View Full Version : *shurgs* Another new engine coming soon ?
nycgps 09-13-2008, 10:05 AM Grrrr, I didnt drive my car yesterday.
Today, fired her up, hmm idle seems kinda funky, during the 2 minute warm up time, the idle was jumping from 1500 ~ 1300 all around every 2 seconds ... ok I wait till it's going around 1000. then I start driving ....
and at the first stop sign - brake - slow down - clutch in - engine died ...
then it repeated itself for at least 20 times within the 5 miles that I had travel.
Grr .... tell me this is not true !
Consider the amount of maintenance work I did to my car ... this is really disappointed :(
Last week I should have told Wayne Mazda that my car has been stalling for quite a while, not every stop sign or 2 lights like today. but it did happen. *shurgs*
need to go back ... :(

dude that sucks... I hope its something small, and stupid... and cheep... unless you really want a new engine :P
05shinka 09-13-2008, 01:25 PM My car did something similar a few days ago... ended up being a loose battery connection... might want to check that.
tunerwannab 09-13-2008, 02:28 PM I hope its something small and easy good luck.
gundarx 09-13-2008, 07:53 PM Damn, that really sucks. Hope it gets better soon. Good luck!

blah.
I feel like I did all these maintenance for nothing ... Mazda screwed me up with just a messed up flash ...
Now I wonder, if a crazy ass like me who change his oil every 1.5K-3K miles "might" get a bad motor. how many people out there actually runnin' a bad motor now without knowing it :(

this not these - jeeeebus !!!+++=1111
You probably treat it too well - these motors like to be ridden hard - have you done that ?
ken-x8 09-14-2008, 01:12 AM ... try a decarb with some seafoam .....
Will that clean out the kind of carbon deposits you get from running synthetic oil?
Ken

more like my motor is too clean, so clean + low OMP rate thx to Mazda's flash = it actually rub against each other (seals and rotor housing) and at the end, no good.

I ride her like a bitch. dont ya get that ?
Is thiz not this !
Jedi54 09-14-2008, 09:15 AM ny: don't beat yourself up over this, you might have just gotten a bad engine to begin with and ALL THIS maintenance you put in, just helped to prolong the inevitable. Had you not maintained it, you might have had the engine go BOOM a long time ago.
let us know what the stealership says tomorrow.
nycgps 09-14-2008, 09:30 AM true ...
I'll report back tomorrow :)
alnielsen 09-14-2008, 10:21 AM Hope you have better luck than I.
nycgps 09-15-2008, 02:24 PM back,
all plugs were foul, so they did a decarb + replaced all 4 plugs + all 4 new coils again.
They just replaced my coils + plugs + decarb like 3-5 months ago. They were surprised that all plugs were foul + bad coils again in such little time.
Engine is stronger than it looks, even higher compression than last time, so I guess its ok. Idle and stuff all back to normal. no new engine needed (YaY)
but they did recommend me to rev my car a bit before shutting it down. will do that from now on.
Brettus 09-15-2008, 03:07 PM Face it nycgps - you just aint riding her hard enough LOL

r0tor 09-15-2008, 05:25 PM did you just have it at the stealership? My car for whatever reason refuses to idle for the first 3 or so trips after a reflash or the fuel trims are reset...

J. that's great news! Regarding the revving before shut-off- do you shut it off while the engine revs are still falling down (so a shut-off at about 4-7K)? Or would waiting until its back to idle better?
invasion08 09-15-2008, 07:26 PM The dealer told me to do this as well. Rev the car up around 5k rpm and shut off. This will clean it out when you shut the car off.

naw, did the MSP16 months ago. plus havent pull my battery since last time replaced it (about a month ago?)

Rev the car up and just shut it off.
me, happier.
engine still works. :)

drive the car!!!!! you will have to leave the city to really do that.
beers
NoOdLe BoY 09-17-2008, 05:20 AM I hold at 3k for 10 seconds and then shut off. As per racing beats suggestion.
And glad to hear it wasn't anything serious nyc.
nycgps 09-17-2008, 05:29 AM Uhh ahh , NOT SO FAST
Forgot to mention this,
Yesterday Morning, Car died again, just like what was going on before.
This time even more, Engine was "choking" like a mofo around 4000-5000 rpm, after maybe 20 seconds or so finally a misfire code threw (flashing CEL), CEL didnt stay on cuz its first time, I backed off, then push it again, everything seems to work fine after. weird car, weird engine.
Aye .... going to dealership right now. :(
nycgps 09-17-2008, 03:02 PM Mass Air Flow sensor malfunction. replaced.
MAF sensor wire has a short, fixed.
might have to replace the whole wire, cuz I got my car, then it died at the gas station, they tow it back lol !
car at dealership now :(
Mazda 3 as loaner T_T

