well for heavens sake, I thought they where clear because they just ran out of BLINKER FLUID !!!
jdaled 09-10-2003, 09:32 AM BTW, those aren't blinkers... they're side markers, they don't blink. The blinkers are in the headlight assembly and use amber bulbs.
As for the state laws, I checked here in IN, and the law speaks about the color reflected from the lense as well, so I'm a bit hesitant to get the clear corners, although I do want them.
If I do go ahead and get them, I'm planning to put in some chrome/silver coated amber bulbs (stealth type).

mrtux 09-16-2003, 01:50 PM has anyone actually bought the clear winker set from JT-Imports i realize now they have 3 options. One with the harness the other without and one just the plain winkers. Would it still install and fit in as good without the harness? How much of a difference does the harness make? Last how long did it usually take to get them shipped?
brothervoodoo 09-16-2003, 03:11 PM At least 15 forum members, myself included, bought from Jt-Imports. We received the sidemarker, harness and yellow bulb. I found it easier to install by using the original harness and just replaced the bulb and sidemarker.
Goto jt-imports.com and send them an email, I'm sure Jason will return your replies.
ectomort 09-16-2003, 05:46 PM I bought the harnessless ones from JT-Imports. I received them yesterday (it took about a week for them to ship) and installed them in about 10min. I bought 194NA amber bulbs from a local auto supply shop for less than $4, and just popped em in. Piece o' cake.
mikeb 09-16-2003, 05:59 PM jt didn't always have 3 options, they do know because most people didn't use the harness and bulb.
If I bought it again I would save the cash and just get the sidemark with no harness or bulb
ectomort 09-16-2003, 07:04 PM I got lucky... Jason had 10 units w/o the harness and offered me one + $30 refund. It worked out perfectly for both of us, as I wasn't planning on using the harness anyways.
garyna 09-17-2003, 06:11 PM I have an extra pair of these clear side marker lenses listed in the classified section if you're interested. No harness or bulb. Thx!

loco4rx8 09-17-2003, 10:00 PM If so, have you received yours, or do you have an ETA of when they will ship them? They won't return my emails.
Thanks.
mikeb 09-18-2003, 01:33 AM sorry to hear that
I went thru Jt-imports
Jt-Imports 09-20-2003, 04:44 AM Yeah I wish I knew it was possible and or not needed to have the harness. At least we wont run into that one again. Some people recieved refunds on the spot due to excepting the winkers without bulbs or harnesses.
Well good luck with them everyone.
JT
Tamas 10-02-2003, 12:10 PM For those who installed the clear corners from jt-imports: I was wondering if you need to buy the whole assembly with the harness, or just the clear lens.
They are offering three versions: with harness, without harness and lens only. I wonder what's the best way to go.
Here is the link:
Clear corners at jt-imports (http://www.jt-imports.com/Mazda_RX8_JDM_Parts.htm)
Of course the lens alone is cheaper... did anyone of you get just the lens and can tell me about any problems while installing them?
Thanks!
You just need the lenses.
Here's the install thread: http://www.rx8forum.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=10379
jtimbck2 10-28-2003, 01:32 PM I got my clear side markers from JT-Imports yesterday and installed them last night. I knew they'd improve the appearance, but I had no idea it would be that dramatic!
The clear markers look FANTASTIC on my Titanium Gray 8! It should have come with them.
x-mobile 10-28-2003, 02:04 PM I just recieved my clear side markers too ....and I installed it..and they Look great!! I'll post pics up when I get a chance!!
mikeb 10-28-2003, 02:13 PM congrats
you are right they should of came stock
allstate 10-28-2003, 02:25 PM Yes please post pics. Also, how much did it cost?

