View Full Version : alarm that comes with the rx8, and after market remote start energie 11-03-2003, 06:16 PM Hi there, Does anyone know if it is possible to add a remote start module to our factory alarm? en. RX-Nut 11-03-2003, 07:38 PM Inquiring Minds Want To Know. I'm curious too. I'm a newb to car alarms.. How does a remote engine start work for manual trannys.. especially for those who like to leave their car in 1st for "roll" protection? panda 11-03-2003, 08:07 PM you have to bypass the clutch so that the car will start without the clutch being pressed, you will have to sacrifice parking in 1st because of this, and you can also hook it up to the handbrake so that it will not start unless the handbrake is up, and if it is let down the remote start will shut off, the same with the clutch being depressed, this is a very good security measure...... i hope i have it right! andrew lunchbox348 11-03-2003, 08:15 PM well for starters it is illegal to install a remote start in a car with a manuel tranny, on top of it is not recommended to install any after market parts on a car with a can network system harwax 11-03-2003, 09:30 PM What is a "can network system" and 2nd question-can I have an aftermarket remote start installed on my automatic rx-8 and not void warranty. My dealer wants about $ 800.00 (he says he also has to upgrade alarm system). lunchbox348 11-03-2003, 10:44 PM well a can system is like a network less wires more components Cwsmith 11-04-2003, 12:41 AM Originally posted by lunchbox348 well for starters it is illegal to install a remote start in a car with a manuel tranny, on top of it is not recommended to install any after market parts on a car with a can network system Well it may be illgeal to install a starter in a manual car where you live but that is by no means true here in Canada, Walmart sells the units for self installation Nation wide. And you can go almost anywhere and have one installed for you, if you aren't hands-on. Note: PANDA you are correct about the clutch and e-brake. the clutch is bypassed and the e-brake MUST be on and the car must be left in neutral. energie 11-04-2003, 02:27 AM i was told by a few installer in Vancouver that installing remote start is illegal on manual cars. however with that said, once you get into the habit of putting it in neutral when parked, it is awesome. i had it in my previous cars. I am just curious, since our alarm is already quite good, i am hoping to get away with adding a remote start module to the existing alarm. is that possible? harwax, would you mind expanding more on the "can network" stuff? thanks in advance! harwax 11-04-2003, 07:23 AM Energie, The person to ask is lunchbox348 (2 posts above my original post). I asked the same question. Harwax lunchbox348 11-04-2003, 08:54 AM well my advice is that if you are that unfamiliar with a cars system then i would not go messing with it. as for any ? on the can system go buy a shop manuel, and any good mazda tech will rip any after market item out if it is seen since mazda has a problem with aftermarket items. |
