hey guys, i want to replicate the helix exhaust, and i need to know how many people is down buying a replica helix exhaust (a taiwanese exhaust manufacture is willing to do the R&D to make it down to the exact same sound as the real helix). i need to know how many people would be interested to buy the exhaust (they said a minimum of 50 exhaust need to be made) so spread the word guys!
ill start the group buy interest. (by the way, Niel89 agreed to letting me borrow the exhaust so this company can R&D it to make their replica sound just like the helix)

i'll need some time to make a decision because i was just in an accident and i dont know what is going to be happening with the car. after i find out from the insurance place and the auto body place i'll throw my name in the hat

Do you have any pictures you can show of it, or any sound clips?

I think the easier way to do this would be to find out the mufflers and tips that they used and then just take it to Meineke and get them to do all the piping. Might end up being cheaper too.

people, all i need is for you guys to show interest. none of you needs to send me any money to fund the R&D of this exhaust. as long as there are enough people showing interest (by the way its not like the exhaust has already been made, in fact it wont be made for another couple of months) so the company knows its worth going through the trouble to replicate the same sounding exhaust for us.

thanks for pointing that out swoope! anyways, i have some updates on this exhaust. my contact is going to talk to the taiwanese company about making a prototype first, they are then going to put it on a rx8 in taiwan, record a sound clip, then email it to me, ill post it on the forum in a couple of months. now, within that time frame, i am hoping i can get at least 50 people interested. once i post the sound clip, whoever is interested can then decide if they want this replica exhaust to go into production. price is going to be more or less 500 dollars, and for the titanium exhaust question, well lets see if there are more demands for it first.

i am not sure if that can be done, i'd have to ask in the far east/asia section to see if anyone in taiwan is running a straight pipe.

i dont think the ~ 5 helix out there have been on a scale... it is similar to the rx7.com exhaust..

but no one has an answer for sure on who makes the muffler...

as to tia.. or preformance.. this exhaust is about sound..

if it is 3" all the way to the y, and 2.5 back, it will be fine.. if you dont update your exhaust header gasket. doesnt matter...

this is not something ground breaking, but if it comes in at that price it would be a good thing..

you said that the taiwanese company is going to do a test mule proto copy of this exhaust and put it on THEIR RX8...
this sounds tricky..cause i am a taiwanese and i know taht in taiwan THERE IS NO GT SPEC RX8 (our manual with 6 port). all they have had are the 4 port auto rx8.
i think this might make a difference on the sound even if the exhaust is repliacted to milli cm perfection.
anyway..
i am sort of interested in it given that the price can be lower than 430 cause the real one is only around 540.
and of course, we will have to know what kind of material its gonna be made into...

i cant gurantee you anything on the date, R&D on the exhaust might take a while, but i can guarantee the price will be between 450-500 dollars and that it will be a 3 inch exhaust. :)

i weighed it before i put it on the other day. i just had it put on by a local exhaust shop.

Need a month or so to gather funds. I'm definately in though.

N rider was very nice to take pictures of it and weight the exhaust, which turned out to be around ~30 pounds, that is all. thanks to all that showed interest in this replica!

there's no need for it to hang that low, that one appears to not be the best fab job which is likely why it was laying around so long before someone decided to pawn it off on fleabay. I have a 3" pipe on my homemade system and the chassis rails will rub the ground before it does ....

dude 50 is alot and by the time you get there the first 20 people will have went out and got a different exhaust. i appreciate the effort. theres a guy not to far from me who said hell make me the exact same exhaust for the same price as the helix. if you guys are intrested il find out his name and number to his shop and you guys can just call him up and tell him what you want and email him the pics.
