According to RG's personal experience with the rotary head, it seems that mobil1 is a no no for Rotary engine (dunno why tho)

While reaplacing the Mud Guard today. Instead of the usual Royal Purple oil, I decided that I should try to go with the most popular Oil on the market today, AKA Mobil1.

When I was at PepBoys, I also decided that I want to go *all out* so instead of Mobil1, I picked some Mobil1 Extended Performance 5w30 up *see pictures*

Drain oil thru the plug, raise driver side so I can get more oil out, then dump Mobil1 in .... Mobil1 looks much thicker than I expected, well I havent use Mobil1 for a while so Im pretty sure their fomula has changed (somewhat maybe)

After 50 miles, It does not feel as good when I was using RP.

Will see what happens in 1-2 K miles

Works great for piston engines. Maybe it has too much stickyness that causes carbon on the Apex seals.

Works great in the rear end or trannny on the RX 8.

Is it bad to mix synthetic which the normal stuff? How do you get all 8qts out of the pan/oil coolers to do a full change?

No, they do sell the blended stuff. 8qts? 6qts. maybe.

You are the first guy, in the history of that oil, who actually spells it 'Mobil' instead of Mobile.
Keep up the adequate work, we are almost pleased to have you around.

Oh wow, you did an oil change. The pics were great to, now I know where to pour the stuff.

j/k. Couple questions.
1) Why spend more for the extended performance? You planning on keeping it in there for 15,000 miles?
2) 5w30 is a little heavier than what's called for, especially considering its winter and you're in NY. Any reason behind this?

:P

Took the pic with my 7.2 MP digital camera, I have to resize it down so I can upload it .... so this is not really the original quality pic, but I think its alright.

1. No I will change it again after 1K mile, cuz the feeling of mobil1 extended performance suck ass. oh why extended ? well the diffs between the regular mobil1 and extended was like 50 cents.

2. thats because 5w30 provides better lube than 5w20. Prior the recent recall if you use 5w20 for an extended period of time and cruising. Your engine's side seal will not get enough lube and the metal to metal will kiss each other too hard and the result would be a slowly dying engine. They made it sound like a emission recall so they can force this to everybody, and ONLY NA market got this recall. If you did SEARCH the forum you should've known the answer. oh for winter driving the 20/30 part doesnt really matter, that number bascially means how well it *stick/thick* when the oil is hot. If I use 10w30 then u can call me crazy, because the oil will freeze up when it hits water freezing point, I crank it and its going to fuxk my car up completely.

but I dont really care about the recall, I've been using 5w30 since I think maybe before 5K miles ? Now Im 25600 still running strong, recall vacum test came out fine, no powerloss ever (except for once that I had a clogged cat, but that has nothing to do with the engine)

Actually, its where the name originally came from... Right after cars became popular they started marketing it as the only stuff specifically made to put in your Automobile... and the rest is history

... i think it was one of the first things i learned there
