I had it happen 300 miles away from home last year when trying to load a new map from MM and it was a quite scary to see the AP tell me it's going into recovery mode or whatever it's called.
I remember thinking, "OH SHIT! This had better freaking work or towing my car home is going to suck."

One point of note with windows 7, Hymee's last email to me regarding USB Live was that it will not work with 64 bit systems yet, no driver support.

Don't waste your money. Maybe only 30% as developed as the Cobb AP and currently you can expect zero support even if he would respond and sell it to you. I paid $1000 and never received a reply to my base tune requests. I would have been happy to sell it for half what I paid but the buyer backed out because his numerous email requests went unanswered. I know he's tied up in the SC situation but when you're in my shoes it's no consolation.

really? i've been assuming it's being dumped... its been over 3 months since he's even been here, longer than that since any news of the SC

Honestly I just installed it but you can also run the program in compatibility mode (Windows 7 can run just about any software built for previous version of windows). I am also running Windows 7 ultimate. Once you install it just right click on the icon and run as administrator.



Haha, that would get expensive. But heck Walmart has nice little Acer laptop with a 250GB hard drive and 2GB of ram that runs Windows 7 for $298.00 right now as a back to school special.

I have tested all I can think of, maybe you have a different version of the brick aswell.

downfalls of the PT software in my opinion :

*Ease with which you can erase the brain on the ECU
*Lack of a way to recover the brain when that happens
*lots of bugs with the software around using the "brick"
*Can't use someone elses brick to even do a log - major PIA swapping the brick back and forth when trying to tune .
*Clumsiness of the whole getting started routine - it is not PNP
*Very hard to sell - because you need Mark to get involved in that process.
*Can't permanently delete cels

Get most of this resolved and it could be a great product .....

Amen to that, I have some issues in PT also. Time outs when sending PTC files to the brick is so annoying. My version dont like the modifier either (multiplyer etc.) I have to copy cells to excel and do my mods there and type in every single cell in PT.

I have been flashing away with PT for a year now and luckily I haven't bricked the pcm.

still I can get distracted and do things to quickly, skip steps and so on.. and never had a problem.

I won't say it is without bugs. changing the brick between flash and log can be problematic. to avoid this I would invest in a second brick or pick-up a second-hand dude logger. then you have one for flashing and one for logging.

I'm fine with the actual software. I haven't noticed bugs apart from the logger to flashing selection.

hymee has also been very good with communication for me. not instant but very good. he also has made a real effort on a couple of occasions to solve my issues.

as far as i'm aware the base tune that hymee provides is the std mazda flash and may not be the most recent revision. after all he is selling a tuning solution not custom tunes. tuning is your responsibility.

If you are having issues with it timing out when loading the brick, try another cable.

Short answer - yes I have gotten all the PT and USB live functions to work...the live USB alone is worth it to me, I like it.

I also bricked my PCM without doing anything wrong, this was uncool...got Cobb to help me recover it and bought a Cobb AP after that. So these days I am on the Cobb for tuning. Bugs are bad, especially when they will fry an ECU that you cannot fix easily.

Which is a VERY valid point, the HYMEE will work on everything (just needs bug fixes) and I would say it is the next best thing to the Cobb for tuning the 8, and in some cases, the only solution out there.

exactly! if cobb had answered my questions accurately instead of the "don't hold you breath" for .au support (was release a month or two latter) and they would let me tune the thing. the I would probably be using cob right now.

same here, I was just about to order an AP when I discovered no Accesstuner Race for EUDM RX-8.

I'm feed up with "tuners" so I want to do it myself, Have gone down the road with piggybacks and didn't want to start over again with being in the hands and mercy of a "tuner".

wasn't your car tuned by Cobb before using an AP?

Has anyone been able read the ECU image from the car using the PT? I have maps provided by Hymee for RX8 which I sold, but my US$1000 software is now useless even if I get my hands on another RX-8.
Comparing the PT with likes of ECUflash available free for EVOs, PT really is a joke with all the bugs. I seriously regret buying it specially with zero support nowadays.
There hasn't been a software update since probably over a year and I bought it in May 2008.

No it doesn't have that capability and likely won't any time soon.

You will need the Harrison R&D Apex Flasher for that capability. It does this very well, but at the present time all flashing work using that system is in hex format. ECU Flash is in development for the RX-8.

It's a real shame that more development has not gone into the product . Now that the AP is no more the PT could have filled the void but sadly in its present state it really is not a good option .

I too wish more work would have gone into this project as it has plenty of potential and now has a renewed market with the departure of the AP.

Sadly - I think the SC build is what killed any further development in PT .

I think tubing is still waiting on his, isn't he? I know the SC took up a huge chunk of Hymee's time but I'm sure he can find a few spare minutes to respond to some emails or PM's??
