dang, those are some sweet pictures! Well the weather today was awful, drive home was especially bad. If you cn picture driving home in a monsoon with a car loaded down about 100 extra lbs in wheels, on brand new wheels on stretched 30 series tires then that was me! I probably should have gotten a picture of the car all loaded down, in the parking lot at work I could barely get my foot underneath the sideskrts lol But alas, no wreck, no hail damage, no problems, and the sun sorta' came out towards the evening. My car is filthy, but I knew people would want to see pics (even crappy ones lol) so I hosed her down real quick, and got to snapping. Obviously I'll be taking better ones at some point, but since i have a lot of stuff going on with the car that'll be a while :)
Here's a brief review of these wheels:

pros- lip for days, i like how the "Work" stuff is actually stamped into the wheel and not a sticker, I especially love the spoke design. The offset on these is perfect, although I may have to roll fenders if I end up going with bigger tires in the rear.

cons- I'm not sure if I like the no center cap look, may have to rig something to clean that up a bit. I've seen the 2 piece version with centers in them, so maybe I'll see what's out there, maybe at least for the fronts anyway.
I'll probably have to get bigger tires for them, as much as I love the stretched look, I fear driving on these every day and to shows etc. may destroy them, and that would suck, plus I'm a little nervous about pushing them hard on some of the drives we do as there is next to no sidewall which could cause the tires to unbead etc. on spirited drives :)

Thanks again to Lazi for the awesome deal, I'll have better pictures up eventually, these will have to do for now :D:

I have to say it again though, the wheels look HOT!!

canaryrx8
04-18-2007, 09:51 AM
Thanks! Those tires were part of the deal, and really good in the wet too lol Lazi told me over the phone yesterday (homedude called just to check on everything which was awesome) he sized them that way and picked those wheels especially for the lippage, there are different styles of lips for these wheels and these are the most aggressive offset and the most aggressive lip. I really do LOVE the way they look stretched, (I usually don't, but these are just wow) but this car is my only car, it's my daily (no powderpuff trailer queen here :D: ) , and stretched tires just don't fair too well around here traversing the moon craters we have disguised as roads. I might be able to manage just being careful etc., but I would hate to sacrifice these beautiful wheels and lip just for a look :) I think what I might do is go 285/30 or 275/35 in the rear, and then just put the backs on the fronts. then I'd have a little more sidewall and width, and that would protect them a little more from the volcano pits around here, I swear sometimes stopped in traffic you can hear voices coming from the potholes where people fell in and need help getting out :D:

Looks Good Canary, get more pics! I love fat lips too :)

I think the mesh on the front bumper should be black, it would compliment the wheels much nicer.

Also if you dont plan on changing the rear end to the MS Diffuser, you should paint the black plastic on your rear bumper gloss black.

It will make the car look outsanding i think.

canaryrx8
04-20-2007, 07:14 PM
okey dokey, was planning on changing the mesh anyway, already ordered and had it picked out before stumbling into the wheels lol Not going to do the MS rear, maybe if it was an entire bumper already painted (or not) for that price sure, but I just don't see spending that much cash on only part of the bumper. (love the way they look though, maybe someday I'll break down and get one or find one cheap etc.) So here's some slightly better pics, not a very creative location but I wanted to get some shots before it goes into the body shop for warranty paint fixin'. The next time I post pics it will have the paint flaws fixed, black mesh, and maybe I can ask them to paint the back bumper section as you mentioned if it's not crazy expensive too :) :wiggle:

Just for kicks I swung by a stealership today to see if our rx8 wheel centers might fit these, the opening on the S1's is too big so no go on that, wonder if Work makes any kind of center for these, or if I'm going to have to pull them off soon and rattle can some flat black in there to clean things up abit, probably going to do my calipers soon as well :)

tires are 275/35/18. i dont get any rubbing at full turn. these wheels are 17.2lbs each, a lot lighter than stock, so its still less weight up front. not sure how much your wheels weigh tho.

So I've noticed something disturbing about my beautiful new wheels, I guess when they got mounted they chipped some of the paint along the inside of the centers on some of them (pretty much all 4). I haven't begun to start complaining to anyone yet as I'm totally wiped out from all the battles I'ev already had to fight lately. My question is, does Work or anyone make a center cap for my Meisters? My 2 options are to either touch them up somehow with black paint, or find some centers that fit them and protect the inside centers etc. Anyone haev a suggestion or idea? The paint on them appears a little flimsy, makes me wish they would have pwder coated them instead of painting them but oh well.

tires are probably too tall, I'd try a slightly smaller profile next go-round, probablly go slighty more narrow too. Are these 8.5's on all corners or?

Nice Rezax JRB, look great on the red.

It's not the tires that's the problem; 245/40-18s actually have a slightly shorter rolling diameter than the stock 225/45-18s. Rather, the +32 offset is probably a bit on the aggressive side, but even so you shouldn't be rubbing in the rear. My guess is that you're running very little negative camber on the rear wheels; get an alignment done and see what numbers pop up. My guess is it'll be at something like 0.5 degrees negative camber. I don't know what your definition of slight is, but if it actually is very slight getting the rear negative camber to 1.5 degrees should eliminate the rubbing. That is just my wild assed guess. It's really weird that a 245 is rubbing in the rear.

thanks for the compliments... looking for a nice rear bumper or maybe i'll just pick up the appearance package aero flares. i think they finish the back off nicely... simply. also want to get an understated rear spoiler... just something low and thin to sit at the edge of the trunk ( not the rb). dig the jdm look

ngo - working on the drop. crap thing is that i'm not getting as much drop in the front with the ms coilovers as i should. got a tip from another member that its probably because the control arms were tightened while the car was off the ground. suggested loosening the bolts a bit so that the car settles properly, then tightening them again (makes sense). gonna try that in the next day or so. the backs i can drop til the thing is on the friggn ground.

we shall see...

