My engine light goes on AND the immobilization warning light (flashing red car/key thing) flashes when I turn and remove the key.
It is STILL flashing!
Taking it in (25 miles away) tomorrow.
Any insights? This kind of thing happaned with my TT and they had to replace the entire dashboard cluster.
Sigh.
Yikes, sorry to hear about your troubles. Sounds like your jinxed when it comes to new cars.

UGH! Be very careful; call Mazda (or dealer) see if they have any insight. I wouldn't want to hurt the car....my 2 cents...

The dealer will be able to read the code and identify the problem.
But the flashing red car when remove the key is quite normal - it's supposed to do that, to indicate that the system is armed!

yes mine flashes too when the key is removed. it's normal! as far as the cel remove the gas cap and put it back on and turn it 4 clicks. worth a shot.

the CEL is probaly the gas cap pr some other easily fixed problem. the flashing car should not continue to flash if you insert the key and turn it. if it does then that might be what caused the CEL. it always flashes when the key is removed. is the key you are using the one with black plastic or the one with the grey plastic?

Hmmm, I just got to the ecu, and noticed about 3 wires that were crushed between the plastic housing.
They did do that at port, right?
Forutunately nothing is wrong with mine, but might be a place to check the connectors, etc.

I am all set. They said that a signal from the thermostat tripped the warning light.
They reloaded the computer info and everything is fine. the car never ran hot.
Apparently just a computer glitch.
