BISMARCK, ND BABY!!!...ok... so i dont own an 8 yet but i'm workin on that. i've been snoopin' around the site here since last july after i went down to my girlfriends and the salvage yard down there had a GG '03 sport with minor body damage and low water damage brought up from katrina.
before seeing/falling in love with/test driving that car in a matter of 3 seconds, my dream car was a scion tc....thank god i saw this car down there. i'm definately looking forward to babying a BB with the works as soon as i can come up with the cash. oh yea and that one was literally right next to a burnt orange 350z and i barely glanced at the z lol

I have the blizzack lm-25s mounted on the stocks rims, and they are fantastic. they are pretty expensive, (195 a corner) but are worth every penny.. any mods to your 8?

nothing too fancy. I added the K&N typhoon intake. Makes its sound pretty mean. Still have the stock exhaust, but looking at adding the borla exhaust. do you have any upgrades/mods?

ya I'm guessing your the 8 I saw on 13th the other day.....I was eating at Taco Bell there and saw a VR 8 w/o a spoiler turn on to 42nd.

It's held at the west fargo fair grounds.....It consist of racing a lap at a time around cones. usually a lap is roughly 30-90 seconds, depending on how slow/fast you are. If you stop by tintmasters on main and 42nd, they have a schedule of the events for the summer.

even if you don't know what you're doin, it's fine. everyone starts at some point and most of us just go out there to have fun.

Tire's shouldn't be a problem.....you're simply doing about 5 laps around a half mile track.

It's a really good experience. I go whether racing or not. It's fun. There are also some others across ND. And I'm sure there are some in MN.

lol ya I don't have class on Mondays so I just stayed home. I didn't even go out till later on that afternoon when it was just water on the roads. I heard it was really bad here in Fargo that morning.

I've got a question regarding any RX8's in ND....I'm just wondering if any of you have given any thought into autocrossing this summer. Our local Mazda Dealer usually sponsors a few of the events held here in Fargo. There will be many opportunities also across the state as well as at least 4 in the Red River Valley. And maybe the Alerus will let us hold an event there this year. I would like to see as many Mazda at these events, especially 8's. I think we can learn a lot by seeing how someone else drives their 8. It's also just a lot of fun.

Anyway, just post up and let me know if you plan to, thinking about, not going to, whatev....any thoughts you have on this topic. Feel free to ask any questions as well.

As for auto crossing is there anything special or any saftey gear you need to get?? i maybe wouldn't mind trying it at least once and seeing what its all about.

All helmet are supplied at the scca badlands region. They were bought for us last year courtesy of the Ramada. So if you don't have a helmet, don't let that stop you.

umm my 8 is in the garage. some of our dikes are leaking and not holding up. It's been kinda crazy around here. Some parts of Fargo have been evacuated already. Everyone has been helping like crazy. My back and arms are sore. I'm heading back to the Fargodome in a bit to help fill more sandbags. So far we've filled about 3 million sandbags and we're looking to fill another 500 thousand. fun stuff.

We're still flooding, but they've lowered our second crest to only 37 now compared to the 41-43 before. Everyone is pretty calm here now, even though the river is still way higher than normal.

You wont be the only Rx8 owner anymore :sadwavey:, I have a Nordic Green GT w/ Navi i just ordered some bronze FN01'S and i should have my suspension on before i get there. "sigh" not looking forward to the winter at all ( im from Florida) ....

Ha I'm prolly a bad example. For the most part I park mine in fear of someone else crashing into me. I do drive it here and there when the roads are clear of snow, but I leave my toyo t1r's on so my traction cuts down quite a bit if i hit a spot with snow or ice. If it starts snowing, I usually head home....lol

There was a crushed 8 here in fargo and he seemed to make it around just fine during the winter. Looked like he was on stock tires too but they could have been snow tires. I'm not sure. I wouldn't be afraid of lowering with just lowering springs. Just be careful of how and where you drive. And from what I have read, snow tires work wonders in the snow, so if you plan on driving in the winter, some would be a good investment.

As far as having a front lip, I am lowered with just the stock lip on my car and don't think i really ever rub anywhere. I am careful going up and down slants and over bumps. And if you are worried about pushing snow with it, if it's secured properly nothing should happen, unless you're trying to push through a hard snow drift, which I couldn't imagine you doing.

