Unless good ole Hugo is making now car stereo systems instead of suits, you sure shouldn't have any Boss markings on your speakers. Rather Bose. :p

If you take off the grill/cover, you will see 'Bose' in tiny letters embossed onto the cone of the speaker itself. It is present on the 6X9's and the 9 inch woofers.

Hey Kap, seeing you've been there...

Did you go as far as taking the 9's out to look?

I'm interested in the depth available and the way they're mounted, real size of the hole, etc.

Plus there's an amp in there isn't there? Do you know if it's part of the speaker assembly itself?

I didn't do any of the work myself (as I know zilch about car audio). I'm having a shop replace all the speakers for me, but I am looking over his shoulder at times trying to understand what's what. But I'll try to answer your question best I can understand.

The actual size of the hole in the door is 9 inches. It's actually a circular trim that gets raised away from the door panel a little. I can imagine putting a 9" circular cutting board about 3 inches thick into the hole and have it flush. The mounting depth looks fairly deep as the bottom right corner of the driver's side window only intrudes into the speaker hole about 2 inches. That means you can go all the way to the outer panel in depth. Just from a glance, it looks like you have a bit over 3 inches to work with. The woofer isn't mounted in any special way, just a couple of screws (I think 4) on top of the woofer to secure it to the holes in the panel.

I'm not sure if what I saw was an amp, it seemed more like a crossover as it was a rectangular box about 2" x 4" that had a signal cable coming in from the head unit and one set of cables going up to the tweeter and another set going to the woofer. There's definately nothing attached directly to the speaker besides it's own magnet.

Anyhow, I hope that gives you some idea of how things are behind that door panel.

Those are the door amps. And most of the time, Bose doesn't actually manufacture the speakers, they more or less specialize in enclosures and getting the most out of a "plain" speaker. They have various suppliers.
