clutch gone

So i was driving up the 5 internstate to norcal, and about halfway thru, i downshifted from 6th to 5th at around 110mph, anyways when i depressed the clutch, it felt extra light. I thought this was wierd so i tried the shift a couple other times, and it felt like the clutch was fully engaged at 1/3rd of the original length. Also i found it was hard to put it in and out of gear.

So i pulled over at a gas stop, and as soon as i slowed down and put it into 1st, it starts squeeling everytime i depress the pedal. And then the squeeling stopped and turned into this sort of crunching sound. Being stuck in stop and go traffic on the 152 didnt help either. So now below 10mph it squeels, and when i depress the pedal anytime above like 2k rpm, it sounds like my tranmission is eating itself

i managed to limp it home for 60miles by pressing the clutch as least as possible, ie keep it rolling when others are stopped, and doing clutchless upshifts, but it runs fine when the clutch is released but when depressed it sounds like my car is gonna die

any ideas?

im taking it in tommorow and hopefully they can figure it out and cover it underwarranty

bahhhhh

Yeah, your clutch exploded! There's a lot of people who had this problem especially on the 04's. Let me look for the link.

He has a 06 I think, definitely not a 04 his is white. I was wondering why you would be doing 110 Mph in 6th? That gear sucks only useful for MPG when cruising.

Good thing you let Mazda know you were doing 110. Will probably help with your warranty concerns.

well, warranty or not i expect doing 110 shouldnt be an issue for most cars nowadays on the road, especially one marketed as a sports car

I believe that the throwout bearing is what went BOOM!! First the bearing went fully dry and started sqeeling, then tore apart and is now chewing up the fingers of the flywheel.
I see it many times on uor service trucks where I work.
