Just curious to know. I don't know what is the official top speed of the RX-8. Has anyone went up to whatever the car will do and experienced any kind of speed limiter/rev limiter etc.?

Personally the fastest I've went was around 225km/h. Still lots of revs left in 6th, and still very stable.

So did you do this on a public road?

240, in 5th gear, beeper going.

If I change to 6th there isn't enough oomph, speed just slowly drops off.

I went about 190Km/h (I think that's around 4th redline) on the Coquihalla Hwy during my roadtrip to and from Vancouver. The ride was a bit bumpy, but otherwise smooth, very stable and road noise more quiet than I expected.

They're like weeds, as soon as one's started and gets deleted by the mods another crops up not much later.

Oh well at least I'll get a free postcount off of this one before it's vaporized:yelrotflm

Yes this thread is a bit of a dupe.

240 seems to be the max in 5th, As stealth mentioned a stock 8 doesnt have the oomph to get there in 6th.

though it would be fun to try comming down the Coquihalla in the summer :)

FYI when your fuel lights on there an automatic cutoff of 140 reguardless of what gear your in.

Wait a sec... I could have sworn there's a speed limiter on this car???
If my memory serves me right, the limiter should kick in around 138mph?? (according to R&T of course...)

Personally, I've only been to 265km/h. I was still accelerating but we noticed the 2nd gen RX-7's were getting left behind. So the 3rd gen's decided to slow down a bit. ;)

So did you do this on a public road?

I did it on the 404 a few months ago chasing a G35 sedan who almost hit me when it passed me cutting into my lane at a very high rate of speed, so I had to show him some colours.

So 240 seems to be max a stock RX8 eh?

R&T was 148mph

That I know of, the lowest tested speed was 144, otherwise I thought it was limited at 148? Some euro mags quoted 155mph, so??? I remember hearing a German guy on here saying he has maintained 150mph indicated speeds with a limiter kicking in at 155 (indicated).

As for me...working for the insurance industry...no comment.

The weeds are getting out of hand. Now the autos decided to start a fastest speed thread also.

Oh, well. Chink. One more free post.

250kmh or so...then i ran out of room...

250 km/h indicated by the speedometer, but the actual speed is usually lower.

The important thing is this car can go from 100 to 180 in a hurry, and that's really the more useful range for your average illegal driving.

LMAO, thats like saying" I can carry 300lbs of pot, but I only like 50 on my back so I can run."

But it is true, car feels almost limited bellow 100.

On highway the car have no problem to do 250km/h...But not very smart....
If you go check my video on my RX-8 on the race track, on this race track I can only go to 175km/h...this is very good compare to my Mazda3 that was only going to 135km/h at the same spot...
Difference with 2 video (mazda3/RX8) Mazda have a Koni ajustable suspension and RX8 was stock with only 800km on speedo...
Very bumby with mazda3 koni...

where can I check your videos on the track?

which track is it?

The stock rx8 setup is pretty good even for track use. It's got too much roll, but the grip, balance, and adjustability are all amazing for a stock setup. =)

I chickened out at 220km/h, there was a curve in the road ahead and I figured since I hadnt been busted by the boys in blue yet, I wasnt going to make the corner.

I dont have very good luck...! But I was surprised, it was quiet, fluid movement... still room to go.

Maybe I'll give it another shot in the spring when the summer tires are back on..

Cool they are both good car..but my mazda3 automatic was faster on a circuit than a speed...lol
Power is less but suspension and brake was better on the 3.
On my video I follow a Supra turbo and I have oni suspension with
K104 Hankook...
My only advantage is that all my car are setup by me...pressure tire are near than perfect.. :wiggle: I used to be a set-up men for 3 years in stock car (ACT)
It's fun to have to drive 3 good mazda
Speed, mazda3, rx-8..but dont have the budget to have 2 of it at the same time..lol lucky you...

No it's not like that, I used to own the MSP but now my my younger brother is making the payments and I got an RX-8. And we just switch cars ones in a while.

I think MSP is a faster car out of the box than the 3 for sure, but the 3 has a much stiffer chassis, so once u start modding it, it would be better than the MSP (in handling at least)

Cool videos, the track looks interesting too. Good to see so many Proteges out on a lapping day. =)

235Km/h

Had to teach a 2006 Eclipse GT who's boss on a totally empty straight, ummm, track. :)

He wouldn't quit either. Pull far away, slow down for safety reasons, let him catch up, pull away, repeat.

I felt more comfortable going that fast in the 8 than when I drove a brand new growling 2005 Corvette (which is supposed to be 0-60 in the mid 4s, I like to add in 0-60 times to see how many people have a conniption  ) at 190Km/h. The RX8 just sticks to the road like a magnet. The Vette did not feel stable around minor bends or dips and my brother and I would get very nervous closing in on 200km/h. A guess that's what the Z06 upgrades are for...

My old 93 Probe GT I'd hit 180 and start to feel like the car was attempting to lift off the road (tho I still managed to get it to 215. Oh to be young and insane).

Are there any good tracks in Ontario you can take a stock RX8 on and cut loose? Preferably something with bends and corners as opposed to a big loop. After an encounter with a deer I am very aware of the random factors you can't anticipate on those tempting back roads which can spell disaster for you or worse yet, others. I don't mean racing per say, just a sweet dedicated road or track.

Lapping days are what you're looking for. Shannonville, Mosport, and Cayuga are close to Toronto.
