Had to have engine on '04 replaced at 35K. Since I got it back I'm going through oil like crazy. About 1 qt. every 100 - 150 miles. Sevice guy says Mazda guidance indicates the car may use up to a quart every 600 miles. Before engine swap, I was using relatively little oil; much less than I'd expected but now it's out of control. I'll be taking it back in to have it looked at yet again. Oh by the way, when I asked (the information was not volunteered) the service manager said I should be running 10W-30 instead of 5W-20. :banghead:

Nothing wrong with 10w-30. screw 5w-20.
I use 10w40. 5w-20 cant protect shit.
your motor's oil "eating" rate is NOT normal. go have it check.

Agree with nycgps on rate of consumption - much higher than normal. Did you get any compression #'s off the newly installed rebuilt motor after they put it in? Not all rebuilds are good rebuilds.

+1
Especially early rebuilds from hmm whats the name again"? williams or something ?
Now its better.

More like Mazda has found a company who "knows what they're doing"
They're pumping rebuilds out everyday from Virginia

You either have a problem with an oil control ring or your OMP has got a mind of it's own.
I'm going with an oil control ring seal/o-ring is bad.
Are there any oil leaks anywhere?

visually inspect your block.. look for any leaks or dried up oil..
do you see blue smoke out of the exhaust at all?
as has been stated, unless you are exaggerating, your rate of oil consumpton (1qt/100mile) is most definitely not normal..

i agree, you have a leak somewhere. if you are not seeing blue smoke out of the exhaust it is not an internal motor issue.

With the rate of oil you're burning, I'm surprised he didn't also tell you to throw in a couple of cans of STP.

Reset trip A to get a more accurate reading on oil consumption. After 236 mi. I was down 1.25 quarts. No leaks evident and no blue smoke. I'm stumped! I'll be returning the car to the dealer to check as soon as rain chances drop and I can start riding my MC to work again so the wife can have my truck while the car's in the shop.
I posted the vehicle on Autotrader. I'm tired of messing with it and have lost trust. No nibbles. Lot's of others out there for sale. I'm guessing same mistrust of future reliability. May see what I can get in trade. Too bad. Such a fun car.
