I'm fairly new here and have done much reading in the past month or so and I got to say this site rocks on the information at hand. I got a 04 MT and she's only got roughly 7000 miles on her. She's mainly a weekend car and she has'nt seen any winters. I was reading that they need to be redlined at least once every time taken out. I don't baby her, I have as much fun with it as I possible can but to be honest I never really got her up past 8500 rpm. Well today I let her loose.....took her up well past 9000 in 3rd and couldn't beleive how smooth it was. After all said and done she feels a little different now, alot more smoother. Thanks guys for the info!

Ride her hard and hang her up wet is my motto. She'll love you back if you do it every time you drive her.

I'm not sure as tho there really is much of a reason to run past 9K...besides hitting the rev limiter. But yea, running to the red at least once a day does seem to be a good thing...in more ways then one :)

It actually isn't any different. You just love and respect her more. :)

somebody once said that the rx8 like a porno star. you gotta bang it good, hard and often. and it rides really well.

I tried doing the redline rule and noticed whenever I hit just barely below 8k (4AT I know...I know...not 9k.), that whenever it's rev'ing down from there I hear something from the engine, sounds like my old car's FIPK, like the engine is sucking in a huge amount of air, you can hear it. Is that normal, or is something up that I should be worried about?

Yup, you can redline the car all day long and it will thank you for it.

9000 rpm actual for the 6 MT . But your tach will read 9500 .

My bangs the rev limiter at between 9300 and 9400 rpm.

Or so I've been told ... LOL
