Hey just wanted to inquire......

when I purchased my '06 RX8 back in September 2006, I noticed that it came with a box set of OEM spark plugs. Did any of you guys also get an extra set of plugs when you bought your 8?

Now that I already hit my 30K mark on my 8, I'm thinking of replacing my current plugs and use those extra ones I got. Saves me money on buying new plugs. Or if you've got different opinions on the OEM plugs, let me know too since I'm also contemplating on just buying a new set (the good aftermarket ones of course).

So it's either buy new ones (aftermarket) or just use the extra ones I got (OEM)?

Your thoughts, please?

those should have been installed when it was sold to u. but since u still have em, go ahead and use em.

I got an extra set of plugs with mine. The car was on the showroom floor, so I suspect they had done the PDI for that and kept these in reserve in case they wound up putting it back in the storage lot. Nice of them to give me the plugs instead of keeping them for their own stock. I also got a free set of door edge guards from Zoomy's time in the showroom.

Proxi - my understanding is that the OEM plugs are the good ones. Posts I see here are mostly focused on two things. One is getting those same plugs from sparkplugs.com for a lot less than dealer prices. The other is on using RX7 plugs, which are a lot cheaper but don't last as long.

The vehicle is delivered with different plugs than what you run with.

When you purchase the car, they are supposed to put them in. Until then, they may have been storing them in the glove box. My dealership had me come back in cuz they forgot to do the plug trade.

No harm, but I am amazed they made it this long.

Different in what way? I had an extra set in my glove box as well. Is it gonna hurt my 06 Shinka? :banghead:

They are better for short trips. Like on a dealership lot.

They are the delivery plugs.

I just bought an '08 40th Annniversary Edition on Saturday, and there were 2 spark plugs and a wheel lock set (sort of) in the glove box. I meant to ask about the extra plugs when I had the car at the dealership yesterday for an accessory installation, but I forgot. I've never gotten spare parts with a car before, so I was curious, but it never occurred to me that maybe they were supposed to have been put on the car! That said, if the delivery plugs won't hurt anything I'll just keep 'em on there and hold on to the others as replacements.

EDIT: The plugs in my glove box aren't OEM; they're NGK. Is that good/bad?

Yeah, I've been running whatever plugs that were in my 8 when I got it from the dealer back in Sept. 2006. Never had any ignition problems with the car whatsoever. And now that I've hit my 30K mileage, my 8 still runs as good as it did when I first got it brand new. I'll be purchasing a set of new ignition wires from Racing Beat though when I change my current plugs with the extra ones I got.

hmm, u're @ 30K, when you do your plugs, I suggest you to buy a set of new coils and change it as well.

The OEM plugs are NGK. That's the brand of plugs Mazda uses on the 8, and that's the one I got extra from the dealer. So you should be good with the ones you have.

Here's whats printed on the box that I have:

NGK: RE7C-L (x2), RE9B-T (x2)
1 set

The OEM plugs are NGK. That's the brand of plugs Mazda uses on the 8Aaaah, now I see! I was thinking that your box maybe said "Mazda." Thanks. :)

im at 37k+ and i have the original plugs with the mazsport ignition.

I bought my o6 in january and it had a set in the glove box. I asked Chantel at Hiley Mazda in Arlington if they were still good since they had been there so long. She said they would be fine and didn't say anything about how they should have been switched.

HMMM Suspicious!

I wonder if they would help the car now.
