Okay Guys. My Basic 3 Year Warranty Up In 2 Months. Dealership Visit.

So, my warranty is up in two months.

I haven't had any TSBs done. The only problem I've ever had was a gas cap related CEL which was the result of not tightening it enough. A battery disconnect and reconnect solved that.

I did have a couple of long starts in the winter. It started every time, but took longer than usual. It was pretty damn cold, too.

Car is an 05 with a late 04 build date.

What should I complain about to get the new plugs, battery, starter, coils, etc.?

I don't want to have the basic 3 year/36k warranty run out and then have a problem that could have been resolved by a TSB authorized fix that won't cost me anything.

Thanks.

Car is 05 with late 04? u're the same as me then

go in there and complain about hard to start. you 100% should get that done (Engine no start tsb)

Let me list out what I've replaced (warranty)
Rear tail lights - 4 times, both sides
Engine Harness - 1, last week
2 Solenoid - SSV and 2nd air pump
Door weather stripe - the rubber that seals around the door to prevent water coming in - 1 time
Trunk weather stripe - same as above.
Engine no start TSB - Done, battery changed, lasted almost 2 years, died 2 weeks ago. if you tell your dealership you have lost of power and its as good as Wayne, you might be able to get some free plugs & all 4 coils too.
Coolant overflow tank - Plastic broke - replaced

Thats all I can think of right now.

Thanks man. Okay, I am hoping to score the upgrade battery, spark plugs, starter, and maybe a new set of coils. Is this unrealistic?

I haven't had the trim problems you mention or other issues.

the weather strip has tiny crack that I noticed it when I was detailing my car.

the dealership was like *wtf* when I told them the strip cracked(it was Great Neck Mazda)

You dont have to replace any of them unless they're showing problems.

but you should really get the engine no start TSB done. and tell them you have lost of power. they might get u some coils for free (I got mine for free a month something ago, it was giving erratic sparks)

I thought warranty was 4 years on 04-05 cars?

Powertrain is 5/60 and engine 8/100

I think that 06 and up is when they changed to a 3 year basic warranty.

Yes, definitely the engine TSB. They gave you coils out of warranty? That was cool of them. Because of the TSB (is there a coil TSB)?

I need to check my manual again, but I thought bumper to bumper was 3/36k, powertrain was 5/50k.

you should be pretty happy you havent needed any of the tsb's....if you are planning on getting a battery replaced there is going to be a pro-rate percentage that you are responsible for which i beleive is about 85% of the warranty cost and a ace's battery test has to be printed showing the battery is below min spec...

Let them know that when at a stop light the RPMs dip below 800. Also that you noticed it "vibrating/shaking" when that happened. They will swap the motor mounts (It is also a TSB I believe).

Take care,

Brian

Good point. I'll probably just buy a stronger battery since it's almost three years old.

Brian, thanks. This actually has happened a couple times, but it the blink of an eye. I mean, it lasted for maybe 1/2 a second.

I need to check my manual again, but I thought bumper to bumper was 3/36k, powertrain was 5/50k.
I thought u know.

05 b2b warranty is 48 months 50K miles. whichever comes first.

powertrain has been extended to 60 months 60K miles, whichever comes first.

Damn noob! LOL !

oh nah they gave me the coils and plugs because I complained about the engine lack of power. Its part of the repair process.

Depends on the dealer, they might/might not give you the battery for free. But they should if you've never did the Engine No Start TSB.
but if they're going to pro-rate you. Screw that, We're on the 3rd year so its going to be 85% charge like gregs said. Buy an Optima red top battery, saves urself about 4-5 lbs in the engine bay and worry free for couple of years (3yr free replacement warranty, cant beat that)

hmm, I wonder if its the same thing in Canada.
I bought mine last january used, an 05.

I'll have to check that out. I just assumed my warranty was ending next month.

BTW, things I had done in the last 2 weeks on warranty at the dealership.

Couple of recalls (canadian ones):
oil cooler hose protection
fuel tank shield

Repaires (free under warranty):
Lower power (the free sparkplug one was done before I bought the car)
2 new engine mounts
Climate control unit replaced
1 rear tailight
2 rear tailight new gaskets
1 front HID autolevel sensor
Clutch bearing changed (squeak squeak sound)
Updated ECU firmware
2 light bulbs (daytime running lights where burnt)

Thats all I can remember.

Okay - Called dealer and yep, bumper to bumper warranty on my 05 is 4 years/50k miles in U.S. Excellent.

Powertrain Warranty has been extended by a year or 10k miles to 5 years/60k miles. Excellent. Did not know this.

We all know that the rotary housing warranty is 8 years/100k miles.

They told me know new battery on phone, and that hard start in winter is normal for rotary, and that this wouldn't necessitate new plugs or coils. I told them it may necessitate a new starter or other measures, then, and told them I'd see them shortly.

rofl hard start in winter is normal for rotary ?

maybe its normal for the sun to rise from the west ?

print the TSB, show it in their face, if they ask "where you got it from", just tell them "NYCGPS gave me these papers." LOL

I know. The dealership's terrible.

If I get that answer when I do take it in, face to face, we'll just see whether they get away with 'it's the nature of the rotary to be slow to crank in the winter.'
