For those of you worried about having a loud car (CA)

Found this very helpful, don't know how old it is though

http://www.pointhappy.com/cvcars/calregs.htm#standards

edit: MS cai, RB test pipe, HKS Hi-Flow

While we're on the topic, anyone know the punishment for no Cat converter? A friend has assured me that its a fix-it ticket however basedon what others have said I'm not so sure... Any documentation on this? I picked up the pipe for a steal which is the main reason I got it and wow this system seems loud...

I had an officer ask me to floor it while stopped at a light. He smiled at the CAI + MS exhaust sound.

From what I've learned... modifying anything that has to do with your vehicle's emissions is huge fine.
I don't really have solid proof but this is what they taught me at tech school.

FYI......you can be inpounded for 30 days and sent to the smog ref if you are caught in CA without a cat on ANY car made after 1976 or 77 not sure which year. I have had a few friends with Fc's and a FD that got fucked by the man. BE CAREFUL!!! So get a shitty cat and gut it, them run a "test pipe" though the middle of the cat so from the outside it looks legal.

Thanks for the info, I kind of thought it'd be impounded...

oh and welding a cat shell on a midpipe is a good idea, I think I'm going to try to pull that off this weekend, I'll post up here if I do...

check out these bulletins:

http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/d12/vc27151.htm

http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/d12/vc27150_2.htm

obviously, since they're from the dmv, i would imagine that they're pretty accurate

First link - "Amended Sec. 10, Ch. 92, Stats. 2001. Effective January 1, 2002. "

Second link - "Amended Sec. 4, Ch. 92, Stats. 2001. Effective January 1, 2002.
Amended Sec. 3, Ch. 569, Stats. 2002. Effective January 1, 2003."

The SEMA link gives references to section/chapter even iirc
