The Speedsource RX-8 guys and all the rest will be coming to Mid-Ohio June 21 for a 5 PM race. Last year we had a pretty good showing of RX-8 folks and saw a great race! Who's up for a repeat performance?

Columbus area folks, we can set a meeting point on the north end of town and caravan on up. The rest of you folks we can meet up there.

Come celebrate the first day of summer and cheer the Speedsource guys on to another win!

Details at http://www.grand-am.com/rolex/schedule/event.cfm?eid=14

See you there!

If we get enough, I'd like to think we could get an infield corral. Attendance at these things is usually very low, so maybe. I'll check into it and post back.

Good news! I have confirmed with Mid-Ohio that they will set up an infield parking corral for us. No cost for parking. When you arrive, just follow the signs to infield parking and there will be a corral marked for RX8Club.com

I'd like to give them a semi-accurate count to ensure we have enough room, so please post up even if you're just thinking about coming.

Sounds like it's coming together!

Mickey-D's sounds good to me. I'll post in the Columbus thread to see if we can meet this coming weekend to finalize details.

For me, I'm thinking about a paddock pass. The cheapest way to do it is $30 for the weekend pass, which includes everything. Otherwise, it's $20 for the race on Saturday. These prices are online, before June 18. From experience, earlier is better, as they will mail the tickets to you so you don't have to go through will-call at the track.

Ok I'm in for sure on Saturday. Maybe Sunday as well. Johnnyspeed and I can try to get a few more of the Cleveland 8s down there when we meet up on the 6th.

Apparantly the Daytona prototypes will be there as well. My buddy knows an owner so I may be able to get close to a few of them. If the chance of seeing the speedsource wasn't reason enough to drop in that will be.

Groundrush

My name is Marlon, I plan corral events for Mazdaspeed Motorsports Development, I am also one of the founders of Cleveland6club.com. I plan every Mazda corral from Sebring to Mid-Ohio.

A couple of my members have told me that you guys were having a corral @ Mid-Ohio? We were planning to have one at this event, but see that you have already started one. I have a few questions for the organizer?

1. Do you have an actual space picked out, if you do how many vehicles is it for?

2. Is Mazda USA or Mazdaspeed Motorsports supporting you guys?

3. Has anyone contacted the teams, Speed Source, Hyper Sport, Racers Edge, ROAR Racing?

I would like to join forces and offer the membership a great opportunity. I work very closely with all of the teams above and I work with them on settin gup personal tours of their paddocks, haulers, etc. We have meet and greets, photo ops, autograph sessions, where you do not have to stand in line with the public and wait.

Here are a couple of e mail from teams principals, etc

Hi Marlon,

No problem here. We would be happy to participate like we did at Lime Rock and we can come up with a few “giveaways”.

BTW, great job at Lime Rock and thanks for lunch! Next time I can, I’m going to bring my R1 for your corral J

Jon

Jon is the owner of Racers Edge and is looking forward to the event!!

Here's another:

Thanks Marlon.

Right now we are planning on getting the #60 up to the corral for a meet & greet and to let people sit in the car. It’s our brand new car that we are going to be finishing next week. Plan on us bringing it up after our Qualifying session on Saturday, sometime around 3 pm. It might be possible for us to get it over there after practice on Friday as well so that anyone who is there on Friday can be sure to get their chance to look at it and helping to cut down on any crowd on Saturday. Hopefully this time the steering wheel won’t get stolen out of the extra car.

We have also found a few shirts and hats that we can donate to your cause. I’m not sure what sizes for the shirts off the top of my head though, I will find out later.

Adam

Adam is the owner of ROAR Racing and will haveone of his cars on display at the corral. I have the same commitment from Hyper Sport and SpeedSource, too! Also, I am working with Jim Ryan of Koni-NA and we will have some special things taking place, hot laps in the G8's and more......

We are also holding a raffle for Autism Speaks, you will get a chance to win team shirts, hats, possible "gopher" for a day for the teams, where you can have special pit access and assist the guy.......win some Mazda apparel as well.

Here are some links to pics from Lime Rock....

If you guys woudl like to join forces and make this a very special event, please let me know..so I can let my contacts @ Mazdaspeed Motorsports know what is going on.

Thanks,
Marlon

I would highly recommend teaming up with Cleveland6club. C6C has great working relationships with Mazdaspeed Motorsports and with ALL the teams that race the RX-8 (Hypersort, SpeedSource, Racers Edge, etc) as evidenced by our recent successful Mazdaspeed Shu Go Corral at Lime Rock.