The clear side markers look much better on most colours, but I prefer the orange ones on the red as it makes them less obvious, however in the UK we all get clear ones.
I suppose you can't please everyone!
Cheers

Tamas 10-28-2003, 03:13 PM In that case, I'll swap my orange side markers with your clear ones when my car arrives (should be in about two weeks). Interested? :)
So I guess I shouldn't mention how we Aussies get clear sides as standard gear :p
druck 10-28-2003, 03:39 PM Still waiting for my order too. If we did a swap, we'd both be without sidemarkers for however long they took to cross half the world. I'd rather get the old ones off someone whos already done a replacement, and fit them when I get chance. After that you'd be welcom to my clear set.
Any how clear markers or not, I envy you being able to take your new RX8 for a blast around the twisties on route 1. I was in SF this time last year and the weather was gorgeous. Here in the UK, the clocks have just come off day light savings, so its dark, cold and raining and really not the weather to enjoy a new car.
Cheers

Thanks for the offer... I might take you up on that, especially if my car will be delayed (hope not) unless I can't wait and jump the gun with ordering a pair beforehand :D

Yep, the weather is pretty good. It was well over 90 Fahrenheit (something like 30 Celsius or so) last weekend :D
It's like summer here... can't wait for my car.
jdaled 10-28-2003, 03:58 PM Ummmm... I think the reason we don't get clear corneres as stock in the US is because so many states (if not all) have outlawed them. In Indiana, the law requires Amber reflectors at the front corners... not just light up amber, but reflect amber.

Definitely not ALL states. Indiana maybe, but for instance in CA, the side marker can be amber OR white.
But I agree with you - even if there is any ONE state that outlaws clear markers, Mazda USA will import the ONE version which is OK everywhere - and since amber is not outlawed anywhere, they certainly go with that.
Kinda sucks of course because that pumpkin color is ugly on all but maybe on red and perhaps yellow cars.

It is almost always dark, cold and raining over there..... The difference is that off of daylight savings it gets dark around 3.
energie 10-28-2003, 10:53 PM how much? do they still have them in stock? the last time i heard, he told me he's out of stock.
if they have them in now, i'll order a pair

as i understand it, in texas it is technically required that there are two markers that reflect yellow/amber. and so your side markers can be any color (between white and yellow)... the catch is that there is nothing out on the market that reflects amber that isn't already amber. that's why a lot of cars have just the amber turn signal covers with a "reflective patch" on the side of the cover; it kills two birds with one stone.
now whether the cops will pull you over just because you have clear markers is a different story. mostly likely the cop will just add the citation onto something bigger (like speeding, etc.).

---Dave I'll sell you my amber ones if you want....or I'll swap you for the white ones...someone always needs or wants the white ones over here ...:)
so... looking a jt imports.. do i need to order the harness too? or harness with blinkers? in other words.. which one should i order?
Tamas 10-30-2003, 09:45 PM As far as I understand it, the only thing you should need are the lenses - no harness. You are gonna use your existing one.
mikeb 10-31-2003, 12:23 AM you just need the corners
no harness necessary
thanks guys.. just ordered it from jt imports.. :)
jtimbck2 10-31-2003, 06:28 AM You need the bulbs too -- the stock bulbs are clear, the ones that you get with the clear corners are amber.
thanks.. but i believe those are 194 bulbs right? .. i a pair of PIAA extreme white and was going to use that..
does anyone know the Law in Illinois regarding lights? (or have a link) .. just wanted to make sure on my signals and stuff.
mikeb 10-31-2003, 01:12 PM I dont know for sure
but most likely its illegal
I used hyper white bulbs in my corners though anyways

