Hey all, a friend of mine with a mitsubishi evo ix is thinking about upgrading his turbo. That leaves him with a spare stock evo turbo which he might give to me. I was wondering if it would be possible to fabricate a kit to make it work well with the rx-8. I know that it is possible to get it all installed but i want to know how it would work with renesis.
The turbo is twinscroll 16g with a 10.5 hotside off the evo.

Any thoughts?

how much do those sell for and could you afford a better turbo for your application using that money?

i explicitly said that i would get it for free

custom manifold+downpipe would be a pain

if that's the compressor flow map for that turbo, looks like it will work (not great, but it'd work) until high rpms. Not sure of the exact air flow the 8 takes in up top though.
then again, there may be other things mechanical that may be a problem. i'm not an expert. lol. experts can chime in can tell you more.

That turbo is way too small for a rotary. You won't be happy.

Think of it this way.
The Greddy turbo is a T06-18g and it runs out of air @ ~7k

ahh, so runs out of air at high rpms. nice to know i can somewhat read it. haha

by the size of it, I don't think it'll work......

ahh that's what my friend thought. he said that if the piston engine size was greater than 2.0 L then it would run out of air at higher rpms. i know it's comparing apples to oranges but the 1.3 L rotary is similar to a ~2.6 L piston engine.
thanks for the info =]

what I was going for is: you get it for free, sell it, use that money for something a bit more suited for the 8

good idea .
that way he doesn't have to reinvent the wheel as well ....

re-inventing the wheel is easy and doesn't require you to pm CRH to ask for his help because you think you might blow something or destroy your car or anything

is this the kind of thing you came up with Taj ?

The exhaust housing is way too restrictive for rotary even with 10.5 hotside.
The compressor's good enough for 400whp when pushed, but won't make as much power on rotary.
It will be worthless and end up causing you alot of pain and regret.