As a result of all the hard work of establishing and fostering these relationships through the years, we were able to provide our corral attendees "up close and personal" access to the cars, drivers, and teams.

You may be able to even sit in the car, depending on the schedule of events. Sylvain usually gives a tour of his hauler, and will answer questions along with David Haskell and Nick Ham. Matt and Marty, the crew chiefs are more than willing to share their knowledge too.

You guys will have a great experience and we can make this an annual event, like we are doing with Lime Rock!

Good luck brownies. She brings them brownies so often that the teams look forward to her brownies. So much so, that I think it's slowly becoming superstition among the various Mazdaspeed Motorsports teams (Tri-Point, Tindol, SpeedSource, etc.).

I was the first one at Lime Rock to set up, and the first thing they wanted to know was when she was coming with the brownies.

Charles and Chip are good friends of ours! My wife is Charles's "personal "

Just to clarify, buying a paddock pass and a general admission ticket will get you access to everything. The best way financially to do this is to buy a weekend general admission pass for $30. This includes a free paddock pass. The price if you buy a Saturday ticket and paddock pass is $33, so you save 3 bucks, and can go all weekend, if you wish.

Mine's ordered - can't wait!

Marlon, if you have any requests for pictures either of the pits or race if you can forward them on to me prior to going. Im planning on taking a couple hundred pictures each day, but if there is something specific someone wants I will make sure I get it.

What catbacks are you all running? I'm curious to know what I can listen too on June 21st. Also, if anyone's intersted, I'm selling my non-res midpipe that I just bought. It has about 100 miles on it and I'll bring it down if someone wants it for $160.

Marlon and/ or Jeff,

Are the things that you are pulling together for us "in place" of the paddock pass? Therefore do we need to still purchase a paddock pass for Sat.?

....and Sat. will be the only day that I'll be attending so my total cost would be $20.

Thanks in advance.

Anthony,

You need the paddock pass. The best option is the full weekend ticket for 30 bucks, becuase it includes the paddock pass. Otherwise, it's 20 for Saturday plus 13 for the paddock pass.

Hope that's more clear.

The 69 Speedsource took the checker today tho the 70 lost points overall. Guess they had to deal with a bad alternator and damage from the previous week but still managed to finish 7th. Loved watching the rx-8 tearing up the Pontiacs on the straights. Always fun seeing what a crazy tuned rx8 can do. :)

Should be a great setup for the 21st. Makes it even more exciting.

No the #70 had to deal with damage from the previous practice session. Had major damage to the front left suspension, they got it back together and started from the pit. Very good finish either way!

Anyways, looks to be a great match up on the 22nd during the KONI race! 9 RX-8's entered last I checked! Hopefully, our cars will be in the lead and bring us win this time...

You have your credentials, so you're good to go, like me!

I was at the races this weekend, it was a great weekend overal, but we did hit a few bumps in the road. It was true that, the #70 car was hit and sustained a lot of front end damage, along with suspension work! They had to start at the back of the field and they did get to the front eventually, ( we had 3 RX-8's) running 1, 2 & 3 early on, but mechanical issues slowed the Racers Edge car and Hyper Sport was taken out on the first lap of the race, but the had to fabricate a shock, but they got back into race and put forth a great effort.

If you guys want, you should bring out your better half to the event, as I have it on good authority, that Patrick Dempsey will be racing that weekend. I am sure you are wondering on who's authority, well Patrick's himself!

Here is a pick with Patrick signing posters for me...

He signed a rotor for me...I'll bring it with me, along with my SpeedSource signed rotor and maybe if someone wants to take a very valuable piece of SpeedSource memorabilia off my hands...the autographed rear door of the #70 from last year's Sunchaser 1000 at Miller!!!

If my buddy drives he'll be in a mini so it won't be hard. Then again if he came down in the Vette he raced at the Cleveland Grand Prix vette challenge 2 years ago he'd probably 'do' something about it on the track. ;)

Marlon is currently confirming the schedules with the teams. For me, my wife has an early morning function, so we will not be able to leave Hilliard until about noon. That would put us up there about 1:30, which should be ok given a 5:00 race time. If folks want to go up earlier, by all means have at it. You had mentioned hooking up at the Rt 36 exit. Do you still want to do that? Any particular place and time in mind?

I'm giving more consideration to going up Friday afternoon to see some practice and qualifying. Anybody interested?

