So I have searched, and it seems to me that I might be able to suspect that my endlinks are causing this metal on metal sound when I go over a decent pothole or something. I took the wheel off yesterday to look for something, but nothing was loose feeling except this little control arm, so I tightened it up, and then I got a light for the automatic head light adjusters. However, the rattle got quieter, for a bit, then it got worse so I took the thing off and it got way better, but the rattle is still there...
Any ideas...?
My other question is, if it is the endlinks (I'll just get stock ones), does it matter much how much I torque them, any specs on that?

Hmmm funny how you got this problem. I spotted this on Finishline just this weekend:
NOISE FROM FRONT OF VEHICLE / STABILIZER CONTROL LINK BROKEN (http://www.finishlineperformance.com/pdf/rx8/bulletin/02-005-08-1948.pdf)
If it is that, take it in for warranty. It affects all 8s until the 2008 models.

Wish I had my full warranty still :)

At least you have an idea what's going on :)
BTW, what sort of sound does it make when you hit a pothole? I've been cruising more with the windows down lately and on some particular roads that have an echo effect, I can hear a quick metal-to-metal contact sound from the suspension on broken pavement- I had been thinking that it's normal mechanical noise from a precision-tuned suspension (hey this is my first sports car) or something along that note LOL.

It is a metal on metal sound that is coming only from the driver side wheel it seems.
kinda of a higher pitched: clinkity tank
It should be quite basically, I don't know about your metal on metal sound, hmm... What do you mean an echo sound? Like a hollow low pitched noise? that should be normal.

Sorry if I threw you off with the "echo" note.. I meant that there are some roads that have dividers/walls to my left (driver's) side that effectively bounce the car's engine sound (and suspension sound in this case) back to me. Kind of like going in a tunnel :)
The only sound I'm hearing from the suspension is from the inbound stroke of the spring/strut and there is only once sound/note for each significant dip in the road. It sounds like a metal click.
Am I just being paranoid? :uhh: I've only driven cars with rubbery suspension prior to the 8 so this could just be normal hehe..

I don't think I have ever heard a click, but if it is faint, I honestly doubt you should ever worry about. The echo might just be the tires too.

mine are already apart, I checked. it doesnt effect me too much as long as Im not too aggressive
Im waiting for a clear sunny day with a cool breeze around 70 degrees. then Im gonna head out and replace the end link with Autoexe adjustable ones + install the new autoexe sways.

The noise you are hearing I think is the brake and Disc protector the flimsy bit of metal around that area. My last 2 RX8's have both had this noise and I just bend that plate a little back and it goes away but still comes back. Drives me mental, thinking about just removing it.. Good luck I hope this works for you and other worried 8 owners...