jeffs8 12-01-2003, 11:56 PM Does anyone know the best place to purchase clear corners? There's a guy on ebay selling them for $63, but he want's $14.50 to USPS them!!! He can kiss my Ti-Grey, 18" Wheel Riding A$$ !!!!
Thanks,
-js
EDIT ---> Got them from CARZOOMER. Nice guy, nice catalog, good prices, and fast shipping. Just waiting for the Website....
Try Canzoomer, he has his own forum in the Vendor's section. I ordered the clear corners off him, he sells them for $66(Cdn) or $52(US). Best deal I found anywhere and he sells a lot of other cool parts you can only get from Japan for very good prices.
Try www.boomplustoys.net seems like those guys has quite some parts for the RX8 too! Good Luck! ;)
Are the corner colors an option? I have seen amber, clear, and some pics look more yellow. Are people changing these aftermarket, or can you pick from the dealer?
mikeb 12-10-2003, 12:47 AM orange is standard from dealers in US
clear is aftermarket or JDM for about 60 bucks
yellow is just a bad picture of orange
wakeech 12-10-2003, 12:52 AM i'm a big fan of well designed amber lenses (that complement the design of the car, whilst keeping it legal).
the clear corners are wearing extremely thin on me, especially with multicoloured lights which idiots seldom use to signal anyways when changing lanes... *grumble grumble*
sorry :) off topic.
brothervoodoo 12-10-2003, 01:04 AM Mikeb is spot on.. excuse keech, not having an 8 is starting to effect his mood.. ;)

The corners on the RX-8 don't flash with the turn signals. They should, but they don't.
I'm working on a relay setup with connectors that can be easily plugged into the corner harness to provide that functionality.
Cool thanks for the info. Amber looks terrible on yellow. Looks like 60 bucks for the JDM ones. If I go with yellow that is. If I even buy an eight that is. I am so confused.
Half year models may be coming with fixed ecu, but no yellow. C6 will be unveiled in less than a month. And my MX-6 is really starting to piss me off.
Grand National 12-10-2003, 02:10 AM umm... i didnt write that.

No, you didn't.
I did.
However, for some reason, I got logged in as you for a minute.
That sucked. Any one care to explain how that was possible?
Sorry 'bout that GN.
j1mb0x99 12-10-2003, 07:39 AM so if the corners don't light with the turn signal, when do they light?
-JiM
Grand National 12-10-2003, 09:45 AM Thats fine.

When you turn your lights on. They just stay on constantly like the LEDs in your tail lights.
loco4rx8 12-10-2003, 10:10 AM Those amber ones are mighty hideous. The clears are definitely worth the $60. I can't think of a color the amber would work well on.
mikeb 12-10-2003, 01:24 PM I was thinking about wiring the clear winkers to blink
keep us posted on that please
Tamas 12-10-2003, 11:59 PM I think the only color where the ambers don't look out of place on this car is the red.
On pretty much all the others, the clear corners are the way to go. Outside the US (and maybe Canada), clears are the standard lenses.
Cheapest source is at www.jt-imports.com - they cost $51 shipped.

black too (but can still look ok with clears... but then it's nearly all grey, and very boring). blue is pretty good (IMO would look worse with the clears). yellow, yes, amber sucks. red, also agree is ok. green... i have no idea how to solve that dilemma. white, they look awful.
success07 12-11-2003, 09:27 AM Alot of people have installed the clear corners as well as myself and the improvement in the 8's looks are amazing. The amber on my Yellow was hideous and it wasn't but a week into owning the car that I had them ordered from jt-imports.
There is a thread out there on the installation and it helped tremendously, very simple process. Though alot of people are taking out the internal reflector which will add some time to the process but not long according to those that have done it. I chose not to take mine out and I think it looks great.
strong bad 12-11-2003, 11:40 AM Yeah, just make sure you don't strip the plastic screws that hold the black cover in place. One of the screws on my passenger side was already stripped so it was A PAIN to get that one off. In the end, I didn't bother with it and went to another. Fortunately, there are about 4 screws up and down that thing...so I went to the very top one and then peeled away the cover.

