I am curious how much "reliable" power I can squeeze from the GReddy turbo.

I have the upgraded Mazsport ignition solution and I would get bigger fuel injectors so all of my bases would be covered to max this turbo out.

It's possible to go over 300 with the greddy turbo, but it's really not streetable at that point. The greddy power tops off in the 270-280 range for almost everyone. The turbo is so peaky that it's easy to get surging and the unit runs out of air around 7k rpm.

Basically it's a crap fit for the RX-8 unless you stick with 6 psi and use it as it was intended.

I always recommend getting the MazdaManiac turbo upgrade, it will typically make approx +40 whp and +40 rwtq at the same psi level that you run your greddy kit at, and the charge temps are much lower, meaning you can raise the boost levels even higher.

That's what I was afraid of.

The MM turbo upgrade is on my list of future upgrades but I told myself that I would take the plunge once the GReddy turbo dies on me.

Then don't worry about it

The greddy turbo almost never lasts longer than 12k miles before it needs to be rebuilt. Journal bearing turbo that is cooled by oil = worthless.

That's great news! lol

I have put exactly 20,000km (12,430 miles) on the turbo kit so I am due to replace it very soon.

heh. If I ever get the accessport fuel 1.5 afr richer, I'll be heading to the dyno to get some numbers for 11 psi.

We should be able to do 13 and maybe 14 psi on 93 octane.

I don't want to guess at the numbers, but if you look at my old dyno chart, I believe I posted a chart with boost controller off (6 psi) and one with it on (9 psi) so you can directly compare what +3 psi did for power levels.

dont take any value in this, its only my opinion and my math(that was constantly fucked up ) that leads to these numbers.....

i wont be surprised at all if the MM upgrade will push out to 370-380 at the wheel, just depends on how far your willing to push it

this turbo (GT3071R) on other vehicles can easily push 400 whp. It's a common upgrade for MS3 and MS6, SRT4's, etc. because of this turbo's great characteristics.

Not apples to apples, but the power is there if we can boost high enough.

amazingly, it spools every bit as fast as the smaller greddy, but has none of the side effects like random surging.

I love your sig.

You won't get no stinkin' 400 WHP on California faux 91 octane.

The turbo Jeff is using will flow over 400-rwhp on the Renesis.....

With a bigger w/g actuator the GReddy CAN make more power, in the 310-rwhp range if not more, but it's certainly not reliable (turbocharger unit itself, that is, the motor should be fine if your tuning is good)

I'm going to have to disagree with you on that last point ... the greddy can technically push 310 whp, however the boost levels required to do it will cause the charge temps to be very high, which increases the chances of detonation. So good tuning or not, it's not a safe setup!

Ew, that would be messy!

I think Jeff should have T-shirts made with the Satan's Hairdryer logo on them, and give them away to purchasers of his kit. I will buy one for sure next year if I get a free t-shirt...

That's why I said it wouldn't be reliable

What is the highest boost I can run on stock fuel system? I am going to take the car to the drag strip tomorrow.

The new map Jeff sent me is pretty damn good.

My AFR are in the high 11's to low 12's @ 9psi.

A while back Manual in PR modified the Greddy Turbo (welded the internal wastegate shut & put on an external one) & boosted right to the edge for the stock turbo. His findings were that at around 12 psi, he was getting to about 310 whp, but above that it was basically becoming a heat sink, and that was it. And that was even with a modified setup.

Trap speed was actually 97mph.

I either have issues with my coils or I have a clogged cat.
