That's my general rule of thumb. Check surroundings, see if there's toilet paper, check to see if the toilet seat cover is clean, if everything checks out good then go on to the next step. Check to see if the floor is clean, if it is then I'm comfortable pulling my pants/shorts all the way down and relax. I then proceed to excrete my log.

Pulling out the motor, removing all the accessories, removing the studs (or dowels), just to get to the housing/rotors. A labor intensive process.
