View Full Version : Photo of new STI
Deslock 11-09-2006, 09:24 PM I searched and didn't see this posted yet... my new issue of Autoweek came in the mail and there was a photo of the next STI. Online version here:

SlayerRX8 11-09-2006, 09:28 PM WTF, did they actually manage to make the wing bigger?
WTF, did they actually manage to make the wing bigger?
That's not really the new STI...
Skiptomylue 11-09-2006, 09:38 PM lol it looks weird.. theres no... angles.. its like one giant curve liek the hood connects directly to the bumper and the Roof....
terrypk1 11-09-2006, 09:39 PM this looks weird. doesn't feel like an STI anymore. like all the ones before are not so curvy. look at this one, the side view looks like an IS350
Clavius 11-09-2006, 09:50 PM Looks like a Scion Tc, Mazda 3, and a STi had a group orgy and this was the result. Not saying its completly bad but I can see the design ques. Would be interesting if Subaru went this route instead of the boxy feel they currently have. Just ditch the HUGE wing on the back.
lesper4 11-09-2006, 09:52 PM i kind of like it but yeah that wind actully looks taller then the car, although it suspeciously looks like a photoshop?
Raptor2k 11-09-2006, 09:54 PM That's not really the new STI...
What is it then? o_0
I'd hope they give the STi a sleaker look. Damn, if they just made the STi as remotely good-looking as the RX-8, I'd want one even more. Still wouldn't be able to pay for insurance at this age though...
Japan8 11-09-2006, 09:55 PM Looks more like an STI crossed with a Legacy GT.
It's a photoshop/computer generated image of what someone thinks the new STI is going to look like.
Spartan500 11-09-2006, 10:10 PM Actually it's just what they(a magazine) think it's gonna look like since there were rumors of the new imprezas being hatchbacks. The magazine only did it because they were featuring the X concept/ EVO X
Raptor2k 11-09-2006, 10:14 PM 'kay. Yay for misleading OPs -_-
silverwolf 11-09-2006, 10:34 PM no it fits sti if you ask me... shity style still included with your purchase.... and a whale tail... man i i was gonna miss that... close call.
Deslock 11-09-2006, 11:05 PM I just realized that I mistakenly linked to the photo instead of the Autoweek article:
http://www.autoweek.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20061106/FREE/61105006/1039/FREE
We've all seen and read about the next EVO, but here's what's written about the STI:
Not to be outdone, Subaru will bring out an all-new Impreza, with a conceptual version of the base Impreza making its world debut on the New York stage next spring. Though the STI shown here won’t arrive until sometime in 2008, look for the base Impreza in mid-2007, followed soon after by the Impreza WRX.
Count on the same tried- and-true formula: a turbocharged 2.5-liter flat four, making as much as 330 hp in STI guise, all-wheel drive, and razor-sharp handling. STI is expected in sedan and hatchback configurations.
The photo in the mag looks better than the one on the website (due I assume to the high compression in the JPG). It seems plausible to me that the current concept could look like this... it's more believable than any of the other older renderings I've seen. But I won't be surprised if the production car looks different either.
Deslock 11-09-2006, 11:08 PM Also, the scoop wouldn't be functional with this setup, yes?
XDEEDUBBX 11-09-2006, 11:34 PM its a hatchback!
Razz1 11-10-2006, 12:10 AM You ain't rice unless you got a whale of a tail!
VikingDJ 11-10-2006, 12:14 AM Rumor does have it that the all new STI coming out next year will be available in hatch or sedan form. It's all speculation though , and that photo means nothing. It's simply not accurate, and we don't know what it's going to look like.

The hatch part is pretty firm. We have a very vague idea of what it's going to look like from the spyshots.
Forgot to mention earlier. That "photo" is just a photoshop of Autocar's photoshop from a couple months ago.

lol i just realized they put a fmic in the picture instead of the usual tmic
Razz1 11-10-2006, 01:00 AM I do think the EVO is looking better with each generation.
I disagree with the idea that the STi should look more sleek and smooth. The STi is a beast and IMO should look the part. Of course it shouldn't be the plain ugly kind of beastly, but an aggressive, well-laid out beast with bulges and edges in the right places. I actually liked the last gen STi look the best out of all the other generations so far -- the in-your-face headlights and distinctive taillights gave it a menacing presence. I hate the way Subaru is "sleeking out" the headlights and overall body shape, and if people keep complaining about the STi being "ugly" and that it should "look better" I believe Subaru will misinterpret "look better" as being more sleek instead of being a more beautiful beast, as I see the trend going now.
nycgps 11-10-2006, 11:13 AM It looks like a Yaris Crossover STi
Oh yea, Toyota owns large parts of Fuji Heavy Industrial shares ....
Seriously, first glance I thought I saw a Yaris with STi Spoiler, but oh wait, Its not.
Rena my Rx8 11-10-2006, 01:47 PM WTF, did they actually manage to make the wing bigger?
:yelrotflm  :rollingla :hahano:
globi 11-10-2006, 02:19 PM Also, the scoop wouldn't be functional with this setup, yes?
If it was the air intake for the engine and the car making 200 mph an hour it would.

