Where did you ge them from? HighRev'n 10-07-2003, 06:25 PM Let me guess. Spraypaint? Tin foil? RX-8 2004 10-07-2003, 06:29 PM Chrome Bumper Paint and brushed on .... MyRxBad 10-08-2003, 09:30 AM Post some close ups in focus. RX-8 2004 10-08-2003, 10:29 AM I can post close ups but carmera is auto focus and they are blurred too ...You think these are blurred you should see the close-up LOL That is why I did not post them first. I will try to get some better pics of them over the weekend. Anyway $111 to $139 to have Rotary Accents and get the appearence ... or Less than $3 dollars for some Chrome Bumper Paint and get the same appearence ... think about it ... how many people are gonna get down that close to see if they are painted or polished aluminium? Mazda RIPPED YOU OFF on these for sure. If, you bought them. Most likely it cost them less than 5 dollars a piece to mass manufacture them. (Punched out on a machine in large quanities) And I am gussing less than $10 on the stakes for mass production. mikeb 10-08-2003, 06:35 PM good for you as long as your happy myrx8 10-11-2003, 10:22 AM Great idea. I think I may try it to see what it looks like. If I don't like it, I can always buy the accents from Mazda and cover up my mistake. Thanks, BTW - Are you sure you can't get any close ups? Magnesium 10-11-2003, 02:33 PM From what I remember about that chrome paint, is it looks good for a day or two, then is starts dulling out. Am I not correct in that assumption? mikeb 10-11-2003, 05:40 PM It may dull but you can always repaint Ned M 10-13-2003, 03:57 PM Heck, when I've spent $33k on the car, a $100 one way or the other seems insignificant. I wouldn't buy my wife a genuine Diamelle, either. At any rate if you're pleased with it, that's the most important thing. myrx8 10-13-2003, 10:39 PM I am going to try it somewhere underneath the car to see if it really starts to dull. I mean come on, 3 bucks compared to 65-85. myrx8 10-13-2003, 10:40 PM Originally posted by Ned M Heck, when I've spent $33k on the car, a $100 one way or the other seems insignificant. Need Black to cover up the mistakes. But, if your hand is real steady you won't need the Black Paint. Good Luck!! You should have enough to paint the Rotors too from the one bottle. I already had my rotors painted. More than enough left over. myrx8 10-15-2003, 09:19 PM Looks great with the close ups Omicron 10-18-2003, 06:06 PM So how is the rotary part of the paint holding up? Inquiring minds want to know... JeRKy 8 Owner 10-19-2003, 03:48 AM You painted the grille on theback of the Rx8 too?? Thatlooks kind of weird but only cause Im looking at it too close up. You did a very clean job though so goodwork man! Do youhave a pic of the back of the car with the grille painted that isnt as close so I can see whatit looks like if I saw it from a few feet away? RX-8 2004 10-19-2003, 04:42 PM Here is a full veiw thread where you can see more .. http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?threadid=12722 As for holding up ... Paint is holding up very well. I even Power Washed it three times and still looks freshly done. Omicron 10-19-2003, 08:13 PM That's it, I'm there! Thanks. r0tor 11-03-2003, 06:23 PM I just got my front polished rotary symbol in the mail (thanks Trussville :p ) and was reading the installation directions and one of the steps is different depending on if you have the appearance package or not. Can someone check out there car if they have both of these things installed and see if there would be any reason that if I would install the rotary symbol now, I couldn't install the front air dam later?? RX-Nut 11-03-2003, 06:49 PM Can you scan the instructions? I'm curious on how to install. Looking to pick them up too now that they're in stock. tpryor 11-04-2003, 06:09 AM Originally posted by pr0ber I just got my front polished rotary symbol in the mail (thanks Trussville :p ) and was reading the installation directions and one of the steps is different depending on if you have the appearance package or not. THIS, I can answer! I had ordered the appearance package with the car, but it was installed later, by the dealer. So, I have seen the stock piece and the front air dam piece. There is no reason you could not install the air dam later, the problem is you would have to purchase another polished accent for the front. The rotor symbol (where you installed the polished accent) is part of the front assembly, and is replaced entirely by the air dam installation (the new rotor piece will be colored to match the body). Look at the pics (link is in the signature) of my car, and you can see the transition to the air dam and what the new piece looks like (before the addition of the polished accent - I haven't installed it yet). You may like it painted. r0tor 11-05-2003, 02:16 PM Originally posted by tpryor THIS, I can answer! I had ordered the appearance package with the car, but it was installed later, by the dealer. Wipe on the "primer" they give you. Remove the backing on the 4 sticky strips on the backside of the symbol and stick the symbol on the car. Lastly there are 2 little screws you screw in on the inside sides