View Full Version : FS/T: Drop-in 500hp 13B-RE motor setup for RX8

I haven't made much noise about my swap, but I've been running a 13B-RE Cosmo motor with a GT40 turbo in my RX8 for over a year now. About 3 months ago I dyno'd at 447rwhp (Dynapack). This bolts to the stock RX8 6-speed transmission.

I'm looking to swap my car back to stock form. Why? When I first built this car, it was intended as an all-out racecar, so creature comforts such as AC and the heater were sacrificed from the design. However, I've ended up with a 3-rotor FC as a racecar, so it doesn't make much sense for me to be driving this beast to and from work every day (3 miles total). I want my AC back, and I want better gas mileage. The PS, and gauges all still work as if the car were stock.

What I propose is that I sell my engine, turbo, ECU, fuel pumps, etc for $5000, and in exchange I get everything out of your engine bay (engine, wiring harness, etc). I have a shop in mind that can do the swap relatively quickly and cheaply. I have over $10k into the motor, labor, wiring, etc (with receipts from Rotary Power in Gardena, not even including fabrication). That doesn't include the turbo, Haltech ECU, injectors, Jay-tech throttle body, etc etc. The ECU needs retuning as it had a serious problem and was just fixed by Haltech, and being the idiot I am, did not have a backup of the map before I sent it off. I can have this done before any deal is done.

What you get:

- 13B-RE Cosmo motor, custom engine mounts, 800/1600cc injectors, Jay-tech throttle hat w/Accufab 90mm TB, custom exhaust manifold, oil and fuel lines, piping, etc

- Exedy clutch/flywheel

- Garrett GT40 turbo

- Tial 44mm Wastegate & Greddy Type-S BOV, Hallman manual boost controller

- Spearco intercooler and mount

- Bosch "044" external fuel pump, with modified fuel tank pickup, line, Aeromotive FPR, -6 line, and return

- Haltech E6X ECU with complete harness

- Modified RX8 crank position sensor connected to stock RX8 ECU which makes PS/gauges work

I want my stock car back and figure this is a decent way of going about it. Again, I want everything from your engine bay needed to turn the car back to stock form + $5000 for this swap (believe me, it will cost you alllooot more to do this yourself).

Any questions, please PM me. Preferably you are in the Socal area as I have no idea how this would work if shipping were involved. I may entertain the idea of selling the thing outright without your engine as a replacement if the price is right. I'll also entertain trades for 'stuff' as I'm always in need of various car parts for other projects.

the $5000 covers the install correct? Just 5g's and drive away with the motor in the car?

Does not cover the install, although the whole thing is somewhat negotiable based on the cost of the swap (haven't talked to the shop yet).

Wouldn't it be easier to just trade cars with someone?

Definitely would be, but a) my car only has ~4000 miles on it, and b) I'm guessing the financing would be a mess. But definitely open to the idea!

Good luck getting any substitution of collateral working with banks, etc. It would have to be two way purchase, payoff, and new loan(s) required.

Your way may actually be cleaner.
