As a prospective RX-8 owner, I have one complaint about the car's styling- the front grill opening. The shape makes the car's look something akin to Pokeman. It has an almost childish grin to it.

Moreover, the grill opening shape, with it's slightly arched top, incoming sides and "V" pointed lower lip is common to so many Japanese cars, including Camrys and Hondas. And what was the company thinking when it made the optional chrome grill ring for the car? Does anyone think this enhances the car's styling?

What I would like to see is a oval shaped grill opening like that of the late 50's, early 60's Ferraris. The protruding grill prow is perfect for this kind of look. The grill mesh pattern is appropriate to the car, however.

As an older enthuiast, I never got into the current look of the side skirts, wings, macabre wheel styles and phony vents. Some cars on the streets are so overdone, they have become charicatures of this genre. Some are truly bizarre and utterly tasteless.

Given this car's $30,000 plus price point when optioned out, and it's appeal to those of us who have families, I think a new direction should be taken- one of restraint, maturity and elegance. Enough of 'Rice Boy." This car is for grown ups.

I will tell you that your disdain for the grille opening is futile. That is the Mazda corporate 5-point grille. All (newer) Mazdas have it in some fashion, and you're not likely to see it go away any time soon.

On second thought, there is a Mazda that has something similar to what I'm looking for- the Miata. Perhaps those purveyors of bad taste, HKS, might look into this.

Mazdaspeed bumper!!!!

that's why you get black...you don't see that s m : ) e as much...i thought the exact same thing in every color but black...but i've gotten used to it and the way the headlights and fender flares out just grabs you by the balls and squeezes til you wet yourself...the front end is BEAUTIFUL...too bad the back end seems so uninspired
