I find articles like that amusing. Why? Because scientist, theologists, etc over time take a theory, and try to make sense of it over so called evidence that is alone debatable from a presumptuousness standpoint and while mixing theories, assumptions and hypothetical guesses it gets made into an official statement that later makes it to your school book and is then thus deemed as a "fact".

This is why I don't get into political debate involving such bullshit or anything that can not be repeated nor has records of before our time or even if during our time was never recorded for thousands of centuries (global warming anyone?) to be proven as a fact and conclude it nothing more than a theory. More than half of so called facts are really theories that have been proven nothing more than just that. Yet they are littered all over your books, including big-bang, evolution of man, global warming, so forth and are deemed a "fact"

I call it nothing more than brainwashing the mass with what a panel group decides upon their assumptions to be a "fact" when it's nothing more in reality than a theoretical guess. They should really label **** like this, "The official theory of how dinosaurs were wiped out" or something along those lines.

Nice one Rev.

Not at all, I enjoy seeing the fossils in museums, and historic shows revolving around them. What I don't like is how they attempt to label something as a fact when there is nothing more than theoretical, assumptive evidence used and it gets labeled as a fact. Is why I mentioned other famous headlines using the same ground

It disgusts me how they do this because it's the same aspect as stating to someone that your theoretical idea is a fact because you've researched it enough to believe so even though it cannot be proven. I'm speaking from a generalizing view, not from a dinosaur existence perspective

So...are you also a nonbeliever in the myth of santa claus? we just try to dictate that he's not real cause insubstantial evidence claims that it's impossible?

and what about pluto?! Are you pro or anti pluto = planet? I'm just wondering for my record of Vlaze's belief's.

I agree with you.

To play the devil's advocate though (in a ridiculous sort of way) to try to teach the masses "theories" and to admit that the "smarter elite" scientists do not have the correct answers imo would lead to much more distrust for science in general. It would border on science becoming a "religion" based solely on the beliefs of some oligarchical leadership and negate much of the positives that science has accomplished for the world.

You may say well the very point of science and why it is not a religion is because science uses the whole empirical evidence thing to gather data etc. Schools do not have the time and people are not as smart though to synthesize the myriad of data that scientists collect to prove their theories. Yeah, are a bunch of high schoolers (college kids even) going to understand the math and principals behind general relativity? No, but it is accepted and applied to countless other scientific endeavors. Therefore the theories must be translated as "fact" for us simple humans to accept.

erm..that's not a valid comparison to my beef. We know it exists, we don't need proof of that. Pluto's debate revolves around it being a planet or a moon.

This is exactly why it should be stating subjects that cannot be proven as what they are, theories or beliefs, nothing more. Nothing proves this point better than the current Global Warming/Climate change fiasco. People already are distrusting of scientists; they do not know all and should stick to proper headings on their claims unless it can be proven as a fact. To allow them to continue like this and believe them is no less than giving them control ...don't drink the coolaid. I'll believe a theory when it's been proven. Until then I'll entertain it as just a theory or belief and nothing more.

Well people need to be informed that the scientific method is not being used to test/prove global warming.

ahh so rev is still stuck in the past, betcha he'd be one of the people who refused to believe the world is round....he's still stuck in flatland..

vlaze: You know everything! Santa DOES exist doesn't he?! I knew it was all lies!!!

and no...it doesn't really correlate to the argument, I just wanted to know your input...and personally, I feel it's a planet....so nothing like being older and telling my future grandkids that I was alive when pluto was a planet...

and when i tell them that my first car was a Saturn SL they'll look at me and say "What's a Saturn?" and I'll die a little each and every time
