i am more interested in getting the 10w7 but have found a cheap w6v2. caqn someone please give me some input. will the single 10" w6v2 be enough or will i regret not getting the 10w7. will the 10w7 be too much, i like my ears and don't want to go deaf but like a hard hitting sub

if you power the 10x6's properly and give them a good enclosure, they'll hit pretty damn hard

i already got a jl 500/1 amp that i'm planning on using. also probably going to put them in a small ported box.

I went with two JL10w6's and do thos badboys ever hit hard! I'm sure 1 would have been sufficient but figured if I was going to throw out the Bose system, I might as well go ALL out.

Nice! i would love to do something like that however i live out of the country and will prob sell the car in a year or two before going home. i'm just looking for something small that hits so i can easily take it out a put it in my car at home.

get a box like the one I used, hook it up to the JL amp you already have, and begin pissing off the neighbors. :rock:

I was changing subs every 6mos or so before I got my 10w7. 5 years or so later, I still have the same sub. I could have had the w6v2, but I would have moved on anyway...so I went big. I don't like to compromise sq though.

I've never auditioned the w6v2, so I'm not saying it's a no. It has great reviews and is priced a little lower, but it would always leave me wondering if I didn't have the best. The w7 is a heavy beast and needs a very solid box to avoid rattles, so be aware of that as well. Ported blows sealed out of the water with regards to both sq and spl if the box is built properly. I've tried several different configurations (none in the 8) and properly ported wins out every time.

I was speaking of the w7 specifically, not in general. Also, by ported, I should have been more specific. I did not mean that any ported box at any tuning frequency would sound better than a sealed box. A low tuning frequency in a properly built box with the right volume gave me better sound in my GP. This was paired with a 3way comp set with 7's in the doors and mids/tweets in the kicks. The sealed boxes sounded nice, but lacked the impact across the board that the ported box gave. Since there is very little music below 30hz, a box tuned to 28hz doesn't leave you high and dry when the music drops. System tuning is important to make this work as well. I low passed my sub at 65hz with the midbass playing down to 40hz.

I had entirely different results with my former 15L7 and 10w0, but similar results with my IDQ15v2.

you can't just drop any sub in a ported box and expect it to perform well. It takes the right sub in the right box with the right system tuning for it to work. The blanket statement that ported boxes don't sound as good as sealed boxes is incorrect, but a good rule of thumb for a noob.

oh, CA&E said that the w6v2 was the best sounding 12" sub they tested when it first came out. I don't think they put it up against its big brother at that point, but that's a good selling point IMO.
