Well..., tbh, Mazda's already did a great job of shaving weight off the RX-8. There really isn't anything you can take out without removing some comfort.

The rear seats are the first to go if you don't think you'll ever need it. Spare tire kit if you have one, tools, engine cover...

That's about it.

There are a few parts you can drop money on to reduce weight a decent amount (exhaust, wheels, rotors/calipers, battery). However, if you're just looking to remove stuff, you really aren't going to find a whole lot that isn't going to make the interior look like crap or seriously reduce the creature comforts. Pulling the AC out saves a whopping 18 pounds according to TeamRX8 :)

If you want to turn it into a race car, strip the interior bare, and remove anything that isn't required by the regulations for your race division.

FYI, there's a sticky in this sub-forum dedicated to part weights. http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?t=81791

hit the gym.

lightweight exhaust, flywheel, rims, tires, backseats, passenger seat,...

the list goes on, usually, the lighter you make your car the less comfortable it is.

so far i've dropped 32-35lbs off the 8, and its really hard. and my car still looks stock... of course except for the gutted&vented hood and trunk.

all the tiny bits all add up. insulation here and there, rear seat panels, hood/trunk liner, etc.

every other pound gets harder and harder to drop. its up to you if you're up to the challenge.

BTW, a nice tip i can give... or to keep in mind that taking weight at the highest point of the car can contribute to better handling performance.

yeah backseats are usually a first, engine cover, stereo system(if you have one) if you're goin for race car front seat also(passenger that is) then after that you will pretty much have to go to lightweight wheels exhaust, battery, etc