how many pics are there ! rofl
nycgps 09-18-2008, 07:43 PM car back home.
the "sometimes no start problem - they found a row of "misalign" pins in the PCM, they took it out and fixed it.
Car is so far so good :)
Highly recommend Wayne Mazda & their Rotary specialist Kevin :)

"Ken-Rx8, u n00b, Search!"
"Search n00b, AKA Ken-RX8!"
Easy_E1 09-18-2008, 10:40 PM Well that's good new nycgps. But I think you need another engine. I mean I've had four. I feel like I'm taking them all and not sharing.
nycgps 09-18-2008, 11:53 PM Well that's good new nycgps. But I think you need another engine. I mean I've had four. I feel like I'm taking them all and not sharing.
Well, my engine could be fine for now, but I have a feeling its going to fail before my powertrain warranty expires.
From time to time it dips around 500 rpm, especially when hot like in the summer. MPG has gone down significantly, from about 2 yrs ago I can get 200 miles b4 the light comes on, to now I barely be able to make it pass 160.
Maybe one day I might get pissed and decide to just swap it out with a rebuild from either RR or Mazmart with all the goodies in there like Dr. X's seals and all the crap. who knows :)
ken-x8 09-19-2008, 11:29 AM If the compression is good and you're not burning or leaking excess oil, why would you expect the engine to fail?
For symptoms like low idle rpm and poor mileage I'd suspect the fuel and induction systems. Your big problem was caused by a bad MAF senson, then misaligned pins on the PCU. Plus a bad wire to the MAF sensor.
What exactly was the deal with misaligned pins? Between that and the MAF sensor wire, has someone clumsy been messing around under the hood? Maybe the dealer you used to go to?
Ken

compression is within spec but its very close to the fail status.
Fuel system is ok, they tested it already (of course, I replaced the fuel pump not long ago) induction system works, Im pretty sure I install everything correctly :)
The MAF sensor I dont know, it gone bad itself. didnt even touch it much. Same thing for the wire.
Naw, the older dealer never even had a chance to open the ECU cover up. This is the report
CUST STATES CAR WILL NOT START
VERIFIED CUS CONCERN. INTERMITTENT. NO START CONDITION BEING CHECKING STARTING SYSTEM. STARTER AND CONNECTIONS ARE GOOD. CLUTCH SWITCH AND WIRING GOOD. IGNITION SWITCH AND WIRING ARE GOOD. AT PCM FIND ONE ROW OF PINS NOT FULLY SEATED ABLE TO MOVE AROUND WITHOUT DISCONNECTING CONNECTOR FOUND AND REPAIR PCM CONNECTOR
It might have something to do with the Engine Harness they replaced last time. Just because its OE stuff doesnt mean its good. Last time I got a brand new OE Radiator hose (the small ones), and it doesnt fit -_- I re-check and found that the hose are like at least 6 inches longer than it should. I have to cut them before they will fit. Argh :( so I wouldn't be surprise if the engine harness shipped with the problem :(
Now the car is back, everything works fine so far. but not gonna drive it much cuz both my mud guard broke, thx to NYC's garbage road conditions, ordered new parts thru Mazmart coming next monday.
again, Wayne Mazda is a good dealer. if this came from Manhattan Mazda, I probably end up getting some bullshit and wants me to pay for a new PCM or something. Just like the Overflow tank incident.
Jedi54 09-19-2008, 02:10 PM hopefully this fixes you and you can stop worry about the engine failing. Just enjoy it bro, if it fails later, it fails.
like swoope said, get out of the city and drive the $hit out of it.

I've been doing that sir ....
Right after I left the dealership I was driving .... *cough* .... some high speed, high rev driving :lol2: for about 20-30 minutes. I love NJ roads/highways, 100 times better than NYC's garbage.
Jedi54 09-19-2008, 02:17 PM Team: that was B.S. I watched that damn thing for like 5 minutes.
That's lost time I'll never get back. :banghead:
