Just got my car today, and it only has 40 miles on it. :)

I was wondrin how many miles until it is broken in.
I've been hearing all sorts of different things

the dealer said 3,000
(I don't know if I have that patience)
my friends say 2,000
(they're car guys)
and a mechanic I know says 1,000 should be enough

I was wondering if the rx-8 was different from other cars and should be broken in differently.

How exactly is the best way to break a car in. This is my first time on stick so I'm not entirely sure what to do.,:eek:

The manual says 600 miles,

And my dealer said no special treatment is necessary at all. (yes, they do repair $$$ too).

I redlined it in the first week a few times and took it to 100+ mph before 500 miles. Gently of course :-)

Read your owner's manual and do a search. This topic has been talked about extensively.

The book says 600 miles, keep RPM below 6K and vary engine speed as much as possible.

I have 2400 miles on the odometer and can tell you that the engine really opens up after 2K miles.