of the symbol to further secure it and your done. klegg 11-06-2003, 10:29 AM Originally posted by pr0ber I don't have a scanner... its real easy to install them. I love this site...mine came in today, and I was wondering if they were hard to put on..thanks guy! richard Giz 11-07-2003, 06:04 AM I am from the UK and I have imported from Japan the Stakes and front Rotary crest. Trouble is the instructions are in Japanese. Would one of you guys who has done a self-install be able to post a set of the English instructions for these items? Also any tips or guidence would be appreciated. Cheers Rich Racer X-8 11-07-2003, 06:18 AM I'm not trying to be smart, but please use the search function. I know the strakes install topic has been worn out long ago. There are many posts on the rotary accents as well...no need to go thru it all over again. btw, real glad to hear y'all are finally getting your 8's over the pond. Finally getting to these topics, huh? Those threads are not closed, so a new post can bring them back to the front page, if you have anything further to discuss after reviewing them. matt 11-07-2003, 09:01 AM . richard Giz 11-07-2003, 10:30 AM Thank you for your helpful response Matt - NOT I did try a search, but there weren't any specific instructions to be found (and I can't read the Japanese one I have).- May be I'm not doing the search right. That's why I thought I'd ask May be I'll think twice in future - to save getting shot down. Rich Chrisbert 11-07-2003, 12:08 PM You'll get that alot round here. Possible to ask them to translate them.....? We translate the not so obvious instructions unless otherwise specified. RX-GR8 11-10-2003, 10:52 AM Originally posted by mikeb sweet , did you use your mazda debit no i used the mazda debit for a down payment on a new couch and love seat for our sunroom which is being renovated. i bought the strakes with birthday money. Zonker04 11-10-2003, 06:26 PM My car came with "chrome" front and rear rotary symbols, i.e., it has the Rotary Accent Package. I kinda like the one in front, but the one in back seems to highlight the lower black area under my bumper and I'm not sure it's flattering; maybe it makes the back end look too humped up. I may PhotoShop it and try blacking the symbol out to see if it looks better without the accent; if so, then maybe I'll remove the accent. Anyone removed these trim pieces? Was the black plastic under them damaged at all by the "primer" on them? TIA. my10ae 11-10-2003, 08:28 PM Hi: If you are willing to sell the rear rotor accent, I'd be interested. Let me know. Thanks, Kevin Gyro 11-10-2003, 08:30 PM aarrgg...you beat me to it Kev. :D Zonker04 11-10-2003, 11:50 PM I'll admit it: I was hoping to get some offers on it. Let me dig further into this possibility first and I'll give you guys, in the order you posted, a fair price if I decide not to keep it. Thanks. huhsler 11-24-2003, 08:52 AM <donning my asbestos underwear> Has anyone ever considered using Testor's acrylic paint to simply paint their front and rear rotary emblems silver, instead of buying the polished aluminum accents? It's a difference between $110 and $2. Just a thought. Omicron 11-24-2003, 11:47 AM Yep, it's been done and discussed in detail. Check out this thread: http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=12366 huhsler 11-24-2003, 01:16 PM Check. I guess I searched on the wrong key words. Thanks! Omicron 11-24-2003, 11:05 PM You bet. MEGAREDS 11-26-2003, 12:23 AM Here's a pic of the strakes from Mazdamatrix: http://www.mazdatrix.com/8pics/8exterior/strakes1b.jpg MrWigggles 11-26-2003, 03:50 AM Originally posted by mikeb thank god someone helped him the strakes come with instructions His are in Japanese and the instructions tell you to use the wrong hole anyway. -Mr. Wigggles success07 11-26-2003, 09:28 AM Thanks for the install tips you guys but I have a question to those who have strakes: I purchased my strakes from the dealer and as I was about to install them I noticed that a couple of them had some imperfections. They weren't nicks, per say, but pealing of some kind. I tried to buff them out but the effort was in vain. I was really bummed cause I had waited so long for them but refused to spend $200 on something that had these "marks". Probably not noticeable to the rest of the world but I would know that they were there and it would drive me crazy. I have another set on order but basically, I just wanted to know if I should expect this from the product or wait till I find a set where all four are perfect. Thanks in advance for the info. oosik 11-26-2003, 11:42 AM sounds like the chrome chipping/peeling off.....? if that's the case, i'd try to get them replaced if it really bothers you. MadMAX 11-26-2003, 10:55 PM The dealer should have picked that up before he delivered them IMO... tkemory 12-08-2003, 12:10 PM This part is around $77 brand new, so I guess it depends on how well you can remove it from the car. pauleta 12-16-2003, 01:00 PM Is it just held on with tape and can it come off easily? A dealer here has a returned 8 with the front and rear accents, I was going to ask if I could buy them at a discount. |
