Where are all the San Diego 8s on this forum? I see quit a few of them here in San Diego, but don't really know if any of them are on this forum.

Not sure where rock bottom is. You'd have to give me info on that.

Coronado. I drove here from Oregon without mishap. However, two weeks ago, a bad California driver finally hit me on I-5, 6th ave exit toward downtown. One entered my lane and scratched up the rear of my black RX8. No way I could avoid being hit. One scratch is down to the metal above the rear wheel moulding, and two of them are down to the primer. I haven't been able to schedule an appointment with my insurance yet because I have been assigned to a training location near the border the morning after this occured.

Once I get the check from the insurance, any ideas where I should take it? I went ahead and called Westcott Mazda in National City--they have an auto body shop that should be able to take care of it. Has anyone here done business with them before? Or, does anyone have any ideas on perhaps a better place to go?

My hometown Mazda dealer said that any touch-up wouldn't be "perfect". You can imagine my disappointment. I live in barracks by the beach, and have to clean the vehicle daily as there is no garage to park it in. So, lots of hours of work per week, and now the car won't even look perfect after I'm all done.

Aside, all the RX8 I've seen in this area are gray. Just seems to be too many of that color. I've seen one red toward Nihland, and one bue around the La Jolla University Shopping center area. Mostly, they are female drivers. Have never seen another one in black or with red leather. It has a sort of Batmobile-feel in black, not sure why it is not more popular.

Who is your insurance company? I live in Mission Valley and a few weeks ago a woman accidentally backed into my car while it was parked. She was considerate enough to leave me a note on my car so I had the repairs done at the John Hine Mazda auto body shop in Mission Valley. I have had no complaints. I read that you live in barracks. What part of the military are you in? I am in the Navy myself and work in Coronado. Hope your car gets fixed bro.

Geico. I'll look into John Hine Mazda as well. I am over at NAB Coronado, not the NAS. Thank you for the tip.

I am also at NAB Coronado. I have only seen one other RX-8 on this base; the Shinka version. Which one do you have? I have the Winning Blue.

I found three specialty/semi-specialty auto body shops, but they are all booked until the 14th, or until December (West Coast Specialities, Amato's Auto Body, Sports & Classics Auto Body). The 14th is when I have to report to my next command. If I did not have this scheduling difficulty, I no doubt would have waited.

Other shops, I drove away from. With the time constraint and 5-day repair time, I ended up going to a Mazda dealer. I was sitting in the lobby of Westcott Mazda, and calling Hine Mazda while waiting. However I could not reach their bodyshop manager by phone.

So I will see how this goes with Westcott Mazda in the Mile of Cars area. It seems like a decent-size dealership, lots of RX8 on the lot.

I am also at NAB Coronado. I have only seen one other RX-8 on this base; the Shinka version. Which one do you have? I have the Winning Blue.
I have Black, and red-leather interior trim. For some months, I was on the BUD/S compound across the street. I transfered over to the galley side less than two months ago. My car has been parked in the enclosed parking lots by open-bay berthing, but in the past I would utilize the barracks parking lots on occasion to go to the galley.

Pic: parked close by.

I have never seen the Shinka or Blue RX8 around here. Do you drive it much? I never seen it. Always thought I was lone. Oh well.

There was a mistake in the rental reservation, instead of luxury class I have an SUV rental. Chevy Tahoe. This is relevant because I always see SUV drivers who like to speed and pass me up, yet now that I have to drive one, I realize it's a slow vehicle, with the sluggish feel of a 16 passenger Ford van. I don't understand the mini-van drivers either, they really like to drive faster and pass people up.

Wow what a coincidence! I came back home on tuesday night. Actually, I don't have my car right now. But I usually park in pangea because I'm from Marshall. It should be back by January. I'll hit you up sometime then so we could meet up.
