Rx8 died on me yesterday morning. 
I was on the freeway coming back from the airport when I lose rpm's and have my foot all the way down, followed by major back fires, then sudden burst of life, then cycle repeated. Car will not start anymore. :Tear:

I would, just to eliminate issues. Check the plugs and plug wire connections. Verify that you have spark at the plugs. Put a timing light on each of the plug wires and verify spark. Check the Eccentric shaft position sensor for debris and wire connection. Verify that the e shaft pulley is on and tight and the crank angle trigger plate is OK.
Check fuel pump fuse in the box under the hood and all the rest of the fuses.
