View Full Version : ZOOMBY'S NEW STORMY BLUE RX8'S CUSTOM INTERIOR (piks inside)

Hi All :) ,

I did a few things differently, upon buying my second rx8 and spent a lil bit on the interior  this time. I Purchased a new Stormy Blue RX8, and was not too keen on the leather options provided by mazda. So I had custom interior done, on my car, which is Black with blue inserts and Blue stitching around the seats. Doors + steering wheel and the gear shift was also completed.

Although I had to wait that extra time for it to be completed, but I am very happy with the result. I had the work completed thru mazda, although thru a profesional upholstery workshop who was one of only a couple who are certified to upholster seats with airbags(tested and certified etc), well here in Sydney Australia anyway.

I have posted a couple of piks here  , oooh and yes more mods in the future are planned, eg coilovers/new rims/turbo/b-kit :) ...but for now this is what it looks like..

see ya,

hope like it.

Very nice. It just upsets me that Mazda offers so few choices for color... that an owner had to pay a lot of extra money to get leather in a matching color. I mean, it looks outstanding, but that's nothing "crazy" or "unreasonable" or anything that would REQUIRE a third-party professional to do. Mazda should offer that.....You know what I mean?

Dude, they totally messed your car up with that interior. They put steering wheel on the wrong side!

But seriously, Looks awesome, except maybe for the shift boot, but I bet It'd grow on me if I saw it in person.

thanks buddy, and yeah tell me bout it lol. I actually bought the leather pack(all black), and had it stripped, then a darker black used with the blue inserts  ...and the mazda dealer said, u want to do what?? haha...anyway I wasnt keen on jus black or black and red or the cloth pack, or ltd editons....but yeah i know what u mean, it wouldnt be that hard to provide it as an option to match the colour of each 8....im sure there would be many other owners wishing they had the choice.

thanks mate, i guess everyone would have a different preference. It took me a hours trying to work out which blue to use lol... I had all these different shades of blue in front of me and even had to back once haha...but i ended up chosing this blue, as darker blues would blend a little too much with the awsum stormy blue colour...but i wanted it to stand out a little too  . thanks for ur comment :)

haha yeah we seem to have that problem, with every car here in Australia haha :p: ...

thanks buddy, I actually went from getting the shift boot all black with blue stitching to having it all the same colour blue, with the normal gear nob...So many choices that i had infront me lol, hence why it took me so long to get my car rite, the way i wanted it.... and eventually decided to get it all done, to give a lil colour to that area, in the car too....if ur eva down under, ur welcome to have a look :) .

thanks alot champ :) , well the mats are a mazda option i believe...and actually theres have been a bit of discussions about mats in the oz forum here...not sure if these are the same ones there talking bout, but i think som1 said there about $200AUD bucks a set...plz dont quote me lol, as i didnt pay extra....as Mazda decided to chuck them in, when i went to all trouble getting my interior done  . Having said that my previous VR 8, had the same mats except with red around the in side of the rotor (if u know what i mean).

haha np, i could not agree with u more...I had quite a long chat to the saleman and then the manager, outlining what I planned to do, to there amazement :Eyecrazy: ...there responses were geez u sure u want to pay extra??, and do all that, when u already have a few options lol....

And then even they were highly impressed when it was finished and wanted to use my car for couple of extra days, to show to potential customers....lol although honoured, i rejected that :icon_no2: due to the time i already had to wait for my car....and plus I didnt want my car used as a demo either ...

Gday buddy :) , not exactly sure from where u are from, but im from Sydney Australia...so we mite be talking the wrong dollars  .... Anyway it set me back about close too $3,200.00 Aussie dollars....but u probably find its probably cheaper in the US, with more more workshops capable of completing it properly(more population= more competition)...some of the guys on here maybe able to direct u to the rite place, im sure...if ur sydney, then drop us a pm.

Anyway from my research, I found that finding someone that is certified and coducted tests, for upholstering seats with airbags is a must :Eyecrazy: ...as u don't want to be goin cheap, if ur airbag isnt goin to work :icon_no2: if u know what i mean... and yeah ur local mazda dealer should know of some...as im sure they get a few requests like this...

the rear door trim has two screws in the handle(handle pops off with force), one screw in the door handle bezel, and a clip at the top side thats not connected to the car that you have to slide the whole panel once you break it mostly free inward toward the side that is connected to the car. Hope thats not too confusing!

Looks great, however for future reference the multiquote feature on everyones post is much easier to use than making 30 replies at the same time. Just a suggestion unless your just boosting your post count :P

Two Thumbs up...

One question however? Do all aussie cars have the Ebrake on the right side of the tunnel? It seems like that is between the driver and the stick, and therefore uncomfortable, I'd think they'd pretty much mirror the interior...

As inspired by ZOOMBY, here are the pics of my personal leather trim job.

As its the first time I have done this myself. There are little area's that could have been better but its hard to spot as tested by the wife & friends who struggled to find the imperfections. However, when you do it yourself you know where they are.

Haven't done the seats. I'm no fool & wont try. The doors are what was desired & am happy with the results. So here they in both finished & work-in-progress condition.

Thanks to the hints on the rear door trim removal. I down loaded the workshop manual & found the missing clue. "Handles have covers that pop off".

I'll get some more pics up later. Am sure everyone gets the picture. Its not a pro job but its cost me under $200 & is genuine leather hide. So I'm gooing to call it a "Value for money" job

The seats are the stock leather ones but it seems the previous owner had black leather seats originally and the red seats were swapped in.
I think if you have stock red leather seats, the door panel inserts should also be red. Looks like those were not swapped together with the seats.
