I say get a CAI (one without a foam intake), replace all the greddy hoses with better ones, fix the top strakes so that they're level with the ground (the mazda instructions are incorrect, which is why dealers sometimes have the strakes installed this way), get rid of the mazda logo on the front windshield, and get rid of the stickers unless you're actually sponsored.

well here it comes:
strakes are crooked
mazda logo is about 2x too big
your car doesnt look lowered
you need some type of body kit factory or aftermarket
loose the black stripe, it doesnt go all the way
your exhausts shrouds are different color then your rear underbumper

nice turbo
nice black badging
Sweet sound system
nice black grills (by the strakes)
nice lack tailights

I'm too late...

IMHO, if you have to have stickers and blacked out tail light (which will get you pulled over btw), at least lower the car. Really. Stock height and stickers don't go together. But then I like stealth, so I don't like stickers.

04-09-2007, 12:19 PM
I'm not a huge fan of the stickers (unless someone is paying you to have them there), but then again I'm not really into getting the validation of others regarding my car. I'm never going to post pictures and ask what anyone thinks, because, no offense to anyone here, but I don't care what anyone else thinks. That being said though, it looks like you've put a lot of work into it and if it matters, I honestly like the wheels being painted black. My 8 is black and I think that black on black combo might look good (at least until I figure out what kind of after-market wheels I want, it might give it a "one-off" look while I'm deciding). Anyway, did you do that yourself or do you at least know what went into it?( type of paint, etc.)

Pleasant constructive criticism is something you won't find here or on any forum. Nice, docile comments = boring reading and dead threads.
If you like your car, and it fits in with your local crowd - enjoy. And honestly, thats all you have to say. Look at some of the international forums - different strokes for diff folks.

Moostafa29

ARC, before the mods clean the last 1.5pages up, let me give you a little friendly advice. I know you're very proud of your car, and it suites your taste, however that taste happens to be different from the majority of the people on this board. Now when you ask everyone for their honest opinion of your car, thats what we are going to give you...an honest opinion. Some poeple may be a bit harsh about it, but that is more personality than them trying to start something. I guess my point is that if you are asking for opinions, you need to be able to take the criticism that may come with it.

As far as all this argueing, please cut it out. Moos out.

LabDad

since you asked...

I think it looks terrible. Too much going on, the black stripe has to go and the badges on the trunk are overkill. What's with the stickers on the side? Are you sponsored? You have a K&N sticker there so does that mean you run a K&N oil filter or is the vinyl just for show? Unless someone is giving you free parts or paying to run the stickers its just rice.

disclaimer: the above statements are my opinion, they do not necessarily reflect the opinion of rx8club. I usually never reply to these types of posts unless the OP specifically asks for opinions.

Wow little man, looks like you're tryin' too hard to impress the 16 year old girls. Honestly I would've taken all the money you spent on your car so far and used it to buy a bad ass set of wheels.
The stripe along the car doesn't flow with the lines of the car.
Yeah, you noticed the strakes are crooked.
Mazda logo, too freakin' huge.
Missing' under tray. Big mistake, that could cost you a pretty penny but daddy can pay for that.
System probably more than the car can handle. I used to have a set of 12" Comp VR's and Resolution speaker inside and running 3 Kicker amps on my previous car
Not diggin' the black out badges, lights and did you also black out the power bulge on the hood?
I think if you took your car to L.A with all your stickers, you would most likely get shot at.
Look for DeeDubb's VR for inspiration..

To the OP, all I can say is:

wow... really?

I understand you how you my feel the need to lash out and respond to some of the harsh comments. No one wants to be told that their pride and joy is a POS. However, before you do so, remember that your thread is called "Tell me what you think". People told you what they thought, as YOU invited them to do. Perhaps it wasn't what you wanted to hear, but that's life, and instances like this will happen many more times as you continue on thru the course of your life (I'm 24, btw...).

Regarding the car, I dislike the wheels, stripe, and window vinyl. However, I've seen the painted wheels look good on another 8, so it can work... If you lost the strip and window sticker (I've never had a problem with stickers...), lowered it some, and straightened the strakes, then your car would look significantly better...

Jus my 2 cents...

and if ur car isnt stock under the hood then lets let everyone know that ur modding it by adding to the outside. seriously is everyone in this forum thirty??? because it seems like older ppl dnt like modding their cars exterior.

hmm i dont know how say this, but putting stickers on cars doesnt make you look cool. there are ways to mod the exterior look with out going over board . but if your happy with the look of your car then that is you. but most ppl i know likes clean look vs loud look. not taht your car looks very loud or anything, but the look just doenst flow with smoothness. any how that is just my opinion btw.

where i'm from stickers only cause you headaches with the muscle car crowd. I think the big ass mazda sticker is a bit much, the strakes would look better in black, a CF hood would accent the look you are going for, i hope your turbo is properly tuned, and i like the speaker set up.

