View Full Version : Check out my Subs, custom fiberglass
hrankarl 12-01-2007, 03:10 AM I justed wanted to post some pics of my sub's and sub boxes. I made them myself, it was a long expensive process, but fun. I also just put a new bumper on, because i got attacked by a deer :(. If you have any questions or comments, just ask.

chetrickerman 12-01-2007, 03:27 AM noice!
WikkedOne 12-01-2007, 03:57 AM Sweetness man! how expensive (if you don't mind me asking)
llzjayarzll 12-01-2007, 08:39 AM nice boxes!
what u have that one amp to power those subs?
Easy_E1 12-01-2007, 08:56 AM Me likey. Very nice.
Revvittupp 12-01-2007, 01:55 PM I'm impressed, that is my favorite RX8 trunk I have seen, and right up there with some of the top "trunk" designs I've seen period.
I hadn't seen those woofers before now, but I instantly like the design, it makes sense to me. The rigidity of those cones must be ridiculkous. How big are the Magnets? SVC or DVC? One amp for three subs?

hrankarl 12-01-2007, 07:40 PM It probably cost me about $750 maybe more. Yes just one amp DPX1500. Biggest amp clarion makes, there 12" dvc subs rated at 400wrms. the magnets are maybe 5-6inches dia. their very heavy. Ive never worked with fiberglass or anything close to what i did here, Im planning on selling this car soon becasue ill be out of highschool and in college next year.
G3tR3DDY2GR3DDY 12-02-2007, 12:43 AM even though veilside looks cool, which it def. does IMO, you will change your mind very quick if you have to ever repair it or take it off/on alot. I had veilside and i attacked a bank with jagged rocks.... haha it didnt end up too good. If i were you i would try to connect the three boxes with some kinda spacer board or something so it doesnt look like three separate boxes... and straighten that amp up and make a false floor for it! Just suggestions of my opinions but looks very good for a first project! congrats
reddevilwarrior 12-02-2007, 01:59 AM you need veilside sides as well and you can get rear if you like, i got splashguard instead and it flows.
so no spare rim?
hrankarl 12-02-2007, 06:04 PM i have the rest of the body kit in my garage, sideskirts and rear bumper, i wanted them on my car but i've tried to fit them and they dont fit well at all, i dont want to pay a bunch of money when they might look bad. And i never had a spare rim/tire i just had the inflation kit. How did you guys get ur body kits to fit?

+1 otherwise looking good
Fortunate Few 12-03-2007, 12:20 PM let me have your body kit when you sell the car :)
romycha1 12-03-2007, 02:00 PM Nice... now just do something with your amp
G3tR3DDY2GR3DDY 12-03-2007, 06:20 PM my veilside rear was bowed out on the sides a lot but the sidesfit fairly well... i just had to screw into the rocker panel inside the door to keep them down otherwise they would get hit by the door and scratch. plus if you ever like kick it with your foot or hit any kind of speed bump the flex on the sides will destroy them... if i were you i would get some replica urethane MS skirts off a website somewhere. i got mine for 150 shipped and they are A LOT better than fiberglass even though they are replicas...
j rad 12-04-2007, 05:59 PM lovin it :), i wish i could fit 3 15's in there like that, how hard was the install?
uncivilracer 12-04-2007, 11:46 PM Would have went with another amp, but the Sups looks GREAT! Good job man!
hrankarl 12-05-2007, 06:49 PM Any ideas of what i could do with the amp? What is a false floor?
Thanks for the warning about speedbumps and sideskirts not mixing well.
Any other tips on getting the kit to fit?
There not 15's there 12's i think 15's would be impossible, i nearly scratched up the boxes trying to fit them in there.
Whats wrong with my amp? mine was $270 if i went with another brand it would have been $400+
THanks
hrankarl 12-05-2007, 07:17 PM Heres a few more pics including my capacitor (Volfenhag)-cheap. And a graphic i made of a sub and my car.
hrankarl 12-06-2007, 08:02 PM to Hellhammer-
I have built two other MDF boxes before and i can say it was very hard to make these enclosures, but then again im only 18, you may have more experience. I initially wanted to make a single enclosure for all three subs, but quickly figured that out to be impossible. It took me about 2 months(working on it some week nights and almost every weekend). Working with fiberglass is a long aggrivating process, and requires alot of fiberglass materials, ALOT(gloves, paintbrushes, containers, sandpaper etc) I went through about 3 large cans of Bondo fiberglass. And 3 small cans of body filler, I would suggest buying a large size can of bondo(Paint can size). It cost me somehwhere around $750, probly more if i took the time to count up the 30-some farm and fleet, and walmart reciepts. I bought the subs, amp, capacitor, wiring and stuff off ebay. About how it sounds, it is pretty good, but i dont think you can achieve perfection with fiberglass boxes, as you can with MDF. It's not bad sounding its just that you have two secure them down very well for good sound, as one of mine vibrated out of the side and landed on my amp "ouch" it scatched it up a bit. Anyone can have a pair of subs and there car and get them to sound good, but to have 3 in an rx8 and look bad ass, well thats better to me.
Peace
He||hammer 12-06-2007, 08:53 PM true, cool man and again nice job

As for the amp... I would either hide it, or make an amp rack for it. You know how to make fiberglass enclosures, so making some sort of rack wouldn't be hard.
This is a Scion tC that I did for my dealership last year... or I think the year before. But the false floor (the small area where your amp is now) would be a perfect place for you to build some sort of rack to hold your amp.
perks11 12-07-2007, 12:26 PM yea i have a false floor and amp rack in my 8. looks sweet and sounds even better, hides the amp, while still showing it off.
