I'm in the habit of warming up and warming down for a few mins, before and after driving respectively.
But when in a rush ( 99.464101615 % of the time ) I really wish I could just get out of the car and run, smack the "lock me now dude" central locking, and let the beggar cool down of it's own acourd, with one of those fegging kewl turbo timer gizmo's.
Thoughts?

You achieve nothing 'warming down' an NA car. You're just warming it up until the thermos kick in. Hell I don't even warm down a twin turbo car. I just drive it gently for the last couple of minutes. Not hard.

Interestingly, the manual says (at p4-6) to avoid long warm-ups … but then it also says to avoid fast turns, and always floss after every meal :D
hmmm.. I'll RTFM agian, perhaps I've been wasting my time..
timbo - as always, good tech details with an insightful addition * grin *

Dez, you should buy a Boomerang Alpha 2002 alarm system, allows remote startups from up to 4000ft away and allows timed startups and shutdowns. I'm considering one, but at a cost of between $1000-$1500 fitted, it's a pricey option.

I just got a turbo timer for the cosmo has lap times boost readout and some other cool features and its small really small its a blitz digital compact something so you can hide it some where and unclip it when you need to use it.
would be a good idea there easy to hook up to.

I agree with rpm_pwr. I asked the Mazda mechanic at the Sydney drive day about letting the car warm down, and he said it wasn't required.

And the manual says you should let it idle for 10 seconds before you drive away, but not in Germany as it is illegal. Do they have a different warranty there? At least they can go 200. I did 200km/h in a pissat deisel on an autobahn earlier this year. It took ages to wind up, flat to the floor!
Cheers,
Hymee.

Why would it be illegal? That's a bit wierd
Wish we had those Autobahn's here. Now that would be kewl :)
Funy thing is we have to cover more territory that they do in Germany, so it makes more sense for us!
