View Full Version : Why has it all gone quiet?
mr_digital_uk 11-25-2003, 02:38 AM Haven't heard many people saying they've received their cars recently :( I was told that mine had been offloaded in Rotterdam on the 10th, but nothing since.
Anybody received a call from their dealer recently saying their car has arrived?
I'm guessing that there should be a second "wave" of cars arriving any day. (or at least I'm hoping!!)
Nothing. As usual. Mine is due to the dealers today in theory.
renegade_si 11-25-2003, 04:32 AM ....cos we're all over at the www.rx8ownersclub.co.uk
its a natural progression :)
Now just been told 29th of November to my dealer.
Glynnb 11-25-2003, 05:51 AM It can't be far away, mine was due on the 25th and came in to the dealer last Friday.
Glynnb 11-25-2003, 05:54 AM Sorry I blew that. It was due in Rotterdam on the 25th November and arrived at the dealer last Friday.
oilman 11-25-2003, 06:07 AM It's certainly not quiet in here:D

Pick mine up in one Hour, arrived last Thursday, and I had a delivery date of 25th November
:D :D
ChrisW 11-25-2003, 06:25 AM I'm in Running-in Limbo at the moment. I've played with all the toys, admired how the car looks, showed it off to everybody. Now I just want to drive the thing properly. Still 300 miles to go... This is almost as bad as waiting for the car.
AnilS 11-25-2003, 07:28 AM ChrisW, 300 miles for me too. You're right, its as bad a waiting for the car.
AnilS.
AndyPearce 11-25-2003, 07:52 AM I don't think it's as bad as waiting for the car - at least you can admire it on your drive every day and enjoy the attention it gets. :)
What revs are you keeping it under - I'm trying to stay under 4.5k but I have hit 6.5k on a few occasions (by accident!)
timmy 11-25-2003, 08:55 AM Hiya,
Not sure how true this is, but mine was due to arrive last week, but my dealer has informed me that the ship has been delayed by 2 weeks (he is unsure of the reason why), and now have a date of 5th Dec. I'm not sure how many other people are effected by this.
Not long now though :D
druck 11-25-2003, 08:58 AM AndyPearce that really is underdoing it, have some fun! Just dont hammer it up to the red line every time under 600 miles.
You do know if you ran in a modern piston engine at under half its rev limit for a 1000 miles, you probably need a new one - the oil would have never reached the hydralic valve tappets.
Cheers

Hope this is not true. Originally I had a date of 5/12, that changed to 25/11, and now they are saying 29/11 (to dealer). Given that these dates are assuming 15 days from Rotterdam (worst case) then the boat should have docked by now for a 29th to dealer date....
In short, no-one has a clue untill it turns up at the dealer.
Pathetic.
The Ace 11-26-2003, 05:37 AM Guys, I dont understand why you didnt just devote a whole weekend on running-in your RX, so that you can enjoy it properly from Day 3 ? ;)
What I always do with a new car is this: the weekend right after I'm supposed to pick up the car, I arrange for a VERY long trip somewhere with g/f (if I have at the time :D) or friends. By the time I'm back Sunday afternoon, the car is ready for some REAL fun!!!!!!
Not to mention that doing that first 1000km on the highway is the BEST way ;) Not city miles, but highway miles.......

Nope. the best way is 600miles/1000km of varied driving.
As suggested by the owners manual, vary the RPM, dont drive at a constant speed.
Most of mine was A road/town driving.
mr_digital_uk 11-26-2003, 02:43 PM OK ... Mine was 5th Dec, then told that it was in Rotterdam on 10th and they expected it within 7 days of that ... now they've no idea, but think it will be 30th Nov to the dealer .... this is really, really frustrating!!!!
To cap it all, a work colleague has confirmed that he went to look at an RX-8 in Weybridge last week, ordered on the spot and will receive it on Monday. grrrrrrrrr Not my colleague's problem, but does make me feel pretty p****d off after ordering 1st July.
Then got told by my customer today that they had two employees with RX-8's already in the car park.
I guess patience is a virtue, but mine is definitely running out.
timmy 11-26-2003, 03:44 PM I know, you sound like you're in a very similar position to me. Still, i'm pretty certain that it's now only 2 weeks away! So chin up :D
F*ck that pisses me off. Mine was 5/12, then 25/11, now 29/11 to dealer (also Weybridge).
mr_digital_uk 11-26-2003, 04:18 PM Edo,
Didn't mean to P**s u off; nice to find someone else on here who's going through it and has waited even longer than me.
not your fault! Will all be fogotten soon (next week I hope).
Murphy 11-26-2003, 05:34 PM hmmm. after the spate of "earlier than the date given", I hope things aren't starting to slip back the way.
My date was 17/12 and now it's 26/12.
Which is of course Boxing Day, so it's not going to happen!
