sure. the EMU can be had pretty cheaply, though it takes almost constant adjustments to keep everything running right for most people. if you rewire things and do it properly it can be a bit better, but it seems like a pain. The Int-X is also there, there are some downsides to it as well, one of which being it doesnt have the granularity to idle like OEM. i think there are a few using the Powermod as well.

MY EMU wired right seems to do just fine. For NA - I would say it is a decent option - but really not going to have the seamlessness of Cobb - and the HP gains are probably very small.

Hymee's Scanalyser Pro-Tuner:)

Also Pettit is offering an NA tune using the EFI Dude hardware so thats an option.

Also there is a flash solution available or soon to be for the DashDaq

If you can do without your ECM for a week, the Racing Beat flash is an option. Half the price.

Another question along these lines.

What is the advantage of paying $300 to the custom AP tuners for a stock setup, over the maps posted on the Cobb Forum? The car is an 04 MT N/A stock exhaust and setup. Are there any major gains to be had by paying the extra money for the custom tune?

I'm actually a little curious myself on what you guys have seen with someone using the AP and being completely stock.
I know they can't expect major HP gains being totally stock, but what kind of tuning adjustments have you guys made to stock setups?
Something that would help with engine longevity?

leaning out the super rich AFR's can help sqeak out some HP.

VS8: as mentioned above, plenty of options just comes down to what you want out of the car and how much your wallet is willing to part with

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought running rich was better on the cat and leaning it would cause it to fail sooner.

Yes, or:

Intercepter X
Microtech
Canzoomer (obsolete)
Racing Beat (fixed flash, can't tune)

and now there are two more that also have a fixed flash.

Until you get around to it.....

The factory ECU will adapt to your mods - they will cause no harm to the engine (other than throwing a CEL for the missing cat).

AccessPort or Hymee will get rid of the cel, and optimize your A/F ratios with your mods.

If you can't find a tuner local to you that will dyno or street-tune your car, then I'd recommend a MazdaManiac tune on the AccessPort.

As I read on the AccessPort post for MazdaManiac, ANY HP increase is going to reduce engine or cat life.

Tuning involves many variables, many of which are inversely proportional to each other.

Kind of like, "Fast, easy, or cheap. Choose two".