I can vouch that the blue looks MUCH better with the clear corners. But then, blue and orange are a disgusting combo in my mind. :)
The yellow and orange looked even more hideous in person.
I am not sure what Mazda was thinking with giving the US amber corners. Clear looks better on any color.
MrWigggles 12-12-2003, 04:08 PM It is DOT regulation that there has to be an amber lens on the sides of the front of the vehicle.
Amber bulbs with clear lens aren't enough to satisfy the DOT but are usually enough to make your car legal or at least keep you from getting a ticket in your locality.
-Mr. Wigggles
Ps. Black looks better with amber? "To 'keech his own," I guess.
I have amber corners on my black MX-6 obviously, and I would never think of paying money for clears. I shouldn't have said better on every car, but it definitely is not any worse on black.
I didn't realize it was a DOT regulation though. You learn something every day.
wakeech 12-13-2003, 02:20 PM yes, i'm very pro-regulation as far as colouration and making sure the car's visibililty is where it should be.
i just think that the whole "Euro" bland thing is just old... black Beemers with clear everythings are just boring to me; i like colour, it's not a crime :p
sup3rbad 12-14-2003, 03:03 AM ambers look okay on red, i think ambers look pretty good on black.
Bigcat44 12-16-2003, 10:02 AM Just checking out the JT website http://www.jt-imports.com/Mazda_RX8_JDM_Parts.htm
and noticed they sell the corners with a wiring harness? Why can't the stock harness be used?
From the website, "We sold several sets of these with the harness and the majority of customers said the harness was NOT needed so we put up the option of weither you would like it or not."
You can use the factory harness...maybe a different version of the 8 outside the states and Japan requires the harness..but I haven't heard any reason you would need it...I didn't..
success07 12-16-2003, 10:33 AM Just the winker - It's all you need. $51 out the door. Will arrive in a week or so due to the holiday. Easy to install and a great addition to the 8's appearance. Ordered mine from jt and all went smoothly.
Bigcat44 12-16-2003, 11:12 AM Thanks just ordered them
syntrix 12-16-2003, 08:33 PM Here's some pics of what I did on mine:
http://rx8.swankmonkey.com/clear_corners/
The bulb you want to keep amber and legality in some areas is 194NA.

You don't need the wiring harness on a US-spec 8. You should order the amber/yellow bulbs though; they're required in most jurisdictions.
Bigcat44 12-17-2003, 10:24 AM Yeah I was going to ask that as my maxima used the Polarg Hyperblue lights.
mikeb 12-17-2003, 12:15 PM I used the stock wiring and removed the metal reflector inside the winker
Also I have a hyper white bulb in mine
no tickets yet

amysmojo 12-23-2003, 08:05 PM SO how much should I be looking at paying for the clear side markers? I found someone selling them on ebay last week for lke $60 plus $15 S&H. How much $ have those of you out there paid for yours??? Where did you get them? Any suggestions? I just wasn't sure if $75 was a good deal or not...
mikeb 12-23-2003, 08:17 PM try jt-imports.com or our vendors section
amysmojo 12-23-2003, 08:22 PM nice! thank you mikeb :D

ok he's gouging you on the s/h. $15 for 2 pieces of light plastic? still $75 including shipping may be a good deal.
Canzoomer should be able to get them to you for $62. $53 +$9 shipping to Texas (so it might be even cheaper for you, he lives in Canada)

success07 12-24-2003, 08:41 AM jt-imports for $51 out the door and to your house in a week! Installation is a snap. Search for the thread which shows step by step pics of the installation. Good Luck!
Dremd911 02-10-2007, 08:11 PM Is it illegal to have clear bulbs in your side markers....also...what do you all prefer...removing the little reflector that blocks light out of the rest of the bulb or keeping it in????
N rider89 02-10-2007, 08:40 PM removing it so light will dispers fully in the clear corner
N rider89 02-10-2007, 08:41 PM its supposidley illegal to run any color other than amber in your corners.
also clear corners are technically illegal because they dont reflect amber, but rarely will a cop but you for it
RotaryP7 02-11-2007, 01:45 AM More than 50% of the users in here have clear corners and none complain about getting stopped. Those that live in the US that is.. I need some..
Dremd911 02-11-2007, 10:48 AM how do you take that little piece out when you have loosened it...it doesnt look like it will fit trhough the light hole?
