Honestly, I'm let down by how the production GTR turned out. The concept had such a nice front bumper especially the cooling ducts below the headlights.. and the headlights- they made them to look more like the current 350Z's.. why?!? I don't doubt the new GTR's performance (and having driven it in the GT5 Prologue demo proved that) but the R34 was the stuff of dreams (even the 25GT [not-GTR model] looked great).. this new one doesn't feel that way anymore

I think it looks pretty mean looking. I'd buy one if I had that cash laying around right now.

I appreciate the photos. Nice work.

I will be very interested to see how the U.S. response to the GT-R. The big league tuners will gobble them up as quickly as they can get their greasy hands on them but for the average joe, I'm just curious.

How many people that can afford a $70k+ automobile know about this car? For that price there is alot of other cars out there. I understand all the performance numbers the GT-R is putting out but we, as informed auto enthusiasts, will understand that, but again the dentist/ doctor/ executive out there is going to be drawn to the european market, mostly, IMO, because of the status that comes with a higher end european auto maker.

If I had the means, I think that I would be on the fence on this one. Just some thoughts.

10-24-2007, 01:35 PM
I'm feeling the same thing...the GT-R has about .001% the street cred with well monied professionals as any number of the lesser European performance cars out there...and 70+K isn't chump change, although not really expensive either. Upwardly mobile professionals have a strong herding instict and may not bite. Performance enthusiasts are going to be super-interested but suspicious as it's a new vehicle with potential problems, not any history (sound familiar?).

But I don't understand Wolverine....you're there, but where are pics and what about rotary cars and rotary engines at the Mazda booth? What going on? Is Mazda pulling a no show on rotary product?:dunno:

The Nissan disappointed me - a very busy and muddled design. The poor Subie is just emasculated. Sad to see. The LF-A looks really nice and the Reventon is Stealth Fighter on wheels. I wonder if it's got the radar signature of a small bird as well.

The Taika has some neat design cues. Gotta wonder what of it will show on the next RX-8.

+1.

The concepts are really quite breath taking compared with the other Japanese companies. Emotion is one of those things which is really hard to translate into sheetmetal, but I think Mazda designers have done a superb job.

Let's see how their new design forms make it into production vehicles.

Wolverine...great pics mate....everyone appreciates it.

So this is the future of cars....in my opinion the future is a portion of the time line which has still yet to occur!

As the shape of our cars change, it will be us who will make the choices about what we like, what we don't like and what we want to buy. Keep in mind that if we don't decide, the car manafacturers will decide for us.

However, the way I see some of these cars, it looks like our future has already been decided for us.....

That Nissan GT-R's supposed to be faster than Porche 911 turbo which has the price tag about 119,000. But they're selling GT-R for around 60,000 in US next year...I thinik it's worth every penny of it, if it's actually faster than a 911 turbo.

well..60k is coverted amount of what they're asking in Japan right now. They started selling those GTRs in Japan for around 7.7 M Yens. But when they actually start exporting those to US they might make less-powered cheaper versions just to make it affordable for most people. Who knows.... I'm just excited to see a japanese stock car that can go faster than a 911 but only half the price of Porche.

The color looks very similar to mine (Stormy Blue Mica), available in the states for '07 models. RotaryNews has the color of the MS RX-8 as either 'Strut Blue Mica' or 'Strato Blue Mica' depending on the article you look at. Is there a difference other than a mangled name?

Strato Blue (sometimes seen as "strut," probably just bad translation) was a color that was available on all non-US RX-8's a few years back, including the limited Mazdaspeed version sold only in Japan. Strato Blue is a dark blue with hints of purple. Stormy Blue is similar, but not as purple. Definitely a different color. The one in the picture here looks like Stormy Blue. Besides, that color is currently in production and Strato isn't.

I wouldn't be suprised if they are just coated like that for show and are actually the same. The lighting and reflections could be making them appear to look different. No 13B rotor looks like that. Not even clean.

Sure wouldn't be the first time a japanese car would trump a 911. In the 70's, 80's, and early 90's the Nissan Z has always made the Barvarian boys sweat. Now its the GT-R's turn to flat out embaress them and go send them back to the drawing board once again.

I could be wrong as I never saw the Strato Blue in person but my impression was more of a straight darker blue that it didn't have as much of a multi-color shift to it as the Stormy Mica (which is the second best color on the 8 IMO :smoker: )

Anyone here see an early 8 in the Stormy Blue in person that can verify my suspissions?
