Drove down to Phoenix this past weekend for 2 trackdays at PIR.
While down there I noticed that i get a bit of a clunk noise and hear some inside wheel spin when I do any slow speed maneuvering around a parking lot. Seems to happen especially after reversing out of parking spot. Not sure if it's always been doing it but I don't remember it being as pronounced. I have been driving in snow for the past 2 months so I bet the wheel spin wasn't as apparent as it was when i was on some clean roads in PHX.
I have 18k miles on the car. Figured it's about time to replace the differential fluid especially after doing a couple track days. Diff seemed to be working fine at the track, but I'm sure my power of perception isn't perfect. Anyone else have this problem - is it normal for an LSD?

hmmm, binding friction plates? dunno, but that'll be my guess.

Does the klunk happen once, or more than once? The ABS self test takes place just after you start moving, so you should have a single klunk normally.

Clunk will happen once whenever I make a slow turn. Don't have to shut the car on and off. I think.....
I'm back in Flagstaff now and we got 18" of snow sunday night. Probably won't be able to check for sure for a little while.

This sort of thing happened to me, three times in 2 days, right around the time when it had gotten freakishly cold for a little bit here in new york (down to ~8 degrees F for about 2 days). A clunking sound when reversing (and turning) slowely, sounded like it came from the rear wheels. It only happened once each warmup cycle (meaning it happened once as I backed out of the driveway to go to work, and once again as I left work and the car was cold again.)
My memory is fuzzy, but I remember someone making another post about a similar thing, and I remember it being related to cold weather and during slow reversing.
Any other experiences???

I replaced my diff fluid with Redline
how could this be related to DSC when going 3mph?

Makes sense....although I dont understand how some relatively sticky gear oil could result in a "clunking" noise.....but really, i believe you, mostly cause it hasn't happened since :eyetwitch

We don't have friction plates in our diff. We have have gears in our Torsens.
It's only real similarity with a Torsen is that it's a torque sensing type of limited slip. It uses a cone ring engagement rather than gears.

You may have blown the limited slip. I have a low mileage one if you're interested. A drivetrain company will charge you around $300 + parts to install it if you remove/install the differential yourself. The price jumps dramtically if they have to remove/install the differential too.
Or you can just buy my complete differential with Kazz LSD and plug & play, only some limited street use and a few autox events on it

Not knocking you. I thought it was similar to a Torsen too (as did most of us here) until actually removing one and putting my hands on it.
