San Francisco Mechanic / advice?
San Francisco Mechanic / advice?
I own a 2004 6-spd RX-8 with 24K miles on it, and its developed some bad behavior. I trust the SF bay area mazda dealers about as far as I can throw them - judging by ratings everywhere online, I'm not alone in that point of view.
The car has developed a shake at idle that's so bad, the entire vehicle shakes (not just the stick, although it is worst there). I've already been through the threads about engine mounts and had those checked and they are fine. I've also read that some shake may be normal. So you know I'm not talking about that, interior trim pieces that are otherwise stable rattle, the rear view mirror gets blurry - we are talking A LOT of shaking here.
Their are no error codes when checking the computer (including soft codes) and the idle doesn't really drop below 800 RPMs. As soon as the engine is at about 1200 rpms, the shaking is drastically muted, and at speed it is really non existent.
Has anyone else encountered this with mechanics not being able to diagnose it? Can anyone reccommend a reputable mechanic in SF that is very familiar with RX-8s? I've already had it at one of the best shops in town, reputation wise, and they agree there is a lot of shaking, but can't ID it the cause.
Thanks
