The T618Z's specs from Greddy Japan (the guys made sure what the MAX load the turbo can handle) and they said it can handle a MAX of 450hp but a safe tune would be 350-400. The turbo isn't the problem for HP specs but in general, ppl told me the turbo was decent.

I'm not sure what boost controller Alex has, but a lot of people with the E-01 have reported that they are able to hold boost through the rpm range, which means the power isn't going to fall off. If that is true, then going north of 350whp with his mods shouldn't be a problem.

interesting... 300-350whp is my goal for this car. your gonna have one kick *** ride alex. ive seen a few dynos of 13b's with t618z max out at around 375hp. not sure what injectors or other mods they have though.

as far as rating turbos by max hp, was that greddys rating for the renesis or a rotary engine? or was it just the rating on the turbo itself?

GReddy rated the turbo's max output based on a piston engine. So we probably won't see 400whp out of it, without significant other mods. I am hoping for 300-320whp, after a new exhaust and proper tuning. I'd be happy enough with those kind of numbers, as the power is pretty crazy right now, it my car's untuned state.

when blast said 450hp, I think their initial response had something to do with air density and pressure. I believe their layman term for me was an hp number and it was specific to rx7. that's all I know but I can ask for some clarity

Sorry but 350 whp out of this turbo, even with max tuning is impossible. Manuel was getting 309 whp, and that was with a beefed up fuel system and 14 psi. Past 14 psi this thing turns into a big heater. Unless you port the turbo out (which I think Mazsport is looking into) no way is 350 whp in the realm of possibility. Just can't push enough air through it. The engine can handle more air, and PTP, which is using the GT35r turbo is getting 350+ whp.

I can show you plenty of examples where on an RX a particular turbo (Greddy T88, HKS T51R, etc...) is pushing out 500 whp with all the mods, and that same turbo is pushing out 800+ whp on a Supra. Or like people said they got 400 hp from an 18G on their Eclipse, but we are struggling to get to 300 whp on our cars.

if you're in socal, just go to blast and check out my car. they'll tell you the issues personally.

at this point, the car is started up and working w/ all the things they said they'd do and more.

you think you're the only one waiting ... i've been waiting the longest.

don't remind me
I think I'll be getting the car back soon since they've been doing the initial tuning at the shop. Friends have stopped by and heard the car rev; all they said was that BOV I have is loud and the EVCII is cool looking.

I still have a big dilemma regarding the Vpro location; no place to mount it so I guess I'll shove it in the glove box. The EVCII also has no home and also the gauges.

Mike and IZZI will be the first ppl to drive my car (and i said drive) once the car completes the second tune.

I do miss my RX8 but I'm really loving my MSpeed MX5; that thing is so damn zippy and it has a turbo too just need to upgrade that bad boy a bit to get some more power.

You know I'm down for that. You can try mine as well, so we can compare the power differences.

cool ... by the time the car is out of blast, I'll have to get new coilovers and brakes, which I haven't yet bought yet. Also, get my rash on my rear rim fixed and repair front bumper damage that I received from someone while I was at work.

by the way, did you upgrade your brakes?

No. Only thing I may do is get cross drilled/slotted rotors, and braided lines. I do NEED new tires now, as I'm still on stock.

sweet, been wanting to ride in a turbo 8 for awhile. Kind of like a double edge sword, after I drive or ride one I wouldn't want to drive mine

Oem tires not sticking for worn? I doubt they be that worn, unless you have tremendous amount of miles on them. What tires are you planning to get?

OEM tires are not worn at all. They have most of their tread left. Its hard to explain unless you experience it, but they really don't do the job when you increase the torque that much. Especially if the roads are wet. I went partial throttle in 2nd this past weekend and almost lost control. Its hard driving like that.

I think mike has the dunlop OEMs. I have the potenzas RE040s and they suck at the track. Mine are almost done so I am switching over to S03s soon. And yes Jason, sorry for the delay but I'm still interested in buying either your Comps or Robin's comps. let me know. thanks!

I don't think it's the tire quality, but width. You might want to go to 275, should give you a lot more grip.

HE does have the dunlops. I swear I though he had the re040s. The comps are pretty rare now, they're selling their last few sets in tirerack from what I hear. But I doubt I be getting new rims now, I had a pretty sweet deal when I wanted these sold but not anymore, so I might be keeping them.

Yeah, I'm still on stock dunlop tires. I have so little mileage on my car (just hit 13k this weekend), I just can't justify getting rid of them before I wear out the thread a little more. I'll probably end up getting new ones, just so the car will be a little safer, and have more grip. I want the Falken Azenis 615, in 255/40/18.

I have falken azenis 615's on my mspeed miata. i like them alot, definitely felt a ride difference from the stock mx5 wheels (which were toyo proxes r28s).

for the rx8, i am going to get azenis's depending on the tread life of the azenis on the mx5.

I know Robin (PURNRG) has them, and has recommended them.

rx8 -- short video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KeWVkdAni_0

Hopefully youtube works but here's a short clip of my car being retuned w/ a manual throttle body. the laptop you see is the HKS Vpro software. For right now, he's creating a base map. I still have to break in the new engine parts, until then, I have to drive it around slowly.

there's another video i'm currently uploading, looks almost the same but longer, so I'll share this one out to everyone.

alex

ps: thinking of upgrading ignition coils with the DLI-II right after I get my car back from TWS, which is installing my new wheels, 8pot brembos, sparco's (plus rewrapping them to match interior), tein flex + edfc and fixing that lower controller ball joint recall on the rx8.
