Does anyone have any information on a high pitched sound coming from the engine at exactly 6000 rpms? It is an 05 six speed. It happens all the time regardless of stomping on the gas pedal or steady increase of speed to 6000 rpms. After the 6000 range the sound goes away. Power does not seem to be lost however the sound is annoying. Thanks for the help.

SSV (variable intake manifold) valve perhaps?

Thanks for the help. I read a couple of other posts on the site and most individuals claim that the sound I am hearing is happening with their engine as well. They also claim that it is not a problem. I did a little more research into your idea of the ssv (secondary shutter valve). I found this service bulletin about the Rx-8 (http://www.finishlineperformance.com/pdf/rx8/bulletin/01-014-08-1924.pdf). The service bulletin claims that the engine usually experiences a lack of power. I am going to have it checked by my dealership anyway. If the code on the PCM check engine light comes back P2070, then that is the problem. Thanks for the reply.

My car often has a really high-pitched squeal above 6k RPM, but its usually the passenger.