First we need to decide if we want to sit down or do fast food.

Sit down options are Bob Evans, Cracker Barrel or Waffle House. Haven't been to a Cracker Barrel in years so I'd be up for that or the always satisfying Bobby E's.

Fast food options are standard issue: McDonald's, Burger King, Taco Bell, White Castle, Wendy's?, Arby's? etc.

I'm easily pleased so if you have a hunger for one in particular I'll probably be down for it.

Beth,

There is no more opportunity for advance tickets, but you can easily buy tickets at the gate on Saturday. Make sure you get a paddock pass as well. Once you are in, follow the signs for infield parking and there should be a sign for "RX-8Club.com" Depending on when you arrive, you should see several 8s there.

Once parked, look around for tents with Mazda/Mazdaspeed banners on them - you should find some friendly people there!

Stay tuned to this thread for more info...feel free to PM me if you need help.

Thanks to all that came out, the teams really appreciated and look forward to us coming back next year. I hope everyone got their picture or an autograph from Patrick, as he asked me if all of us were taken care of.

Jeff, did your wife get a picture and or an autograph? Let me know if she did not and I will take care of it for her. We are working on a few other things for this year and I will keep you guys informed.

Marlon

Marlon,

Unfortunately, no. We slid down to his trailer while you were delivering brownies and got this shot, but there was no time for autographs as he was off to the driver's meeting. Maybe next time...

^Oh man, too bad you didn't get to meet him. We went down to Hypersport to introduce him to our new Crew Chief and his family. Patrick drove for us at the 6 hr VIR race last year...I was a little surprised that he remembered me. Here are some pics I got of him when I was down visiting their pit stall during the race and a few after the race:

I just want to get my shout out to Marlon!!!

Thanks so much Bro!! I really appreciated the access and the help obtaining autographs for my panoramic photos!!

Sylvain and the Speedsource guys went out of their way to make sure I had everything signed and made sure we got shirts and hats!! Sylvain Tremblay is the MAN!! His entire staff and crew were so warm and welcoming!! When a tough as nail race car driver puts his arm around you, you know your not just another paddock hound. Thanks Sylvain!!!

Want to thank the Roar guys too!! Very generous with their time. When I was only able to get 3 of the drivers to sign my panoramic with the primary and secondary cars they were still accessible post race and made sure that Chip was able to sign the photo as well. Marlon you were a great help in getting these autographs as well!!

I was also able to get Stewart of the Sunlight Silver BMR car to sign as well. Also a nice guy and very excited to see the photo and sign it! Very friendly as well!!

Over all I had an extremely amazing time at the races!! Saturday and Sunday ROCKED!!

Oh yeah, a special thanks to Mike aka "Tireman"!! Thanks so much for the Pirelli hospitality passes!! That tent and flat panel LCD tv came in great during the hour and a half downpour!!!!!! Heck the BBQ and drinks were not half bad either!! Thanks Mike and Mary!!! It was great meeting you both!!

Thanks Jeff for all you did too!! Too bad Ra and Anthony bounced before I had a chance to say hey. Let me know when we are getting together for lunch or drive.

Again, Thanks Marlon!!!
God Bless Everyone!!

It is my pleasure, we try to get to everybody we can, but sometimes things get a bit crazy! All of the Mazda teams are great, the BMR guys are really nice as well, as I let them know that you guys would be coming by their paddock to visit.

The teams appreciate Mazda owners stopping by, this gets the drivers pumped up as well as the crew, they want to do well for us as wel as themselves! This is with every team that competes in any series.

Tri-Point, Tindol and Horton Motorsports, Mazda 6's to B-K Motorports and the ALMS P2 car to all of the MX-5 cup guys and gals, they appreciate our support! What Lauri and I try to do is get owners out to these events, where you can get up close and personal with the teams. The series that Mazda competes in, whether its the SWC, ALMS, MX-5 Cup, Grand Am or Koni Challenge, you can have the same access to all fo the teams.

We hope to see all of you again @ Mid-Ohio next month as Tindol Motorsports goes for their 3rd win in a row, as we try to catch Acura for the Manufacturers Championship, we're only 10 points back...

So whenever you see an event where Mazda is competing, go out and support them! As our teams have the best people and obviously the best cars!

Well...the only person that I never did hear back from now was Marlon and I'm assuming he really doesn't care. Marlon, if you object, off the pictures come. But here are pictures from Sat and Sun...255 in all. No pictures from the Sat race though...stupid rain. :(
