Well those that saw my dyno noticed I had a big power fall off over 7000rpm. Since my plugs were replaced at 56,000, I have 64000 now, I figured best bet was the coils were starting to go. They get limited airflow down there, so they tend to melt overtime leading to rough idle, loss of peak power, misfires, etc.
I just put on 4 new coils today ($32cdn through onlinemazdapoarts.com) and big time improvement (at least in my head).
They easiest way to tell if they are going is just pull them off and look at the bottom. On the bottom of all my coils, the part that sits against the mounting plate, you could see the damage. The 2 front ones were a nickle sized spot, the 2 rear coils hafd a quarter sized spot. The black metal had burned off and turned white and bubbly looking.
Now the car runs smoother, idles consistently and seems stronger up top.