If they're going to make it look 'beastly' with bulges and sharp edges , then at least don't make it fugly, which is something that's probably hard to do. It wouldn't hurt to hire some designers, or replace their current ones.
The look of the latest STi isn't bad on the front, but could use a lot of work on the rest of the body, imo. Just lose the econobox look.
RENESIS_NEENJA 11-10-2006, 02:35 PM So.....is the Evo going to look that good or no!? Is it still just a concept!?
alfy28 11-10-2006, 03:33 PM i hope they use this STI, looks sexy
nycgps 11-10-2006, 03:56 PM altho the new STi looks like a Yaris X GD8 STi to me. but I think its still good looking
and Im sure this new chassis will be even stronger than the old one, cuz the old one is base on some 10 yr old technology. and better engine room, etc.
bsteimel 11-10-2006, 04:09 PM that front to the evo 10 is ridiculous, i don't think that big of front isnt needed anyway as the crash bar will block half the intake anyway. But its a prototype so they can get away with it.
No one in this thread knows what the new STI looks like... So why keep critiqueing something you've never seen?
gh0st 11-10-2006, 05:37 PM they are critiqueing the images posted. is there something wrong with that?

still ugly specially with that :hahano: boeing 747 wing on, i bet it can fly higher and faster.

When people are saying stuff like "it's still ugly" in refernce to a car that doesn't exist, yes.

Ike, I think some of the people here are finally playing you like a fiddle. They've found your sensitive spot perhaps. :)
I think it's cute and mean and the same time personally; this image presented in this thread anyhow.
Paul.

If it were that devious I could appreciate it. Sadly, it's simply just people commenting without reading the thread.
tjklein 11-10-2006, 07:06 PM If they end up making a Limited Edition STi like the 800 they made for 2007 it will be my next car.
Can you say Wolf in sheeps clothing?

The days of an STI, no matter what it looks like, being a sleeper are long gone. :(
mike1324a 11-11-2006, 03:07 AM That pic looks like absolute crap. There were rumors of either the sti being a hatchback or having hatch version. God i hope not, hatchbacks are awful.
Deslock 11-11-2006, 05:53 AM My bad for not calling it an image or rendering instead of a photo, but I that wasn't the point.
Personally, I think it looks better than the previous or current STI. More importantly, the hatch configuration first announced a couple years back looks like it's happening (though we probably wont get the 2-door version in the USA). I hope they can also get the weight down a bit.

globi 11-11-2006, 10:12 AM If it comes with a higher roof, larger spoilers, wider seats, bigger wheels, 3 sun roofs, 5 cats, 11 airbags, 21 cup holders and 481 electric motors I doubt the new version will be any lighter. How many cars were actually lighter than their predecessor? MR 2?

How many cars were actually lighter than their predecessor? MR 2?A while back, there were rumors that the next generation STI would be a smaller, lighter 2-door hatch. Since then, it's been speculated that we won't get the 2-door hatch version in the USA, but I'm still hoping for some weight savings.
alfy28 11-11-2006, 11:58 AM how about this one? il find some more sti concepts that are out besides the OP and this hatch one.

Robowreck 11-11-2006, 01:47 PM It looks like a Tiburon hit a CRX...I'm not feeling the concept body style very much on the STi but that Evo 10 is sssssseeeeexxxxxxyyyyyyyy
Ever Hernandez 11-15-2006, 10:27 PM Outta the 2 the Evo is the better looking car hands down. The STI is in need of a serious nose job, just look at the front end of the current Evo Mean Looking MTF! and the concept is that much better. The big airdam though, like current audi's is about presence. I think it could be fuctional on the Evo, but not so on the base lancers to better differenciate the cars, as I think it would be a 3 car lineup-base, wrx fighter, and Evo.

Word is the new Lancer Ralliart will be AWD and Turbo and be taking aim at the WRX.