NgoRX8

thanks, bro.

i felt the same way you did about the bronze. even wanted to sell them for a few weeks. but now i'm glad i didnt. the black and bronze isnt a common combination. i like it cuz it doesnt call too much attention to the wheels.

cant answer that for certain. you might want to contact desmond performance (www.desmondperformance.com) and ask if they accept them (ask for Daniel). when i got the rims i had a little snafu with the new tires i ordered when. I was was so focused on resolving the problem that i forgot to take the tpms units out of the oem wheels to have them installed:icon_no2: . i've just been dealing with the light ...

DynamicDookie

I 've had these on for a few months now and finally got around to taking some pics. A big thanks to Danomite for the offset tire recommendations. He knows his stuff.

The wheels are gunmetal Work Emotion CR Kai 18x9.5 +38 all around with Falken Azenis 615 RT. I went with 255/40/18 rather than 265/35 because they were a lot cheaper and are almost the exact size as stock. No speedo/odo change.

I had some slight rubbing issues in the rear until I had the alignment redone. For camber, I did 1.5 front/2.0 rear. Toe is 0 front and 1/16 rear and caster is 7. I get the occasional rub, but nothing serious. The front never rubs and TPMS works with these wheels. I'm lowered on Tein S-tech and the 5zigen gunmetal lugs match really well.

I hope this info helps someone and thanks again Danomite.

btw. the first two shots I took in the am the last two around 3pm (you can see the nasty traffic on the 405/10).

The decals sure help complete the wheels. The gold is looking really good on your WB, substantially helps ad depth to your car. Nice touch

My Work CR Kai's came into today. I'm actually at the shop right now. 18x9.5 +38 Rear - Deep Concave and 18x8.5 +38 Semi-Concave (Not the +37 flat face) Tires are Falken F452 265/35/18's and 245/40/18's.

These wheels are going to be mounted with 5zigen ProRacer blue lugs. 52mm(whichever the long ones are)

Will post pics when complete.

The wheels came in today and the lugs so I was able to get them in the shop ASAP. I left work for this but I'm glad I did because they weren't going to drop this off.

Props to Fluid Motorsports for handling my many orders as it took WEEKS to find a set of wheels. Originally I ordered the 5zigen ZR+ 520's but they didn't have my sizes so I decided to spend way more money just to piss topgear8 off.

The lugs I ordered are the 5zigen Proracer 52mm(long ones) in blue. It turned out to be an AWESOME combo because the colors match perfectly.

Specs:Gunmetal (looks bronze doesn't it)
18x8.5 +38 Semi-Concave Front / 18x9.5 +38 Deep Concave Rear

I am perfectly aware I need to drop the car...I am currently eating out of a fucking can in order to get these wheels...but at least I'm losing some weight in the process. Tein S-Techs are coming in next week. Be patient.

I was just going to ask that actually. Do you think I will have any problems with Tein S-Tech's with my specs? I don't THINK i should. I have a TON of room in the front...but the rear may be close. I know its only a .7 inch drop though.

Rear = 18x9.5 +38 with a 265/35 tire.

^You will be fine in the rears. If you do get rubbing over some bumps then a little bit of negative camber will solve it.

I sound like I don't know how to speak english in my last post with that fractured sentance, lol.

You should be fine with that spec and the minimal drop. As top gear said it would be very close so you a touch of camber would do the trick. Congrats on the wheels again!

Thanks Tilt,

People are starting to come up to me and telling me how much they used to hate my old wheels. Makes me feel good and bad I guess.

Question to Work owners:

What center caps will work with my CR Kai's? Do you think I could get the stock gunmetal center caps that come on the R3? Too small?

Should I go decals or no decals? I'm asking because I tried just a second ago...and it may be one of the hardest things I ever did in my life. I honestly don't know the correct way.

I don't remember exactly, but I want to say that a S2000 owner some how got his center caps to fit. That's the only center cap story I have.

Dan put his on after he repainted the rims. I would ask him how he did it. I still have my set and in blue if you mess up...

i just looked at the wheel on WORK's website and stuck them on. didn't really think too much about it, just cut out the stickers and slapped them on.

you cannot have center caps for our cars with these wheels. the rear axle shaft protrudes too much for and center cap to fit.

Rear = 18x9.5 +38 with a 265/35 tire.

when i first bought my CR Kai i ran that setup and had no problems. the S-Techs weren't low enough to cause rubbing with the 265. ALTHOUGH, i did run Falken ST-115 which are slightly narrower than other 265 tires out there.

now i run 255 all the way around, but that's a totally different story.

Thanks for the replies. I am gonna have to take some scissors to that decal sheet now. I fugged it all up but maybe I'll be able to salvage most of the stickers on that one sheet.

What i did was try to peel off the covers on each side first. I would have figured that was the wrong way if I could read Japanese.

and nuke, they are 8.5 +25 which is semi-concave. i never was fond of the fully deep concave nways... they look too... aggressive on the 8 and no offence to u dan, u did a really great job turning ur 8 to a real aggresive 8, it's just i don't think my apperance package would blend in well with the 9.5 deep concaves

for the blue lug nuts, i assumed the 4 close ended ones are the wheel lock, but why the rest or open ended?

That is how the 5zigen wheels lugs came. I have seen setups like the ones you've mentioned though. Maybe Rays lugs are that way?

Dezau looks good...+25 worked out pretty good for you it seems. I will however disagree with you about the deep concave. My rears look delicious.

I'm with DanOMite a little bit, even though I am a late comer to the Work party. Look at the wheels I USED to have though.

I would not like to see the CR Kai's go the way of the Enkei RPF1...but at the current price point that shouldn't happen anytime soon.