I got my eight in febuary the night before the one of the biggest blizzards in a few years, then 2 weeks after that there was another, and each time my car was stuck in my driveway for only about 3 days and im on stock tires so i would think you will be fine.

sad.. just 135... they can do that easily... getting past 140 is the fun part.. my first run i hit 139, i was pissed cuz i didnt get 140, second time(30mins later) i hit 143 and was happy about that, and my third try just a month ago hit 150 than came over the hill and i was gunna try for the 160 mark but the speed limit changed to a 45 and i was like shit!! small town approaching.. lol

i should take you north of belfield sometime.. just follow me and you will get 150 easily, than it just depends on how much road and traffic...

Buy a set of Blizzaks and you'll be just fine if your careful. I drove my 8 up until i deployed in febuary with no problems.

But my coolant light was going off when there was no problem, searched and found out it was common so i got a new tank and sensor under warranty.

mixed feelings on the dealership I guess. There is one guy that works on RX8's and they usually just let him handle them so that's kinda nice. I'd say they're good tho.

lol its fine, thats kinda what i figured, and i guess the "style" that i have is pretty large, they have to be kinda cheap because the main purpose of them is to put my stock tires on them, and have winters on stock rims (so 18 X 8 would be preferable).* I guess i like the black w/ chrome lip like yours, not sure if i like the solid gunmetal or not/ maybe if it had a chrome lip as well, and lastly i am looking at konig zero's which are black w/ red lip.

Nope wasn't me i was out at the base friday and saturday night during the games. there is another Titanium grey around here, don't think he's on the forum though.

And theres nothing wrong with the gophers keeping up with the sioux.

same size, and yes they are cheapys's, but i think they look sweet when you see them and they are about a pound ea less then stock. i was looking at rota torques which were a bit pricier however i really wanted the black w/ chrome lip.

devils lake autocross is this weekend and im tired of being one of two 8's that do it.. i need some other 8 comp so you should look at making your way here on sunday.. what rubber did you rap around those rims??

Just the pirellis that were on it when i bought the car, and i will acctually be in Crookston MN on sunday or else i would acctually consider that. The closest i have gotten to autocross is the montana backroads lol.

I had an 04 with zero issues all the way up until 75k and then I sold it . Maybe mine is a rare case....







quazmosis's car looks to be in great condition and I believe it is. I would think about reconsidering your first year decision. There are alot of great looking 8's that are 04's. His is a great looking car with super low miles at an affordable price, however it isn't the MT that you are looking for.

so i just have a question i read online that its not worth getting a k&n typhoon cold air intake because it will slow it down and give it less hp it doesnt make sense to me its just what i read anyone know the truth

i believe k and n is acctually worse then stock... however im pretty sure its negligable (sp?) i think they made a version 2 that is ok but ver 1 was iffy. your prob better off with stock unless you like the sound of k and n better lol.

btw i think there is another vr rx8 in dickinson :( its been parked in the mall parking lot with dealer plates the last 2 nights :(

I've always heard dont waste your time/money on intake unless it is forced and as far as exhaust it changes tone and that is about it.. unless you drop good money you wont get good power gains.. just my opinion..
ps. hughes you should stop by the bowl sunday and check out autocross.. i'll be there with mine.. it is a good time. if wanting to race another 8 around the cones crosses your mind registration closes at 10:15..

TBH you didnt pick the best car to easily improve hp lol, you got the intake and exhast which combined will possibly get you 10-15 maybe... if you have the money you could turbo it but that isnt cheap by any means.

Kaiser, yeah the bowl in bismarck.. problem is I just got exhibition driving last night again and i just got my license back about a month ago.. so I might be taking it to court so that will drain my funds i have set aside for racing.. if my phone wasnt at the bottom of the lake this might be useful (3516260) but i wont get another until this court thing pans out.. just f*cked basically..

agreed with the above.. this isnt a car you grab and mod the piss out of well unless you got a line of credit i dont.. mazdatrix sells a super that i would purchase if i could..
other than that i would suggest saving your pennies for tires.. i put a rear set on every summer and only drive 7000 miles usually.. put the money you want for moding into good maintenance habbits.. you might not be as fast as someone else but you can rod the shlt out of it and it will still be going strong 50,000 down the road.

registration closes at 10:15 so you got to be there before that ill be there at 9:00 or before but im going to help set up and then ill walk the course a couple times.. I would suggest coming early and walking it too like 9:30.. it will make driving it way easier. oh and clean all the stuff out of your car

2)Next year this time ill hopefully be trading the 8's keys in for a slightly faster, older, less miles, and a bit more expensive to maintain car.. so if you know anyone that wants a 04 rx8 or a car, it has 36k miles, new kuhmo ecsta spt tires, completly stock, oil change every 2.5-3k miles, redlined at least once each driving period(and if you are wondering why this is relevant, trade your keys in and buy a honda, you dont deserve the 8), shut down properly every time(again if you are wondering why this is relevant, turn your keys in and buy a honda) and i would like to get as close to $12k for it as possible..

so... new engine this month. cant wait to have my 8 back. this all started as a little collision on the icy snow. car then flooded, (thank you body shop) and sat. when the work is done, they call to tell me its running rough. hah. told them to take care of it, im not paying for it as i was not having issues of any kind before the accident. next day, lundes calls to tell me they will be replacing the engine under warranty (thankfully). only 85k, and ive done babied it with maintainance and flogged it when driving. oh well.

