Wouldn't the wheel offset be important in determining this?

I am currently running 255/35/18s on the stock wheels.

It's all in the rims ...width and offset determine the position of the tire.....you can fit 275's on all 4 corners.

What size are the rims...

i have an 8 inch rim w/ a +48 offset may be 8.5 cant remember

8.5 will be fine.. 8 will work, but not as nice.. offset is perfect.

275's :Eyecrazy: how about on 18X8.5 +44? I would love to get 275's all around!

Swoope....Should have told him the tires will fit....just not on 8.5" rims ;) properly anyway....

You should be up in the 9-9.5" wide wheels for tires that size

The 275 tires fit nice on a 9.5" rim in the 40-45 offset range

oh thanks. So it's just the 8.5 in that's the trouble? Will 265's fit?

why have such meaty tires on your car? a little bigger than stock is nice, but why make it look like it's ready for the drag strip?

dannobre

Cause it's mostly a track car :)

true, but pushing it to 275 all around....does that make much of a difference? I have no idea cuz I've never tracked my car. Enlighten me :)

Yes.....

More rubber = more traction ( simplistically anyway )

so do you think 265's will fit on 8.5's?

My car i will track but i mostly race it on the drag strip. im a drag guy and just because my 8 isnt *designed* to drag thats what im making it to do, i guess im the outcast. So thats why i want wide as tires as i can get.

Not properly.....It's been known to be done by Autocrossers...I think some have stuffed 285 Hoosiers on the stock 8" rims :Eyecrazy:

stiffer springs could help with the rubbing.

you dont mention the tire, but it is doable.

people scoffed at my 245 40 18 on 7.5" wheels.. curb rash does not happen.. bonus.

What would be the widest I could go on a 8.5 wheel then, 255? That seems odd. if we can fit a 245 on our 8 inch wheel (stock) why can't we fit a 265 on an 8.5 inch wheel?

Bob

you might be able to. depends on the tire, the sidewall and the talent of the installer.. but sometimes it is not the thing to do..

lots of autoxers stuff 275s on a 8 inch rim, but that has nothing to do with the street..