I like the car for a couple reasons:

1. It's individual. There are a couple Rx-8s where even if I saw them going the other way on a highway I would know who that was (chrism).
2. It's not all 1 thing. It's got some paint work, some audio, a turbo kit. When I look at my car, I always think "I'm building the sports car I always wanted" and not "I'm building the rolling stereo I always wanted" or "the dragster I always wanted".

I think you have a couple things working against you.
1. The paint scheme is fairly rich. You are two-toning a car in 2 dark colors (red and black). On top of that, the the Rx-8 is a car with a lot of lines. On top of that, you are interjecting a prominant stripe and contrasting emblems and decals. This makes the car visually busy and heavy. On top of that, it looks like your pictures were taken on an overcast day.
2. The decals and abbreviated stripe on top of the base trim of the car make the car look short. The line of stickers and stripe both end at the firewall which kind of visually shortens the car.
3. The angle of your car in the second pic isn't flattering. The car has one wheel turned at the camera and is sitting back on the rear axle. This makes the close front end of the car a mile and a half off the ground. I have a stock ride height 8 at the moment and I almost had to look outside to see if it's really that high off the ground.
4. The reason *most* people don't like decals is because it emphasizes the brand name of a product over the actual product. That's like buying clothing on it with huge logos. You pay for the name hoping it impresses people. When you build a car, you use a lot of brand name stuff, but, in the end, you'd like to say you picked your parts because they were the best parts for the job, not because they were the biggest brand name. I've seen a few cars with decals that were unintrusive. They either put them on the side skirts or bumper corners.
5. The HUGE Mazda brow I just don't get. I have a tint brow that is probably even thicker than that, but it's much more featureless. Most would consider that redundant. Anyone who didn't know your car was a Mazda is probably not worth telling anyway.

I think, if you put on a MS kit, the car will look much better. It'll look lower, longer, and hopefully, dilute the color contrast a little. The decals I would leave along if you like them and those are companies you use. Generally, people are paid to put the decals on for a reason, but that's small potatoes. Then, take some pictures with the car angled a little better on a sunny day.

I bet with straight strakes, an MS kit, and no Mazda brow, the complaining about the stripe and decals would be less as well.

-----------------------------

I think the problem here and in the other thread... is the 8 is now going to "civic" mode. Its pretty cheap in resale value, and now people can pick them up for almost 16k in some places. This leads to the crappifying of the car.

and jmo is an idiot and an rx8 owner. how embarrasing.

I also disagree with giving people credit for just being "unique" - i can take a stock 8, spray paint it pink, and take a big fat dump on the roof. sure its UNIQUE - buts its still ugly as sh*t.

In my opinion, I think your car isn't really complete yet. And as far as the stickers and what not, a lot of people go through that phase. I think if there is a little bit more done to the exterior portion of the car (body kit, lip kit), the car would look very nice. I know how it is being young and buying an expensive ride. If it makes you feel any better, I'm only one year older than you. It's been hard to pay for everything, but that is what i get for trying to drive such a nice car. That is also why I am very cautious about what I do to it. I've owned my 8 for 5 months now, and my car hasn't gotten more progress than a rmagic front lip, apperance sides. strakes, front and rear trim, intake, and clear corners. >.< It sucks, but thats' the way I am.

I know everyone wants to personalize their car, but you have to understand that your taste isn't everyone else's taste. It is your ride, and what's most important is getting it the way you like it. Asking for other people's opinions, will get you just that, their honest opinion. I am very glad that you get to drive a ride like this in high school. If you take some of the advise here, I'm sure people at your school would love it even more.

I can't resist chiming in since I could see your car someday since we are in neighboring states.

A some things have been covered already but I'll mention them as well:

1. The stripe on the side of the car doesn't do much of accentuating the lines of the car it could look better if it was installed at an angle since it can't run the length of the car. :dunno: I don't like pin striping on cars and it kind of looks like a fat pin stripe. :spew:

2. Stakes need adjustment for proper angle.

3. The Mazda front windshield placard is not necessary since it is plastered on the trunk and has an emblem on the nose. (When you get your MS kit shave the pin off of the Mazda emblem that goes on the nose so you can pull it down the road without having to fill the hole that would be in the nose if you didn't).

4. The stickers are not an accent to the car. Why sticker it up?

5. The blacked out tails are a bit much and would look classier with less tint. ;)

6. The audio install in the trunk looks decent. :icon_tup:

7. Harsh words on the forum doesn't get a person far and they end up looking like an ass...

Hope I covered everything. :scratchhe

you need to put the under tray back asap.
1) it looks ghey without it, like you have a big gaping hole... surprise! you do.
2) your gonan cause a lot of damage one day, if you havent already... mazda and every other car manufacturer doesnt put those things there just cause they are cool to brag about

either:
drop the car, get a bodykit, fix the strakes, fix the miscolored bumper, and be sponsored/paid for what you have done to the car...

OR

get rid of the: rims, oversize mazda emblem, stripe, strakes, stickers, odd colored bumper... and start over

remember, unless you have an outright show or sponsored car... subtlety is key
