She had an HKS and told me if I lent her my cat for 2 weeks I could pick up the exhaust for $250. At the time I was down, so said sure. Ended up not picking up the HKS but said she could still borrow the cat for smogging (she had a ref ticket) as long as it got back to me in a timely manner. I've had friends in that smog boat before and being generous, and knowing she used to be on the forum with no real negativity, I thought why not let her borrow it.

This was back around May. Communicated with texting, after smog was done I tried texting over and over. Nothing. Finally got an email response when she said she was out of town and sorry. Alright, I thought, as long as I get the cat pipe back! She said she was busy so I let her know any time in the near future would be fine. Never heard back. Finally sent her a PM on here, shot her an email, and sent her a message on facebook via "search by email" function and got a response. She said she switched cell carriers so she didn't get any of my texts and sort of insinuated it was my fault I couldn't get in touch with her. At this point, after a couple emails of offering to trade an AP dual res + injen intake (lol) she tells me the bolts the shop used to install the cat welded together. At this point I've got my fingers crossed her story is true. When I told her to look at it from my position she said I had her email and forum name and could have "clearly contacted her at any time." I've heard of improper bolts + nuts fusing together (happens with valve caps, actually) but a shop using such different grade bolts wouldn't be able to operate. No way temps on a bone stock car get that hot either, I'm using some makeshift bolts myself and have never had them fuse together.

The cat had roughly 1,000 miles on it. I knew she had hung out with others of the socal crew and figured they'd be fine to vouch. Also, she's in San Clemente, which isn't far from Irvine/OC.

Let's hope my generosity didn't get the best of me. I've done favors for others and have others do favors for me. Let's hope generosity didn't get the best of me; she's still communicating via email so this still may work out. I suppose everything she's said could be true but it sure doesn't seem likely...

i've done the same around here all the time but most of them were people i've known for atleast a couple of months n' see regularly. I mean, how many times do you have to ask for something back before you ask them to make it their top priority?

Meh, could be worse. I'm sure it will work out fine, just sort of bummed it's been such a hassle, I would have hoped a fellow forum member would have a bit more courtesy or integrity than to handle it like this. I've got faith in communities like 8club and after seeing/hearing of her being cool with other's, I thought everything would be alright. She's still talking, which is good, so hopefully I'll see some $, even if that bolt welding story is BS
