do you have an aftermarket exhaust? I had the same prob when i got my exhaust was just a hangar rubbing on the rear diff.! Do you have any mods at all done?

broken motor mounts. causing your exhaust to rattle hitting stuff under your car. my exhaust hits the gas tank heat shield.

here's the TSB (http://www.finishlineperformance.com/pdf/rx8/bulletin/01-021-06-1559.pdf) for it.

Could just be a something as simple as a loose heat shield rattling.

Perhaps this is a noob question, but is there an easy inspection of the motor mounts? I have an 04 MT, and it vibrates like hell at 750-800 rpm, but then its smooth like butter at 1k rpm.

I haven't ridden in enough 8s to know if that is normal or not.

I too am a little curious. Can you see/feel for cracks around the motor mount? I've never seen a bad motor mount up close.
If I recall correctly, the newer motor mounts have a heat shield due to the exhaust temps.
You could at least check to see if it was ever replaced.

Thanks for the reply

No I do not have any aftermarket parts installed on my rx8 but my vin number is lower that one stated on the TSB if it is a cracked engine mount would mazda cover the repair?

you might want to check your plugs and coils... mine does the same... check into BHR an awesome solution :)

If you're out of warranty, which being an '04 you most likely are... no, the repair bill would be on you.

TSBs are not really recalls, they're just common problems released to the dealers so they know how to fix it quickly. Most TSBs were released when the cars still had their bumper to bumper.

Suckers like you and me are S.O.L. when it comes to the TSBs, all we can do is read the TSB and fix it ourselves. Or give the TSB to a shop you trust.

Could still be a lot of different things under there rattling.

Oh, Sorry, I thought it was an '04. My bad... you might have some bumper to bumper warranty left over then. You need to find the original purchase date and I think it has a 4 year bumper to bumper... someone else on here would know that for sure.

let us know what they say. i would guess that bad motor mount(s) are causing the exhaust rattle..which may be something as simple as a converter heat shield.

I have a similar rattle. It mainly does it at idle. I've heard the noise before in a 240sx I had. It was the heat shield. Let us know what you find out though.

Went to Mazda dealer today found out my warranty has expired in march 08 but anyways the rattling sound has been fixed it was a bent exhaust hanger causing it.

They straightened out the hanger and the vibration is gone thank goodness.

The good news is they didn't charge me. They mentioned that the engine has a misfire but said not to worry about?
