When i bought my car..it had been excellently maintained...except for the exhaust tips...they were completely black... I used brasso and elbow grease... they look great now.

I have to agree. Nevrdull works great. You might use a few strips if the carbon is really baked on but youll see it getting thinner and smaller every time. Good stuff.

English Custom Hot Chrome ftw.

that stuff is $16 a bottle for something that nevr-dull does just as good for $5.. my previous statement stands.. can we sticky this? i see treads asking about how to clean exhaust tips all the time.. at least in this one there are 2 choices with pics..

i just use the leftover car wash detergent. works every time. why bother with yet another cleaning product? Or sometimes I use the alloy wheel cleaner too. if it is that bad, then I try with Simple Green. So far the car wash detergent works great.

People seem to like both but from the pics I've seen it seems like the English Chrome is a better restorative. It's also a fair amount harsher (wear gloves!), slightly more expensive, and obviously more difficult to actually find. Since a bottle will last me approx. 82 years and 20 cars I'm not really all that concerned about spending the extra $10... YMMV. ;)

If you've got a new exhaust and plan on polishing regularly or are in a hurry and just need something then you should probably go the nevrdull route. However if you have a ton of carbon buildup or haven't polished your tips in years then you might want to go the English route. A bottle will literally last you the life of your car regardless of how often you polish.

I don't think I've seen anyone complain about either product.

Apparently the camera is better than i thought. It shows the scratches you can not see with the eye. I have been using mothers mag and alum polish for years. I had a bike with a polished frame and have tried many differant metal polishes and mothers was always far better. The price is very comparable to neverdull and last just as long to.

I used the wheel polish from GriotsGarage.com three days ago and it worked like a hot dang. I used a cotton terry rag and the polish compound by hand, and got them as shiny as the ones above in about 10 minutes. If I used power tools I would probably have been done in 3.

I have english, and for the outside of the tip (mazdaspeed) It looks brand spanking new afterward, but i still have a bunch of carbon build up on the very tip of the tip that i cant get off after scrubbing for 30 mins on the passenger side...
the odd thing is, it comes off the driver side in ~10 mins or so, but no such luck with the other side. I was thinking of getting a soft tip for the dremel and going at it, but i know chrome finishes are pretty delicate. I need to get my trunk debadged...

DustyRX8

Bought my 05 used in Feb. Car in excellent shape...except for the exhust tips which probably were never cleaned. Both were completely black inside and had caked on carbon under layers of dirt. Exhaust looked like it belonged under a Ford F350 Diesel.
Tried high pressure wash at the car wash...surface dirt came off, but that was it.

Used Simple Green...smells like root beer, but still no change.

Tried Chrome polish from Turtle Wax...no change.

Brasso...starting to see some metal through the carbon, but arm fell off.

Wrights Metal Polish (Wipe on, wipe off)...complete joke.

Eagle One Never Dull....saw a little improvement after 2-3 minutes, encouraged....after about 15 minutes per side, have the factory shine back, even did the inside of the tips.

Now that the chrome is visible again, I used the chrome polish...looks like mirrors. After a week, the small bit of carbon wipes off at the lightest touch.

Never Dull for the win...+ just a little patience and elbow grease.

Windex works well too, just soak it down and scrub it with a plastic bristle wheel brush. Carbon deposits literally drip right off

Mr.&Mrs.Magic
08-29-2008, 04:57 PM
These pics are left with windex and right with mothers mag/alum polish. The windex removed the carbon but did not bring the shine. took about 2 min with mothers but I do not really let the carbon build. If you look closely at the right you can see my yard and the neighbors house.

for the users of nevrdull, it's oily stuff.. if you use a microfiber rag to wipe off after getting the carbon gone, you will have much better results.. there are other polishes here with pics to show how good they work, but honestly nevrdull works just fine.. especially if you have lots of buildup..

Mothers wins!! Today I tried neverdull on the L. tip and mothers on the R. tip. I believe the results are obvious that the mothers tip is far better looking than the neverdull tip. Yes I know the R. tip is in the sun but I do not think it has any bearing on the differance in look. So here's how it went. First off i got the neverdull about 2 weeks ago and got a little excited and went ahead and cleaned the L. tip only to discover I was already dissapointed with the quality and mess that is neverdull. So after waiting 2 weeks to let the carbon and unburnt fuel rebuild on the L. tip. I did the comparrison today. the neverdull was cheaper than mothers as expected but I think the small can of mothers will last a bit longer than the neverdull due to the little bit goes a long way deal. Also you have to tear off a good bit of the never dull so you can keep it in your fingers and not let it drop on the ground and pick up bit of concrete that will scratch your tips. Neverdull is also a mess and leaves behind an oil that is hard to get completly off. Everytime I thought I got it all I would rub another spot and it would leave another oily streak. The mothers on the other hand dries to a powder like wax and comes off clean. It also took off the eewww inside the tips much much faster in other words no elbow grease required. So hands down mothers is far superior to neverdull. Pics are in order for comparison and again L. is neverdull R. is mothers.

Ummm... Which polish? They list about a dozen variants.

Stick with Old English if you can get it or Mothers if you can't. Like Jedi I wash mine almost weekly with soap/water and every month or two apply Old English. It's the best bang for the buck to not only polish your exhaust, remove the carbon build up, and help the bronzing of the tips. Plus it lasts a while. Haven't seen any other that accomplishes all three as well. Tho there are very good arguments that combining two products will get you at least comparable results.

Plus one can of Old English is gonna last you the life of your car.

The luster lace. Duhr. Actually, every one of their product works great (I have wide sized luster lace, sealant, and luster pads). Tested all three, and while its not recommended that you put sealant on a hot surface, the pad and laces work extremely well.

It's almost magic.

You're talking about a ridiculously low price..., chump change really. It's rather pointless to even consider it if you're able to afford a $30,000 car.

I dont know what it is, but im using english custom hot polish and i cant get the carbon/gunk off the rim/edge/tips of the exhaust. Have not even bothered to try getting the inside at ALL. the left side does come a lot cleaner than my right side. I have a mazdaspeed exhaust. The outside of it does look pretty good though.

Last weekend i tried using a felt pad on my dremel and polishing it on max speed (15000 rpm) and all it did was destroy the felt. Whats the secret ? Ive tried rubbing by hand with the english and a microfiber towel for 15-20 mins and see very little progress, and its hot as all hell outside right now.

I use NeverDull and a little elbow grease. I rub About 3-5 minutes on each tip, hehe sounds dirty. Then I leave the NeverDull residue on the tips and I take out my PowerBall, drill and mothers mag and aluminum polish to finish it off. Only take about 1 minute each tip and then wipe of the excess. NeverDull is a good cleaner but does not give you a real shine and mothers gives you a good shine but not the best cleaner. I bought one, wasnt impressed, so I bought another, wasnt impressed, had both so I used both, and it came out much better. Im sure there is a product that does both, but this is the way Im going until I run out of either.

endowdly
06-11-2009, 10:45 AM
^don't think there is a product that does both.

It depends on the material of you tips too. And they aren't aluminum which corrodes terribly. Mine came polished, so I won't need a metal polisher for probably another year.
