There is a whole psychological component to it but its just a theory.

I agree. And it also shows how inconsistent women are. They like to feel protected, but one thing we can do to give them that feeling is to essentially be behind them...not in front of them.

Your theory coincides with the psychological theory that psychologist have come to. But, sometimes the roles switch so that the "provider" doesn't feel like they have to always maintain "life" and so they feel they are in a relationship where their partner also contributes.