Flooding it probably fouled the plugs and coils, which may have been the final straw for your engine. Good luck with the new one.

Hey Guys, from ND, and Fargo/Moorhead area. We had a couple 40+ degree days. I decided since the roads cleared off I would get the rx8 out of storage. Of-course though, the day after I do this we got 3 inches of snow. I even double checked the weather to make sure we werent expecting any, but then again its ND.

Hmmm, haven't seen you post in here before (maybe i missed it), i will actually be in fargo come next fall. Should be a change of pace from little old dickinson, but can't say im excited about the yearly flooding that is tbe.

I'll post some picks next week. I got mine from a private seller. I had heard a lot about rotary motors so I decided to check it out and I loved it and the idea of it. Although I have to admit, it was a little hard to wrap my head around the fact that you are supposed to keep the rpms high haha. I pick it up next week on Thursday or Friday, depending on when it gets out of the bodyshop. It had a few scratches in the paint on the front bumper but other than that it's in great condition!

I looked at new speed 3's when i bought my rx8, nice cars, but rx8's are a little more fun imo. Straight line speed isnt what these are really about (as you probably know) so if thats what you were looking for you got the wrong car haha.

The case your going to loose alot of races ms3 is much more fun trust me driving the fastest production car Mazda makes is a blast

hmmmm, all i know is that hopping in my car, driving through the pass in montana is the most fun driving i have done in a very long time. I wouldnt be quick to say that the ms3 is faster in a straight line (it might be but not by much) but its brakes suck, handling sucks, and rx8 looks better (ms3 doesnt look too shaby either). However; it is more practical, better gas mileage, and i would say more reliable.

tbh im more about crusing then racing, the only time i let this car go is out where there are very few cars and fun curvy roads. Except i did have quite a bit of fun once on my way to Grand Forks North of casselton...

I know the 8 isn't the fastest, but when you live in a small town with guys who put body kits on anything from a beretta to a pos 1980's lemanse <spelling? Not a lot of people actually do anything engine wise to their car here. It's all about looks. Hell most of the teens around here buy a civic and spend money on making it look good and sound awful than making it faster, and they still try to race everyone. You'd be suprised and laugh at most of the god awful piles I've seen in this town. Besides, it's always fun to race every now and again, even if you do lose, atleast thats my opinion. I would love to do all sorts of stuff to the engine in the 8, but from the horror stories I've heard... I'd rather not have to pay for a brand new engine and start all over again.

Kaiser you don't really know what your talking about yes the rx8 is fun as fuck but it's very slow now what that other guy said makes sense this car is one of the coolest cars I've seen and I am very proud to have owned one but if I'm buying a sports car I HAVE to be able to work on the engine without blowing it up and I have to be able to go very fast as for the suspension sucking no it is amazing idk how the brakes suck but ok

What I said may have came across a bit different then what i intended, I somewhat meant that the rx8 is considered a sports car (track-wise not speed) where as the MS3 is more considered a sporty FWD hatchback, not a sports car. I literally was flip flopping between it and the rx8 when i drove to Denver to pick up a car. Torque and hp MS3 is way better then the 8 And it has been 2 years since i was looking at them so they could easily be faster then i really remember, but other then that nothing really stands out on it. (interior is really nice in it imo too actually)

Sorry if i offended you in any way because that is not what i intended at all, I hope you have more enjoyment out of the ms3, and you should post some pics up in here.

Good read Kai, thanks for posting it. I really wish Mazda could have done some mods to make the 8 touch the hp sooner before production, but I still love my car. Although, I can't help but to fear any problems with the car. Everything is so fucking expensive. Even the new tire sensor I just bought, it cost me 120$. I got a little scared because my low coolant light came on too, and yes I checked the level, but after reading I found a lot of people have the same problem, (light comes on when hitting high rpms but if you let them drop it turns off) I guess it's just a problem with the sensor itself? I'm still reading up on it though but 6 people have the same story as me and no problems so far.
